Today we bring out some of the Remington Nitro Turkey 2-3/4" 1-1/2oz 5s and put them to the test at 40 yards through the Remington 11-87 and a Cabela's Blackmaxx .660 choke. Are the 2-3/4" shells any better than the 3.5" version? Stick around and find out!

I think it's a great pattern lots of forgiveness and a dead bird it doesn't have the hot core some of the specialty chokes do but it's a fairly large even pattern

It definitely gives you tons of leeway, but it's still just a bit too open for my liking

If we ran these through a cylinder bore choke, they would probably be terrible. The pattern would most likely be 5 feet wide with huge gaps everywhere, which wouldn't even be a pattern I'd use for rabbits at that point

Let's see it in that Avian-X crusher next. That choke seems to throw some good turkey patterns.

I thought about testing them through the Avian-X first, but I just decided to grab this choke for whatever reason. It is definitely in the plans to test that combo though

I tried the avian X crusher in an 870 youth 20g and i wasnt impressed. I patterned nitro, Lbxr and ended up switching back to my 30 year old colonial arms turkey choke.

I have some 3" 1/78 oz 1210 fps real bad medicine 4 goblers. Use the tightest choke you can find if your shooting 40 yards

We're gonna run these through some other chokes, including several that have pretty tight constrictions, so we'll see how they do

Fun fact! 20 gauge TSS payloads are 1 1/2 ounce. I’m not a Remington fan, but that pattern was ok. I’d want a bit better density to hunt with.

For a 2 3/4 thats not bad. 40 max in a pinch. But try to get them to 30. Pretty much same as i'v experienced with all cheap 2 3/4 shells. I have a single shot h and r turkey gun that's used by kids so it's sighted in and a dedicated 2 3/4 turkey gun even though it's chambered for 3 1/2 its almost to brutal to shoot. When you switch to 2 3/4 shells with less shot (and 5 shot is my pick as well) the choke is really the deciding factor and it takes some testing and buying chokes you will never use again lol.

@@matttyreeoutdoors iv found Winchester double x 2 3/4 is typically a slightly tighter pattern.. I wish Winchester would make the xr long beards in 2 3/4 Im pretty they don't though.

It’ll do the job if you’re looking for a lower recoil option for up close and personal for cheap

Nitro rem ammo,s buffered shoot great in all my shotgun,s but are hard as hell to clean the bore after shooting them.

I've kinda had the exact opposite experience from you. They have never really performed well for me, but I haven't noticed any difference in cleaning compared to any other normal shell

42g 3.0mm load. This is huge load 70mm regular shell. Good velocity. Powerful than S&B Corona 32 gr.

A 2-3/4" shell with 1.5oz of number 5s is actually a pretty common loading here in the US

By the numbers - that 1.5 ounce of 5s is about 255 pellets. 1 ounce of TSS 9s is about 360 pellets. It’s not hard to see how the 410 with TSS can put up impressive numbers/patterns compared to a 12 ga with lead.

Seems like those remmy’s like some pretty tight constriction a lot of times,wonder what .650ish would do for it,seems like you even had good results out of a .640 in a 12 guage,(don’t remember what brand)in one of your tests

I do have a Carlson's .640 and a Remington .650 we can test them through. I think we may hit a point where the constriction is too tight and blows it out, but we'll see

I think big green just needs to lighten the powder charge. Get it down to 1050-1100 and see if that keeps things from blowing out so hard. I don’t get how they’re so bad at making turkey shells.

Yeah I don't know. We'll see how the rest of the targets from this new pack do, but it's not the first time I've heard of people having inconsistent BC targets lately
