Today we bring out some of the Remington Nitro Turkey 2-3/4" 1.5oz 5s and put them to the test at 40 yards through the Remington 11-87 and a Truglo Gobble-Stopper Xtreme .665 choke. This combination gave us a pretty average pattern overall, but stick around and see how they perform!

Yeah I agree that it's just a 'so-so' pattern. But you never know until you try them. Thanks Matt!

Yep, I've been surprised before with shells performing great through a seemingly random setup

Nice report and detail. Might be interisting to make a video cutting open a few different shells that pattern well and some that don't, to observe differences hull thickness, in wad design and even pellets. Then shoot some of each and take a look at the wad distance it is from the shotgun when fired and how it looked in general. Some may have the wads stay with the shot a bit longer? You may or may not see anything but you might. Just a thought. Again good work, enjoyed! Max

Generally, almost all the wads from these shells land between 25 and 30 yards in front of me. Really the only two that fly farther are the flite control wads and the orange wads from the Herter's TSS shells. Those two always fly and land right at my 40 yard target. The flite control wad is probably flying that far because of its weight, but I couldn't tell you why the Herter's wad flies as far as it does, but they are good performing shells though

Shotgun patterns are hard to figure at least for me. My relative has a rem 1100 with the 3” steel shot barrel that he bought years ago. I have a 1187 rem. We can shoot the same shells from the same box and his pattern is way tighter than mine with the same choke tubes. I’m guessing it’s the forcing cone that is making the difference. Idk.

I have found shotguns to be kinda like rifles. You can have 2 of the same shotguns and chokes and one will shoot different than the other. I don't exactly know why this is the case when it comes to shotguns, but I've seen it more than once

I use the truglo ssx for the remington .643 constriction with the same #5 load with a 26” barrel rem v3 and it straight loads a pattern if ya can come across one try it out

I have had several people mention that choke, so I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on one if I can find something

I think Remington needs to slow em down to stop the blow out

That might help a little, but I don't know if it would completely fix this load

@@matttyreeoutdoors I don’t understand why dedicated loads such as turkey don’t incorporate full length wads and a under shot fiber card

Hi Matt i got same results in my 20ga. and 12 ga, nitro rem, doesn't work for me🦃

I've had less than impressive results with the Nitro Turkeys in both the 2-3/4" and 3.5" shells. They will take a bird, but they just haven't been a shell I would ideally want to use

Have you ever used a Wad Wizzard SRM terror choke? I would like to see if they are worth the money.

I don't have any experience with one nor have I ever actually heard of that choke to be honest with you, but I'll look into it

Hi i just bought a Mossberg 500 turkey mod, in 20, ga was wondering if its safe to shoot Federal 3rd degree TSS in the factory supplied turkey choke.

I have heard that the factory chokes on the Mossberg’s are not rated for TSS. I don’t know that for a fact, but I have heard it more than once from sources I consider reliable.

I don't have a definite answer, but I don't see why you couldn't use TSS in the factory choke. There's really only a few things that matter with chokes and shooting TSS or steel, those being constriction, metal composition, and if the shell has a wad or not. Most chokes, especially modern ones, seem to be made of the same 17-4 stainless steel, so that should not be an issue as far as the strength of the choke and the pressure the load would create when squeezing through it. I doubt the constriction is any sort of ridiculously tight number, so that wouldn't be a problem either. That just leaves the wad, which obviously isn't an issue here. Now I wouldn't run TSS through anything with no wad to protect it from contacting the barrel or choke, but that's pretty self explanatory. Let's just put it this way, I have run TSS in both newer and older chokes that are labeled "lead only" with absolutely zero issues, so I wouldn't personally be concerned with it

@@burkejones8277 I have heard a ton of different claims about all kinds of chokes, but I've run a lot of TSS through my factory turkey choke in my 835 with no issues, so it's not really a concern for me

@@matttyreeoutdoors I have a CompNChoke that isn’t specifically rated for TSS, but they said I wouldn’t have a problem with shooting it. I meant to add that he should probably call someone at Mossberg to see what they say. I know of people who have had issues shooting Hevi-Shot, but that was probably before the buffers they use today.
