Thanks for posting. You are correct, the Toyota dealerships are unable to properly diagnose our RAV4 EVs. Although I purchased a warranty, Toyota refused to properly service the vehicle and only replaced the drive shaft output seals because they were leaking...
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
I assume that this is not the fault of the Toyota dealerships, but this is their misfortune and the misfortune of the owners of cars of this model. There are very few such cars produced, most of them are out of warranty for a long time. Therefore, it is unprofitable for dealerships to have a specialist who is certified by Tesla to diagnose and repair these cars. And, as we know, Tesla is NOT focused on repairing its units/assembly, but only on replacement.

Oh wow this is pretty impressive! Thanks for such detailed information! 👍 Sacramento here as well and our RAV4 EV also started displaying that error message. Sacramento? Nice!!! I may be able to help you. When did the message start? Is it permanent? Did you check for the coolant leak?

@@diyEVguy Yes no signs of coolant leaks were present. We had no idea what to do with it. This has started back in April 2021. Toyota wasn’t much help. They’d just be clearing the error message from Tesla CU until it comes back in a day or so. Is there a way to get in touch with you locally here (916) to discuss what to do next? Beer/wine is on me. Thanks in advance.

Great data w/ the powertrain diagnostics - isolation resistance is listed there. It sounds like the same cable can be used on a regular Tesla - I wonder if the toyota diagnostic software could be used on model s as well since its likely just canbus data.

I don't know about that. I saw people use a smaller 4-pin connector for that. Vladimir knows.
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
1. Tesla Powertrain diagnostic soft for RAV4EV has been "sharpened"/modified to diagnose this particular model. 2. Ethernet I.EEE 802.3 for the Toolbox* program was used only on early Tesla models and there is a diagnostic connector of a different design. TESLA RAV4EV diagnostic program is a modified and truncated version of the Toolbox program.

Does the rav4 ev work the same way as the b250e regarding the battery heating in cold weather? Meaning the battery spends quite a lot of it's own power (I've heard 6 kw) to heat itself up during the first few km of driving, resulting in very high consumption if you do mostly short trips...? I wonder if it would be possible to disable or at least reduce the battery heating, as it seems pretty meaningless to use that much power just to heat up the battery, if you only drive 5 or 10 km then you park the car as soon as the battery is fully heated and all those extra kwh are wasted...
@diyEVguy
@diyEVguy Год назад
Sorry, I don't know. Did you search the forums like www.mybclasselectricdrive.com?
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
I don’t know how it is in b250e, but RAV4EV has a 450V/5556 W battery heater. And with small negative temperatures (-10 ... 0 C), heating to the minimum required temperature occurs quite quickly. Nominal operation voltage of HV battery is 276... 386 volt. Let me remind you that in summer, at high temperatures, part of the electricity can be spent on cooling the battery. In ŔAV4EV, HV battery temperature check and control can't be canceled/changed.

Easiest way to get a cable is to buy a cheap bmw E sys cable and resoldering pins to match a diagram.
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
Yes, you can remake Cable E-SYS ICOM for diagnosing this car, but on amazon this cable costs 2-3 times more. In addition to soldering wires to other contacts, it is necessary to remove the "extra" resistance.

Would you know if there is a Tesla diagnostics port hidden somewhere also on the Mercedes B250e?
@diyEVguy
@diyEVguy Год назад
Good question - Maybe @Vladimir Leshchenko knows
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
On b250e to check codes, parameters of the Tesla system on and all others, a standard / conventional diagnostic connector aka OBD-2 is used. It is located in front of the dashboard at the level of the driver's feet.
@altmuligmannen3086
@altmuligmannen3086 Год назад
@@altechpage Ok, thanks for your reply! Would you know if the Tesla and Mercedes diagnostics are integrated in one system that can be read with the same software, or do the Mercedes dealerships use one software for Mercedes codes and a different system for Tesla codes? Would you know of any reasonable DIY diagnostic tool (or pc software?) that is able to read codes (and do programming?) on the b250e?
@altechpage
@altechpage Год назад
@@altmuligmannen3086 As far as I know (not my experience), ISTA dealer program is needed to diagnose and check of all systems of this model. It is possible to use the multi-brand chinese Launch scanner, but it does not "see" the BMS. I don't know about other reasonable DIY diagnostic tool or software.
