Rockwell and Eaton both make planetary reduction axles here in the us. This is a different more compact design. Clearly for heavy haul. Just was interested in the manufacturer Steave may not know Either. Cheers
Hello Steve. You and your friend are really doing a fast and good job on that axle. What truck is that. I am a mechanic too and have not seen that kind of planetary drive before. Keep up the good work.
Yeah that's all I was looking at it's like they have some kind of gear reduction at the wheels. The axle shaft spins those planets by the looks of it. Never seen one either.
They run huge gearsets of crown wheel and pinion. Around 1:1 ratio. Allows for a smaller axle housing, more tooth contact and area and more geound clearance. Planetary hubs allow for reduction, more strength and no loss of space
From personal experience he likely was told and paid to fix the one thing and nothing else and when you ask them and explain the downside of not doing extra stuff. they just want it done cheap and now. So you shrug and do your job.
So many issues I see with this, that’s a planetary axle , nothing was cleaned , Improper preload on the bearing , brake pads soaked in oil and completely saturated those needs to be replaced instead of being burned off, let alone completely overheating the pads to the point it will most likely glaze the pad material. This is a hack job at best . Good work ethic , but bad execution and a disregard for safety
Too much hammering. Cheap mechanics. Many of the extractions under "hammering" should've had its own extractor. I don't have the tool! Hammer it! 😅😅😅😅😅
