i think i shall install a fold down ironing board in our bathroom so my husband can iron while he sits. Enjoyed your video! The ironing board was a brilliant way to demo your technique. :-) Our toilet bolts were a different type, so i had to use a reciprocating saw to cut off the bolt heads. Also, your video made me miss my Dad!

Thank you for posting this, i was struggling like crazy to remove some very old rusty wing nuts, followed your advise and off they came, took some time like you said but got there in the end, new seat on and looking fab !!! :o)

What if the whole bolt turns but can't get nut to loosen-seat is completely broken off. Makes each use an adventure!

Do all toilet seats have this type of bolt that screws into the top part? I have a toilet with rusted bolts and I don't know whether to try this. I am concerned that I might crack the porcelain? Should I spray some WD-40 on the bolt first? If this works, it will be a great help.

A reciprocating saw is fast and easy if you have one. Just buy the metal attachment. We applied WD40 nightly for a week! No luck! Even with two monkeys, the bolt was stuck like it was welded to survive space travel!

Any suggestion re this? The plastic nuts are impossible to turn by hand and cannot see how to get a pair of pliers on them!

Used a soldering iron on mine and melted it off. Melted a groove from top to bottom of the plastic nut wide enough so the plastic did not melt and seal the groove back up when it hardened and just cracked it off with a screw driver. Worked quickly , hardest part was seeing what I was doing, as the toilet was close to a wall lol. Good luck.

Ahhh. Not working for me as the whole shaft of the screw twizzles around right up into the top fixings, which spin around on the top of the toilet. :-(

Elle Aitch Hi assuming you have the same model toilet seat, use pliers or monkey wrench to stop top fittings turning with the bolt, try now to undo the bolt, first could spray with WD 40 leave overnight,check if video (loose toilet seat) helpsregards buskerharmony.

Elle Aitch Hi again, if you put WD40 on the wing nut area, leave overnight, then clamp say with a monkey wrench on the wing nut so to ensure no movement, next clamp say another monkey wrench on the spindle then start slowly turning the spindle anti clock wise using the clamped monkey wrench, " if you can find room." Alternatively with a small electric soldering iron burn the plastic wing nut in halve. take care Monkey wrench = 4 hands?
