Your bike is beautiful, I have a street glide next is going to be a road king, I do have the same wind deflector in my bike, it helps to enjoy the ride for sure. Safe riding✌
Thank you. The road king is a great bike, but even though I’m 5’9, I use a tall boy seat. Sitting that far back changes the way the wind hits me, so I needed to do something. Anyway, thanks for watching and ride safe.
I like the old squared off deflectors. The current style looks like they came outta the utensil drawer. Wyatt Gatling makes the old "brake broke" style deflectors.
GOT a 1981 FLH 80 they came with these, most people think they are for rider control, they are for curving the wind to run over your front and rear cylinders,my shovelhead runs hot without these on,tried it both ways on a 20 mile run, they are still on,and will remain so,if you are buffeting wind and are wearing a windshield, these have to be on
What he said. But I also get it without a windshield (I usually ride without one), Probably because I sit so far back with the tallboy seat. But it’s not fun, that’s for damn sure.
@@bernieriegger7447 also , I didn’t read all the posts but at the bottom of the thriple tree a lot of the bike have a small lip dam spoiler that directs air down into the motor area instead of up behind the windshield, some had them stock, but I’m sure there is something available to help control air flow around the bike.
It’s bad! Like I was telling someone else, I never had it before this bike so I never knew what it really was. But the deflectors work great. Thanks for watching!
You’re correct. I forgot and put them on the opposite way, so I had to redo them. The funny thing is, in the instructions, it shows them the way I put them on. But I knew that was wrong.
@rideandgrill hehe. The reason I know is I did the same thing. Had a buddy call me out in front of other riders. The real messed up part is you have to move the turn signals away from hitting them. That's a whole different nightmare. You have a very nice looking bike though.
Oh man! Haha Luckily you didn’t make a video for everyone around the world to see your screw up. 🥴😂 I got lucky and didn’t have to move the lights, it just barely clears them. Thank you for the kind words about the bike and for checking out my channel, i appreciate it.
That’s the problem, I don’t want a fairing on it. Especially now that they only make one bike without one, the road king special. 2022 was the last time the FLHR was produced. Even with a fairing though, I know some guys who still get buffeting and end up putting mid frame deflectors on.
I only use the windshield when I need to, otherwise I’m not a fan. But even without it, the buffeting is horrible. If I ran without a helmet it probably wouldn’t be an issue, but I run half and open face. Not sure about full face because I don’t have any.
@rideandgrill I run a Simpson Bandit race car helmet. It's originally designed for open-air dragsters. It actually creates down force and fits like a glove. I've had trouble in the past with poorly made half cap or open face helmets bobbing in the wind, but never my Bandit. It might not be your style, but I've never gotten on a bike that it's ever given me trouble. There are a lot of quality full face helmets that do really well in all kinds of riding positions.
I think the whole issue is personal meaning, your size and shape, how you ride, and what you wear all factor in. I may not have any issues if I wore a full face helmet but I don’t. I’m 5’9 but use a Tallboy seat that’s made for someone over 6’, so that changes my body position which I’m sure is a factor. Etc… obviously it doesn’t happen to everyone because there are plenty of people who ride the exact same model that will say I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about because I’ve never had an issue. Btw, thanks for watching.
It’s not ideal for engine temps, that’s for sure. That’s why I took them off. But the buffeting was stupid so I threw them back on (mainly for higher speeds. Around town isn’t that bad).
@@rideandgrill one of the first things I added to my bike when I bought my road king, then the next thing I did was add a temp dipstick. That’s what I realized that these guys are not to be used in warmer temperatures. Sort of like leaving soft lowers on your bike through the summer, yes, I’ve known people to leave soft lowers on through the summer, believe it or not….. And then expect longevity afterwards.😂😂😂
You've got to be kidding. I ride a stock '89 FXRS Low Rider with nothing but a backrest, saddlebags, and an aftermarket exhaust. No windshield, fairing, or deflectors. Never had a problem. Ridden it all over the country, on interstate highways. No wonder they no longer make real bikes. There are no more real riders anymore. Sad.
Comon, all todays touring bikes have fairings for a reason, I do it both ways, in bad weather fairing better, guess im not a real rider but then again I've only been riding 55+ years.
Well I guess I’m not a real rider since it’s only been 35 years. You’re stock ‘89 isn’t the same as a ‘19 road king. Which, by the way, is the only machine to give me a buffeting issue. If you’re good to go without any issues, you doing good. Enjoy your ride!
@@highvolts6620 Seems like riding without a windshield would make him even more "uncomfortable". Imagine having to put up with getting hit with a wind blast while riding a motorcycle. Seems almost unthinkable. If you don't like being out in the wind, drive a car. With the windows up.
Wow, did you miss the whole point of this. I almost never ride with a windshield, for the same reason I don’t like fairings, it makes you feel boxed in. I also think the whole reason for riding is to be out in the open. So I agree either with you there. You’ve obviously have never had an issue with wind buffeting. It seems to be a problem with newer bikes. With the windshield ON, the wind comes up and causes turbulence that knocks you around especially with a helmet on and because I sit so far back, it thumps pretty solid on the chest which gets friggin annoying on long rides. It also happens without the windshield but it’s not half as bad. Search it RU-vid and you’ll see there only a couple thousand videos about it.
