pulled the skid steer into the shop to do some routine maintenance . The big project was replacing he lower boom pins and bushings. this was no easy task because one of the pins was stuck and has to be lanced out. also while it was in the shop fixed a few oil leaks and give my thoughts on the machine.

I like the way our new Holland’s door is set up. It is a swing out door but it comes with a dummy plug attached to the harness so all you do is switch the plugs, pop the wiper washer line and pull the door off it’s pins. Literally takes a minute.

Love the video. Out of the box thinking. You might have been able to use your 20ton press to push out/in the bushings. Two saw horses, lay it on it's side. That was how dad pressed the cutlass bearing out of the boat. (cutlass bearing is a bushing that holds the propeller shaft on a boat) Freezing and heating made putting the new one in really easy. I'm gonna keep watching...and liking your video's. Great stuff. I am going to remember the techniques you showed in your videos. Totally make sense.

Nice job guys ! A little trick on those pins with a single grease hole is to grind an annulus around the pin so grease has a path to travel! Extends life tremendously! Thanks for sharing 👍

You guys really get into some heavy duty repairs. I watched the 5th wheeler get stripped down and using some ingenuity, get everything fixed. The "Man Behind the Scenes" does know a lot of welding and machine work, that stuck pin made no sense until it worked. Keep the content coming.

Watching you two wrestle these pins out made me feel a bit guilty about the tribulations with my chisel mortiser... I sheared off the roll pin where the handle engages the rack pinion. Of course, I said a few shucky darns and started the repair. First I had to walk all the way from the woodworking shop to the mechanics shop to get a ballpein hammer, punch and new pin. The two shops are separated by a doorway... and there were two 2X4’s leaning against them. By the time I walked 10ft to the door, moved the boards, rummaged around to get my tools and part.... I was too pooped to walk the 16ft back to finish.... so I went to lunch. When I came back, I was in a better frame of mind and dove headfirst into the repair. It took almost 10minutes... When I finally got the tools put back up I decided to call it a day and took Abby to the woods so she could chase squirrels. You know Mike, you should retire so those repair jobs won’t drive you crazy!

You may want to build your self a Keith Fenner of Turn Wright Machine Works, Honing Tool. Extremely Easy Build, get a 3/8" in. {0.375" in.} Dia. Rod by approx. 6-8" in. Length. At one end only using either a hack saw, or if you can gut straight with a cut off {1/16" or 1/8" in} wheel, cut a total length of 3 to 4"in. Max. As in trying to cut the rod in half. Insert sand paper of choice (Usually between 60 grit up to maybe 120 grit) go for it, insert into drill, work's very good / extremely good, for just cleaning up a bore. A must have for you, based on this first video in your shop. P.S. your allowed to put some grease in / on the bore before inserting the new bushing's. Same for the pin's. I'd be using some grease with some Moly {Molydenum disulfide, Applications with a high degree of movement will require a grease with the highest concentrations of lubricating additives like molybdenum disulfide to ensure long-lasting wear prevention.} (check out AVE channel, he works with mining equipment literally the world over, he's sent to solve problems, his day job, he HIGHLY recommends grease with some Moly ) in it.

You called that a lancing rod today, 30 years ago when I built heat exchangers and used that to cut the units up we called it an (air ark) they will cut through just about anything !! The blind man said it’s straight what are ya worried about DP lmao 😂 Hey got a Suggestion for you when you guys go to clean those pinholes out you can get some extra long quarter inch cotter pin’s and you split them and take a long piece of emery cloth and split it in half on a cotter pin and then you can put it in a drill and use it to clean the pin holes out works awesome, oh and I liked the welding trick to get the bushing out nice job guys

The reason for so many different pieces of equipment being made is each fits a different need, skid steers are good for the jobs with very limited space to work in, the job they were truly meant for. People run into issues with them by using them to do jobs they aren't meant to do.

Excellent video! I run a 2019 SVL 75 and your review of the Kubota skid steer is spot on. The only negative I have is operating the AC as well, I have to either raise the arm or hunt for it to adjust, which is not a deal breaker at all. The roll up door is a must, I wouldn't have it any other way. Kubota must have fixed the rattle with the door and it will stay open on its on without falling now. I have the ceramic tint on mine and run the ac on speed 1 sometimes 2 in the dead heat of summer (east central Alabama).

I like to make a mark on the end of the pin to show where the hole is. That way if I can't see the hole, I know which way to turn it. Of course I usually remember to mark it when the pin is half way in, but I still like to do it. Also, the 120 looks really clean.

@@DirtPerfect lol it’s crazy how metal can be changed buy heat of cold. I mean aluminum you can see it changing if for instance of we have aluminum storm doors. I am 38 years old and first learned about with pressed in ball joints. I didn’t understand it as was about 2008 on. But found out putting a ball joint in the freezer will shrink it. Then when I watched the storm doors on house have a bigger gab in between the door jam making sense. We all are born to not be smart by no means. But the key is to never stop learning something new within your means of wanting to. Just like I watch zk master tech who works for John Deere. He has shown both methods on with big tractor trans. He showed on a bearing heater that’s basically a cone that bearing sits on. Heats it up expanding it to go on shaft on trans. Drops on without hammer and cools can’t move.

id love to have one of those hollow porta power cylinder for doing bushings. For cleaning those bores i take a small pipe that will chuck up in your hand drill and put a slit through it about an half inch from the end. You can feed sand paper or emery cloth through it and clean any length of bore you might come across by just using a longer pipe. Ive also used a brake or engine hone before depending on the bore size.

As I type this you have a thousand likes, and not one single thumbs down. That is incredibly rare, and speaks a lot about you guys. Maybe you'd have had the one dislike from Mr 'I don't like captain Kleeman' if he'd come by the shop. There's just no accounting for some folk. As one of hundreds of thousands armchair operators (all down to the ConExpo RU-vid gang) it seems to me that the skid steer is an incredibly versatile piece of equipment. Andrew Camarata has every skid steer attachment known to man - well perhaps not because he often finds yet another, and come to think of it, he doesn't have a boom arm lift. There are literally dozens of options. One of Andrew's best buys was the concrete mixer - it does all the hard work of mixing, and then delivers it where it is needed. And have you seen his latest attachment, the stump digger outer? I looked at that and thought there is no way it could do the same as a mid size excavator, but it was amazingly effecting with up to 18 inch stumps. This was admittedly in a damp earth forest environment.

Why didn't you heat the lift arm to 150 to 200 degrees before inserting the cold bushing? Works better for me. I soak the bushing in a bucket of ice water so I can have the cold near the job. A expanding cylinder hone works good to clean out the hole. It gets any galling. I've always wanted to trying heating the frame then cooling the bushing with 134a to see if the bushings come out better. I'm too chicken to do that much pounding. Good job and video.

I read the first 100 comments and didn't see anything about anti-seize on the stationary side of those pins, so..... here it is buddy. Now take them back out and do it or I'll tell Wade!🤣 Seriously tho, great job. Watching you guys on that double jack made me tired.

Case equipment do not have grease fittings on lower pins on the front bucket, this is to stop grease from holding dirt.

However the the Tiger Tool costs about 2.300.00 and the nut and barrel with a draw bolt will work out. Using a torch works good but the patina is damage to the looks

A piece of threaded rod, pipe, end caps and nuts make a great bushing installer. An air impact is also a lot less work.

when installing new bushing, put the new ones in the freezer ver night, with a torch heat up the pin boss good and hot, get bushing from freezer and work fast, dont fool around, press it in, all you need is a 4 ton porrta bress with some made up hooks that take know time to make, and save them for the next job, beating on the bushing, dont help, every time you hit it it shocks it making it swell, you need a steady push.. , most times these bushing are a good brass not steel, steel on steel leave shavings and mix with grease witch make a good grinding compond, a good made machine has good brass bushings, with groves cut in them fot grease to go down, working in the bush camps i use to make a ton on scrap brass, the 18" center joint on the big korings were 18" round 1/2" thick wall and an out 3" flange that the center joint pin nckle went in, and needed replacing aound 10,000 hours, all boom pins had big brass bushings, when i work on a machine were the mfg cheaped out with steel bushings i get a machine shop to make me up brass ones,, must be made from good brass, not the soft crap, i keep many sizes of round brass stock on hand, and take a peace i need made up to the shop,, as they ether dont have the right stuff or they charge like hell for a small peace

Keep telling yourself it's not a skid steer, it's a compact track loader. 😃 This brings back memories of changing pins and bushings on scapers and dozers. Liquid nitrogen and oxy tanks became our freinds lol

They make those 8' long. Use them for melting P&H shovel pins out with. Along with the big cat loaders. You can hook up 2 bottles of oxygen!
