Love the orange calla lilies, not the white ones (they remind me of funerals). Kudos to you for working in that hot sun! Go Garden ON!

Wow, I have never seen Cala Lilies that big and with those type of leaves. They are going to be stunning when they bloom. I planted the Cala Lily bulbs in early spring and they were the smaller variety. All of them bloomed in yellow, red and mango colors and were beautiful this spring. I was surprised to get blooms my very first year. Tearing out that landscape fabric was quite a workout!

Good afternoon. After watching you remove the Landscape fabric I would say you really don't need to go to the gym. That looked like quite the workout. Congrats on getting rid of all those seedlings and such. Those Calla Lilly bulbs are not what I would call bulbs, they look like someone fed them steroids. They are huge. Never in my life time have I seen so huge Calla Lillies. I work in a garden centre and we don't have them. Love the colour of Mango and other hues mixed together. It seems like a beautiful sunset. Look gorgeous. Have a wonderful rest of your day.

I’m super excited to have them! They were over three feet tall in my parents garden!

We have calla lilies growing in pots and have to bring them into a glasshouse over winter for them to survive. Your calla lilies will be beautiful when they bloom.

Those calla lilies are gorgeous! I too have pulled up landscape fabric so I could plant - it was a pain in the bum. Cutting or tearing is definitely the way to go.

I laughed about your shorts 😂. How many blooms would you get from a new Calla Lily? It’s looking fantastic. ❤

I’ll be lucky to get a single bloom from each new calla like plant! But they will get bigger and better over the years!

I put down landscape fabric last year to kill off the weeds and grass and waiting till winter before going in to pull it up. It made me tired just watching you do it lol
@shesamadgardener
@shesamadgardener 17 дней назад
It was a hard to pull it up but better than having to weed several times over the last year and a half in my opinion, but I know some people enjoy weeding.

Next time you might consider using cardboard instead of landscape fabric. It smothers the weeds and seeds and then disintegrates. If you want to plant something before then, just push the mulch away and cut a hole in the cardboard to plant.

Agreed! I’ve tried it in some areas with good results.

I am in zone 9b low AZ desert . I am up and out at 5:30 am and then again about 5:30 to 8:30 pm to work in the garden I think I heard we hit 114 today. I bet we will be in extreme heat of 120 later in July and August.

The calla lilies will be beautiful. I've heard so many mixed opinions about landscape fabric,I used it, a few years ago, to smother a horribly invasive weed that took root at the bottom of a slope that collects water and is in full shade. I covered the fabric with pond pebbles which is helping with the drainage. The weed is not 100% gone but doesn't come through the fabric or pebbles . It pops up in planted areas but is manageable.

Like most things, I think there is a time and a place … the landscape fabric helped me achieve my goal of smothering the seeds, so I’m happy with how it turned out.

Love Calla Lilies. I have one Big one which I placed some big potted Golden Ticket Privet (Ligustrum) to give the Calla protection from the blazing afternoon Sun. In the past the heat fried the leaves. I only had one bloom this year. I cut the bloom and it has lasted for weeks.

Sounds great! Mine have held up in the heat, but do go dormant by August.

You guys have such high temperatures that it has to be so difficult to work outside..Here in Florida it is hot but not triple digits..your garden will be so gorgeous when everything is in full bloom 😊😊.. the rest of your evening 😊😊

Calla lilies look elegant in the ground or in the vase. I’m so glad you pulled up the landscape fabric. It’s awful! Rubber mulch may be worse though both lead to gardeners’ remorse.
@shesamadgardener
@shesamadgardener 17 дней назад
It worked for what I needed but definitely not a long term solution for that particular area. I’ve never used rubber mulch …. What’s bad about it?

Will calla lilies handle higher heat above 110? Are they in the shade or sun? I see them in the big box stores and they are so beautiful but I am afraid to buy them.
@shesamadgardener
@shesamadgardener 17 дней назад
They can to full sun to part shade …. The leaves will last a long time on the plant and mine hold up through our crazy temps in North Texas …. The blooms are usually done by the time the crazy temps hit.

It wasn’t too bad in the evening but definitely hot … maybe because I’ve lived here all of my life and I’m used to it … but it’s still dangerous and you should be super careful!
