Watch Collision 3 LIVE only at: app.gloryfightfightfight.com/... A battle of all timers: Remy Bonjasky takes on Alistair Overeem in this 2009 K1 throwback. 2009.03.28 #Alistair #Overeem
@@user-ke3ms5gg1t uhhhh no its just that I was a young teen back when I watched K-1. Last I checked kickboxing hasn’t been any more high profile these days. It’s more about mma
Man Overeem got screwed.. One knock down determines the fight.. Overeem won 1 and 2 rounds and I got Remy winning the 3rd round just because of the knockdown.. I dont know what theses judges were watching..
I had a K-1 PS2 video game from 2000ish. Loved playing as Remy. Cro-Cop, Mark Hunt, Sefo, Aerts and a few others the new generation would know were on it. People tend to over romanticize the past, but man was that a fun era to be a fan of combat sports.
Bro! I just had that K-1 game! I think it was Grand Prix. I love the fluidity of it and prefer the stand up game rather than mma ground game. That game is fast paced and the knockouts are thrilling!
@@mider-spanman5577 K1 was notoriously corrupt and this was after Overeem knocked out Badr. K1 didn't want an MMA fighter, who was saying kickboxing was easy compared to MMA in press conferences, coming into their promotion and beating their biggest stars. They preferred it when MMA fighters came in and were dummied, thus validating the striking superiority of their sport. It is theorized that they even banned double collar tie knees because of Alistair.
@@timdonald542 yup. They banned double clinch knees because Muay Thai fighters like Buakaw were very dominant with it. They prefer their homegrown talents, and here comes Muay Thai fighters and a roided out guy who claimed kickboxing is easier than MMA dominating the scene with super knees.
you have to understand the Japanese have a complete different scoring system. 10-10 is like the usual norm, you really have to dominate a round to get a 10-9 and KD count heavy because they are 10-8, so Remy could have lost a round and drew a round and still won.. even if he lost both rounds 1 & 2 worst case scenario would have been a draw, so Remy based on the scoring rules could have never lost anyways
It's just if it's only 3 rounds a knockdown is very determining. U can basically win most of the fight but then it's 1 round 10-8 and the others 9-10 so that would be a draw then. But I agree weak performance of Bonjasky aside the kd.
Very suspicious of Remy Bonjasky so many times. Favoritism. No wonder half of the K-1 rosters left the company and didn't say a word that would hurt the business. K-1 is out of business forever.
But what rules then? It's just if it's only 3 rounds a knockdown is very determining. U can basically win most of the fight but then it's 1 round 10-8 and the others 9-10 so that would be a draw then.
I prefer Bonjasky because I remember some of his legendary performances in the 90s and early 2000s but no way he won. He is outclassed here on power, pace, balance etc in all rounds except the last one.
He returned the Oscar that Alistair gave to him in the pre fight press conference, saying that Remy is a good actor. So actually Alistair started the beef with the acting/being fake during the K-1 WGP 2008 FInal match with Badr Hari and Remy answered back by giving it back, when he "won" the fight :)
@@Mike-cb1pm About Remy milking it in the final vs Hari ? Maybe, maybe not. Still, he should have been DQed immediatelly and not even letting the narrative get to whether Remy was seriously injured or not.
@@shaadydog1 Technically yes, but the rules are stupid & confusing. Like when 1 fighter makes a knockdown/8count it's always like makes the round 10-8, even if he would have lost the round for the most part, like on points/hits. I agree that if the other guy still won the round, it should be just 10-9, more fair result. but now they never seem to look at that, and it's automatically a 2point lead which isn't very fair.
alistar had won the fight by points, but the kd had a bigger impact. fighting a guy like overeem whos completely overjuiced and has an excellent technique is insane in itself. i bet he overweighted remy at the fight, so remys plan was to stay out of trouble and catch him, he would ve never ever won a pound for pound fight with overeem, nobody would. and he executed it very well and therefore won the fight, absolutely legit.
Eerlijk gezegd!
Good old Japan and its rigged judging. Remy was a favorite of the organization but even then I remember they were trying to force him to get the knockout to win against Musashi in one of the years grand finals. Masato was another one that had to be practically put on a stretcher to end the fight.
Dominating? ahhaha wich fight you were looking at? If you call " dominated " the fight punching back of the head, holding the legs and kicking in the nuts, throwing to the floor, pushing head and hurting the opponent´s neck against the 3rd rope, yeah, it´s " dominanting the dirty game and ignoring all the rules ", that is not fighting here, dude. That is a bar fight. If you know the rules, Remy dominated BY THE RULES, he is called " Gentleman " as a part of his nickname for something. He always fought by the rules and never did anything wrong. He waited for the right moment to hit when his contender is gassed out. And that was what happened, Remy knew he had a glass chin and made the difference with the K.O. Nothing of these previous dirty demonstrations of " power " were useful. He also fought with brains.
Bonja was very intimitated and scared of Reem. They introduced the fight as Superfight they forgot to tell the fighters that. No tactics no excitment no skills nothing its waste of time this.
Overeem a Legend and with this big ounce gloves he will handle more power shots and i think overeem have the biggest chance to win from Rico if you see where overeem Gets damaged is from Mma Kickboxing he is a different breed !!!
Another gift decision for Remy. He must've been banging someone high up. I remember in his retirement fight he fought Mirko Crocop, and Mirko dominated the entire fight, only to lose a majority decision. And honestly, even Fancois Both,a, the "White Buffalo, who was a B level ro boxer and a complete novice to kickboxing, and Botha actually boxed Remy's ears off
Francis Nganou Knocked the soul out of "Allistair in first round under two minutes, So anyone curiousing the Francis vs Remy match up can be sure that Francis Nganou can do the same to Remy.
I don't get the MMA crybabies saying Overoid got robbed. Two rounds were way too close.. I'd say 10-10 each. Last round was a knockdown 10-8. How hard is that to score?
I noticed these foreign commentators are either against Overeem, or for him. I guess they would make lousy judges if they can't leave their personal views at home.
@@valeriobsc2582 in the Grand prix final Badr kicked Remy while he was on the ground. Remy had no damage but faked it so he doesnt had to continue the fight. He acted like he was hurt, so Badr was disqualified. So everyone called Remy an Actor thats why
@@Oussama-nf2zi Actually Badr did damage Remy's eye. He had problems with it the next year in 2009 and after that he retired on medical advice from his doctor after he did na eye surgery. So most likely it did damage to him or maybe its cumulative damage from all his fights, who knows.
