As many have mentioned, this song is about Ren's best friend Joe. Ren was about 2 minutes too late running to the bridge where Joe jumped. I know a lot of people say this is from Joe's perspective, but I also believe the lyrics are Ren trying to live after Joe passed. Ren couldn't escape from the trauma of losing his best friend.
@@sketchtherapy1218idk man … I have watched this quite a few times And it just hit me hard today … Think of it as Johnny Cash covering Hurt The lyrics can hit someone old like me Riches turn to rust Sad eyes blind me I’m just not the same person I was and I hate it. I am glad there are people like these two out there … making me think ❤️🙏
@@billmonb4579 I had to hear it a few times before it dawned on me too. This is a song by a mourner to the mourning & those who seek to understand mourning about what it's like to mourn. When a piece of you dies you forget how to be yourself. It’s a song about when a loved one takes their life what is a brother without a sibling? a father without a son? A husband without a wife? Can they be themselves as theyre haunted in mourning for the dearly departed? when a piece of you dies you forget how to be you. Ren's friend Joe was like a brother to him and when Joe jumped off that bridge Ren felt like a piece of him died.
You need to react to Chinchillas live Hungertv version of FINGERS. It will show you why Ren calls her his musical sister. He said there brain works the same musically. Also check out all they do together. The live versions, Chalk outlines, sexual healing busking on street. They are magical together. But hungertv live version of fingers. It’s like something you never seen before. She is elite vocalist. Move it up to the top. With chalk outlines next

Not afraid to admit that as a 45 yr old guy this song breaks my soul every single time i hear it. They are perfect together and the lyrics and the live performance... It's just too much perfection.
It's about Ren's response and feelings towards his best friend committing suicide by jumping off a bridge. You'll hear more about Joe in several of Ren's other songs, including 'Freckled Angels', 'Suicide' and 'For Joe'. The last is live and is best listened to after hearing 'Suicide'. Ren split the proceeds from his only album to date, between Joe's parents and the lifeboat station that searched for Joe's body. Ren lived not far from the bridge and was running as fast as he could to get there but arrived just a couple of minutes too late...
There's a restaurant on Anglesey Island in Wales owned and operated by a friend. Named after Ren's album, and in honor of Joe, Freckled Angel. I'm not sure if any of the proceeds went towards that, but if you're ever in northwestern Wales, I hear they have great reviews.
These two together are pure magic...Chalk Outlines LIVE ( this version ) and them busking on the streets doing " One Love/Drunk in Love " just brilliant . Chinchilla " Fingers" Live for Hunger TV is truly a must. Lovely reaction to this one.
‘Chalk outlines’ is another great duet by them and Chinchillas ‘Fingers’ live is stunning. RENs more recent song ‘Suicide’ also refers to the death of his friend but bring a box of tissues for that one
To hear Ren really sing, there's a couple of songs Ren Busking in Brighton. The Big Push - Wade in the water / Nina simone / Trouble so hard. and Ren & Sam Tompkins - Earned it /Mans World / Falling 😊
Love these two, co-written by Ren & Chinchilla as well as performed ❤ thanks for your reaction, definitely check out some more Chinchilla like Ren I’ve yet to find one I don’t love 💕 powerhouse 😊
The harmonies that sound so hauntingly beautiful are so awesome! Listen to the studio version.. they are mimicking the strings you can hear in the instrumental. So great these two!
Those pair really do vibe well together, their voices match beautifully! This is one of my favourite of their collaborations, just sublime! Chinchilla as a solo artist is just amazing, anything she’s done is worth a listen! Enjoyed your reaction/analysis, very good! 🌹
@@KoalityReactions she did a joint analysis and reaction to one of her own songs with The Fairy voice mother a few weeks ago, Lolli and Chinchilla were very interesting to watch commenting together, it was a lot of fun for both of them!
Chalk Outlines by Ren X Chinchilla as stated .. ya definitely should check out Chinchilla - Fingers (live) .. another must watch .. Chinchilla is so powerful and expressive
Ren is the Original "Bardcore Genre Bender" The Master Bard himself ( Shakespeare ) would have understood exactly where Ren was coming from. Ren isn't just a songwriter but rather a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it modern and relatable to all generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. While most good Performers can envoke some emotions in their audience, Ren is an Emotion Master who has control of all of them, From the Feel Good Vibes of Bongo Bong, to the Rebellion of Illist Of Our Time, to the Tragedy of Jenny and Screech, to the Mind Bending Rap Flow of Losing It, and the Internal Psych War of Hi Ren, Ren has it All! The Ren Rabbit Hole is Deep and Powerful!
This song written by Ren, is really about his childhood friend Joe Hughes who gave up the fight, late at night when he was aged 19. Joe was in distress and calling someone telling them to say goodbye to his friends. Ren heard and as he lived close to the bridge Joe was on, ran as fast as he could, but he got there a few minutes too late and Joe was gone. He has written this song from Joe's perspective.
Altho you can (I do) see it as both how Joe AND Ren felt, before and after. Very sad but very beautiful also. Beautiful in its honesty as well as musically.
I so enjoy your reactions, sometimes I see your openness, willing to let yourself be engulfed in the story. It’s a beautiful watch. I know you will have so many people putting forward great songs for you to react to. I unfortunately will add to this growing list! Ren is an amazing writer and performer, one of his songs reaches so deep, it is ‘crutch’ one of his very early songs. I will await from a distance and have my fingers and toes crossed that you react. PS. You have a lovely comic side, you remind me a little of Jim Carrey at times(that’s a compliment)
I red the comment regarding this song being about Ren's reaction to his friend Joe's suicide by jumping off a bridge one night. But, I didn't see a note informing you that they performed the song on the bridge his friend had jumped from, hence, the overwhelming emotion.
Oh, I had such nice shills listening to them both... I think Chinchilla's stronger voice acts like an emotional amplifier. Emotions from Ren flowing through Chinchilla are immediately amplified and delivered (to us)... and this is excellent! Thanks for this one, Jenna! Again: great to hear how you feel about it (especially about the lyrics and art) PS: enjoy your coffee time 😜 !
They are amazing. Check out money game 3. It surprised me at how inventive it was and the amazing camera work and audio design. (And of course it hits on the feels too being a Ren song)
"I don't feel safe in my bed voices in my head talking to the dead. Fear and Sin follow me over the valleys and hills below; back home. It suffocates me...Wish I could get out of this tomb (Joe's own mind)" Ren wrote this from Joe's perspective in my opinion... You get to the end of the song and as Ren does so often he then breaks the 4th wall and says, "When HE gave up the fight, the decision he made stayed with me for the rest of my life. I miss you so." This was yet another song influenced by his best friend Joe who took his own life... Others include; Freckled Angels, Su!c!de, For Joe (which he song live for Joe's Family this year). "I forgot how to be me". The song Freckled Angel talks about how happy and cheerful Joe was...
While i completely understand that perspective, I feel it's about the agony of loss from Ren's point of view. "talking to the dead", the 'haunting' moans, "Kingdom (His Life) turned to dust", "Watched all my riches (friendships) rust" [Ren elaborated on this in For Joe/Su!c!de with the line "distance was my plaster cast"], The tomb I believe was Ren's depression, and rather, the halls were his mind, bruises were his trauma and emotional health, and the "bodies (!) in the floor" were his memories he's tried to suppress. I have no doubt Ren is capable of the genius required to apply it from both perspectives intentionally, but I feel his main focus when originally writing it was autobiographical.
When you said you want to hear what he has to say, it reminded me of my time working in the USA. American Girl: Oh my. Your accent! Me: I'll read the dictionary forwards and backwards if you like. American Girl: Take my digits. Ah, good times.
If this was your first viewing, now that you understand the end, keeping that in mind, I encourage you to rewatch it and decrypt the rest of the song as it relates.
I felt I did decrypt it, for how I saw it anyway. I think people in the comments are split on how they see it... from Joe's perspective or from Ren's, also that he's capable of writing it from both sides, simultaneously!
