He is already sick at this point. In his chapter he describes the hell he went through to last through a whole recording session because he wanted to collapse in pain and illness. At this point he had no idea what was wrong with him, just that he was sick and was trying to hide it from Sony so he didn't lose his record deal. He still lost it and went into a dark pit from this point through the next 13 yrs.

I hate the thought of him suffering as much as he did. He was so young. He sure has an amazing attitude and look on life considering he could have stayed angry and bitter about the doctors missing the diagnosis. I think he's a good mentor for those going through a difficult time. Nothing wrong with being angry or frustrated, just don't stay there. What we go through in life could be used to help others.

The big difference to me is the sweet lightness of his voice. But all the style and runs and guitar skills are there. I find it bittersweet because we know what is ahead for him. I much prefer his mature voice and the power, depth, and soul that his troubles left with him. There is a very short video called 4 Elements that i really like and then Runaway you can hear the illness coming in.. Ren is releasing a live video of Bittersweet Symphony on Monday Webby is releasing a video with Ren featured on Tues night 10pmE.

Seeing these earlier recordings from Ren, one can maybe see why he was so devastated when he wasn't able to create and perform at the pace and level required to keep up with his label signing from Sony. The passion and drive were evident. He probably felt crippled and helpless, to say the least. What strength he must have had to persevere. Mad respect.

It would be devastating to finally achieve the dream of a record contract only to have it slip away because of your own inability to keep up your end of it because of health with no real diagnosis of why at the time.

Wow! You are one of the few Ren reactors (that I know of that even includes this era -- Trick the Fox). But, what I really want to say is YES! (to the plan of doing Big Push's Nina Simone Mashup (the one that popped up at the end!)). Great Job on this reaction! Appreciate it! You've already hit my (must have favorites in Order: Hi Ren, Tales of Jenny and Screech, Chalk Outlines, and then I Shot the Sheriff (with the red suspenders 🙂) So, for that alone, You got my subscription. I've even checked out some of Your Work (jamming sessions and covers) You are much better than most other reactors with original content. (Not to disrespect my other favorite Ren reactors 🙂) Hope you are successful in everything you do and Thanks for doing Ren!

I've been following Ken for roughly four years when he first fell upon The Warning, another of my current favorite artists. I've also watched him appreciate other music performers that I'm less familiar with, and Ken is one of the reactors hat I can trust to provide some tidbits of information (peppered with some dad jokes- hehe). Glad he has finally given Ren a try, and why some like yourself, have found his channel. Cheers!

Left handed bass player. I'm a southpaw, and bass is probably my favorite instrument as I key in the low tones often on initial listens. I suppose that at 13, I became an instant fan of Iron Maiden when "Killers" was my first album purchase with money I earned in no small part to Steve Harris. Ren's vocal delivery is special, and you can hear the foundation of what he has built upon in tracks such as this. Strong composition and songwriting skill is evident as well.

We love all Ren songs here! He was remarkably talented even back then, which is likely why Sony picked him up. It does not quite have the depth of later Ren songs, but, hey, he was just a kid. Maybe 19 at the time! He hadn’t yet gone through years of illness that define his oeuvre now.

It's a great pop song and helps underline how versatile Ren is, he can write and produce a good catchy pop song, as well as more serious song writing and some very serious rapping. I'm so glad you reacted to this as it highlights Ren's talent before his illness and maybe shows what direction he would have gone in if he'd stayed healthy.

This is great! A lot of the Renegades will appreciate the fact that you are going to Ren’s back catalog. You can easily see why Sony was so interested in him! I know it was heartbreaking to be so close to realizing his dreams only to have his illness strip it all away. But his determination, strength of spirit, and a few angels along the way, has turned Ren into to such a dynamic artist! (If interested, Ren shared his story in “chapters” that you can find on his RenMakesStuff YT page) Ren absolutely adores Nina Simone 💕 He brings so much soul when he covers her material.

Enjoyed that, thank you. I like the notes you add on screen. Yes, boi is the Welsh spelling of boy, which is used in slang more commonly than bachgen, and not necessarily just young men. I'd say something like 'c'mon bois' to my friends to cajole them or hurry them up. 'Bois bach' is an expression of exasperation rather than the direct translation of 'little boys'. Boi may have another meaning in other communities though!

I love seeing Baby Ren. I always wonder what sort of artist he would have been of he hadn't been forged in such fire. Our Ren is such a phoenix, but it was for such tough reasons. Runaway by Trick the Fox is great too. Such a radio-ready song that should have been a hit.

I'm not sure about the timeline, but this is definitely around the time he started to feel the effects of the Lime disease, and also about the time his first true love left him to go to Australia her name is Bibi. I'm sure this tune is dedicated to her. She features in one of the early tracks fimed in Brighton Town, I forget the title of the track, but it's the one where they start drawing hearts on the sidewalk/pavement and get members of the public to talk and share thoughts on love and sharing, and draw their own hearts on the deck. Someone will no doubt no tell me what that track was called. And awesome it is to.!! Well done for getting right back to the start of Ren back catalogue, there's some real gems hidden back here.!!! No guy in his late teens and early twenties wants to be called a baby - alas that is how the renegades refer to him. He looks and sounds cherubic! Clearly talented and charismatic early on. But I listen least to the earlier Ren, as I prefer the grit and edge that developed over time. His talents and persona and performances have evolved so much, especially in recent years as he's regained more of his health.
