Hey guys in this week video we are working on my own car a Renault Megane mk3 with a battery charging fault warning on the dash.
The other night when i was driving the battery charging fault warning came on and after about 5 miles i started having issues with the power steering , abs , and also other faults started appearing pretty much telling me that i was losing communication with modules due to the lower battery voltage, I was lucky to be able to pull into the drive only just...
Now i drive this Renault Megane regularly and i have noticed noises from the alternator and the headlights flickering , it was in the back of my mind that this alternator was going to fail sooner or later , apologies about not getting any diagnosis tests done which i know quite a lot of you enjoy but the battery was on charge enabling me to do any tests and i was pretty confident that the alternator was the culprit here as i have been watching it closely, and also its a commercial vehicle that i try to keep it on the road as much as i can so i had to get on with it apologies again...
Anyway i hope you guys get something out of it, i was asked about an alternator replacement in this Megane the other day and funny enough few weeks later this happens i think the viewer JINX IT only joking 😂😂😂👍
The new alternator cost me £206.

Just got this battery charging error today, so i went up online and ended here. Big thanks for this video mate, it will be very helpful tomorrow. But having to dismount whole f@#$% front of my car to fix this... it's just plainly wrong. I miss the cars from the '90. Cheers!

Nice one mate! When you mentioned alternator first thing I thought was clutch pulley, looks like I was right. To change pulley would cost you about £30 on ebay, but obviously you were tight with time schedule. Keep up good work! 👍

Thanks mate ... yeah unfortunately with the time constraint I had to just put my head down and get it done , I do have the alternator clutch tool and everything but I’m just happy that is done and I didn’t need to be off work for too long 👍👍👍 cheers mate I will 🙌🍻

Again perfect job done. I changed 3 mechanics everybody when the see Renault Megane Mk3 they given up. Probably the most bizarre car for the mechanics 😉😉😉.

Hey thanks. This video helped a ton! My 2015 kangoo maxi 1.5 had this issue. One i went to work came home parked. Next morning started the car but battery light was on and bcuz i needed to go to work i forced the car to go work. On the way home abt 100metres from home the power steering stopped work, abs warning on with various warning lights on the dash came on. I was suspect few weeks ago too as my headlight seemed week. I didnt do any test thinking it was the batter being it is over 3yrs old and car is a daily workhorse. Switched in the new 750cca batt the low batt still was there.. another thing i had occured was under hard braking the car nearly shut off. All the symptoms u mentioned were literally identical to wat i experienced. So looking to replace the alternator as it must be the culprit. Ill be sure to check my negative and positive wires and negative to chassis wires as well. You helped me narrowed the culprit in a way so thank u!

Thanks for the video! Very easy to follow. I wonder if it would be possible to remove the top engine mount and jack up the engine a bit (ie: move it up and back) to get some extra space, instead of removing the bumper, etc... Would that work? It seems that you need to disassemble half the car to replace the alternator! :)

Some job there mate....reminded me of a V6 passat, had to put it into "service position" just to get the altenator bolts out otherwise they would back out into the rad....lol

It’s crazy how some engine bays are designed , this modern cars have so much stuff around the engine to make it green that don’t leave any space for us ... it was fun tho 🤣🤣🤣👍🍻

Hello sir! Thank you for the awesome video,have learned so much from you. I hvae the same car grand tour model and th same error battery charging fault,i change the new battery and the error was Disappeared for two days and start again. I checked voltage when car is running it shows 15.40 😢 overcharging,today the mechanic changed the alternator and guess what 😢 again the same error battery charging fault,i really don't know what to do. The mechanic said that i can drive 2-3 days and if is the same they will try to change battery again but i don't think that will solve the problem,do you know maybe what else could be? thank you in advance and thanks for the nice tutorial video!

Thx for this video. Same car and same fault. When replaced, does the car need to be programed after install, or is it just what you showed in the end, inside the car?

Big job for just removal of alternator. You don't need to follow official procedure for removing bumper, front end etc.. you can just remove timing belt mount and loosen lover mount and slightly move engine back to the firewall. Can be removed in 20 min.

Yes. Done it this way. Fully remove tb mount and loose lower dogbone mount. Support engine with trolley jack on oil pan and slightly move it back with jack. Alternator is going out with pulley up. ;) btw 437.000km is great milage for this car.

I can confirm that it is possible to remove the alternator without removing the front bumper. I removed first the right and bottom engine monts. Then the engine is easy to move back to make room for removing the alternator. Anyway the procedure took about 2 hours as I did not use electric or pneumatic tools. Thank you Igor and Mr T. for your comments! Without them I wouldn't believe that I can dot it by myself :) .

That's a great video, I have the same model as you complete with the drl's do I have to do remove the front bumper to change the drl's? If so, how is the drl fixed ie, are there screws to remove?

Bought a 2010 1.9 dci 130 megane,had the charging system failure fault and burning smoke from this side of the car where the alternator is,i hope it's the regulator though

By the way, any dtc stored in upc or uch ecu related to alternator? What kind of signal the alternator receives from ecu to modulate charge? Great job, thanks!!

So my alternator died, I bought a new one, not probably original, and it has the same error, but the voltage on the battery is good, 14V, will an original regulator, that is cheaper, than the whole alternator, will fix the error?

I doubt it it will fix the issue, as you mentioned the alternator is operating properly putting out 14v, I would check the connector by the battery that monitors the voltage if I can remember correctly it’s a 2 wire plug

@@CarsExposed thank you for replying, I tried two alternators, one from Qashqai same engine, then I bought from a car electrician, a new one. Both give the same error, but they're charging correctly the battery showing 14v. I red on some forum, that the regulator is the problem, if not to buy the original alternator valeo for Renault. I'll try your idea, sounds very easy, thank you very much for your time!

I’ve just had this come up after pulling into my car park - there was a loud snapping noise and then this instantly came up. Car still running and no problem with power steering or abs, any ideas what it might be?

Well my recommendation is not to drive the car just in case the battery isn't that brilliant and you run out of juice which can be frustrating recovering the vehicle , now when my alternator failed luckily it was during the day and my driver at the time managed to drive aprox 60 miles to get home without any issues obviously with all the lights off , radio off etc

Hi mate dunno if you can help hora renault Megan 2010 1.5 dCi problem is when I put the key card in and press start with either the brake or clutch it just clicks and won't turn over, got a decent battery on it to ahhhh

I would check the basics first , like battery terminal are clean and firm in place , then check the engine ground strap generally attached to the gearbox for some voltage drop and do the same thing for the 12v cable to the starter motor itself , and finally check the signal wire with a test light make sure it’s firm in place and no corrosion, you are most likely to find the issue performing a voltage drop test if still only clicking after that unfortunately it will be the starter motor 👍

@@CarsExposed thanks so much for replying quick I appreciate it, I will do all them things mentioned tomorrow, as the actual starter motor doesn't click its just a relay in the glove box that does, but I was thinking of checking the power to the starter are they easy to get to on theses engine as I've not work on one yet. I did check fuses and there was a 25 amp fuse 19 in the engine bay blown but replaced that and still nothing😩. Do you no we're I could get a wiring diagram from thanks again 👍

No,if the a/c is not working the fan don't work and the temperature increase But if the a/c is working the fan work and the temperature drop to 180

Ok so in that case I guess the problem it’s your cooling fan system , the good thing is you know your cooling fan works but you need to test the electrical system meaning fuse , relay and wiring damage 👍👍👍

Thanks, please what is the normal °c for the temperature gauge for mini Cooper s On my is 0.....140......200 and on the 140 there is bored line that signify like is the center for normal place for the temperature but the gauge is going beyond that point(all I want to know is,where is the normal place the temperature gauge need to be)thanks

@@omoyorubaworkshop the temperature needle gauge seats at the bold line in the middle , if you are monitoring the car with a scan tool which is best , the fan comes on at 105°C
