Patrick Le Quement is such a gentleman, no wonder Renault once prospered under his management, well thought out of the twingo and made it a success despite the people calling it ugly
The Renault Scenic was a great family car, could seat 5 reasonably, had a decent bootspace, and with the rear seats removed, had a fair amount of load capacity, ideal for doing some of the house move, take rubbish to the tip, bring back timber and other things from the DIY stores or flat pack furniture from IKEA, get that new washing machine or flat screen TV home that you bought from the electrical store and many other things too.
The Initiale looks stunning, it could easily pass for a 2006 prototype! And the F1 V10 powering it is just pure madness, even with all the tweaks for making it suitable for every day! The Fiftie could also be produced today, especially as an electric car!
I just started working on getting a driver's license, and my dad got me the facelifted version of this car as my first car. It's old now, but it works just fine.
I've owned a Scenic. I was renovating the house so i needed something with a big trunk that could tow the trailer i had back then. The Scenic did the job perfectly. But i have to be honest, after a short life as a builders van the Scenic was pretty much done. When the renovation was finished, i sold it to the garage where i bought a newer car for myself. I gues it probably got scrapped from there.
Blimey I remember watching this live! Aside from a couple of slightly out-there Japanese designs the Scénic was really the first of its kind. Maybe later bettered by the Zafira, at least in terms of seat count. I had a Megané of that era a couple of years after this, comfy and nice to drive but the reliability was very poor. Woeful in fact.
I love the way the Initiale became the Vel Satis, effectively. A really beautiful car, along with the Avantime. What a pity they never caught on in the UK, they're so cheap these days
Not at all. LeQuement is a very humble and approachable person. Just watch the channel "Big Car". He has a whole hour interview over there. I've always admired him and praise his designs. Some are a bit controversial like the Avantime and VelSatis but then again...people don't have to have the same tastes.
