its even more stupid when you realize in MOST games board or otherwise your goal is to the kill the devil or its demons NOT EMBRACE THEM though honestly dnd is like the onlything where i think thats a actual thing you can do normally back fires but you do get epic warlock powers. unrelated if you guys like pathfinder id recoomend pathfinder kingmaker a isometric rpg that was made by the pathfinder creators thats really good even uses the same pathfinder dice mechanicus and statics and spells and classes and is CANON of course sense its pathfinder the only canon is a new kingdom exists and a previously existing one is gone

So I DO have good news for all of you, the people who made the movie were doing so as a parody and knew full well Jack Chick would agree with it anyways. It's just about all tongue in cheek, and the sexual tension was ALSO intentional. It's way funnier when you know about this and don't worry about people being batshit insane.

The reason that D&D was deemed satanic was because a teenager had disappeared and the detective had found the game manual and didn't understand it but never said that it was satanic only that it could be part of the cause cue parents checking it out and finding demons in it and being labeled as satanic.

So... The word allah, which literally translates to "the god" (al-ilah, so the same root as eloh(im) actually), clearly precedes Islam (muhammad's dad's name being Abdullah should suffice as an example) and has been used to refer to many deities in polytheistic Arabia, among the oldest of which was an actual moon god. There are a few other links that are much more tenuous (the star and crescent imagery, for example, is something the Ottomans adopted and popularized almost a thousand years after Islam first emerged and has Byzantine roots); and from a secular standpoint it's an interesting bit of trivia that doesn't actually mean anything. This did not, of course, stop evangelical fundamentalists like Jack T Chick from jumping on the idea that Allah was clearly some moon god (and of course, Christians have been known to equate pagan gods to demons) that tricked his followers into thinking he's good old Yahweh. Fun.

@@kingofmonsters14 In Lotr, there is one real god who created all of the other pseudo gods/angels. One of his angels betrayed him, is responsible for the suffering of the world and rebelled against the god but was defeated. The wizards who use magic are angels or fallen angels that were originally sent to guide humans and elves. The mythology of his world is very closely tied to Christianity (and Norse mythology which in it of itself has been christianized).

He was even before. Gandalf and the other mages like Saruman and Radagast are all angel who reincarnated in mortal form to help guide the people of Middle Earth. Saruman was the leader of the group, but after his betrayal and Gandalf sacrificing himself to defeat the Balrog, Eru (basically God) resurrected him again, this time as Gandalf the white, as new leader of the White Council.

The entirety of Tolkien’s Legendarium acts as a fictional prehistory of Europe. Tolkien was disappointed with the lack of English mythology and effectively wrote his own that acts almost as a lead in to the four Gospels, which Tolkien described as the “true myth.” They are inherently Catholic works, and the creator Eru Illuvatar was stated by Tolkien to be the same God he believed in.

Yep. Him and Lewis both had series that were about Christianity, and mixed it with the mythologies of pagan religions. C.S. Lewis had multiple series that involved fiction and Christianity. Not just The Chronicles of Narnia, but also The Space Trilogy.

My grandma was a Mormon, and her elders were all aboard the "Fantasy is Satanism" bandwagon. She had them come out and clean out my uncle's old room. One of the things they tossed out was a little board game called HeroQuest. Look up what that's selling for these days. I was so mad. I would've happily taken that game with me and taken care of it.

So the Dark Dungeons film adaptation was made by the Dead Gentlemen Productions crew, who made The Gamers and The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, two excellent low-budget indie films made by and about tabletop gaming. The whole "Shadow" part was self referential to their previous works. These guys totally trolled Jack Chick by playing up how ridiculous Chick's ideas about Dungeons and Dragons would look fleshed out. Legend.

Man i hate when during a campaign someone accidentally summons a Chtulu by reading badly translated arabic words, you have to litterally take two hours of valuable game time sealing him back up, not considering the cleaning and replacing of the exploded furniture after the sealing is done. We had to start playing outside after the last time, Tim mother threw us out of her garage after Bugg-Shash ate half her car.

Wouldn't the _actual_ forces of darkness do whatever they could to denounce and obfuscate the light? True fact, though I fell further and further away from the Church as I grew up (I got into the bad habit of reading the Bible at least once every year, _pretty solid_ way to entirely destroy your faith lol) the books and texts of C.S. Lewis probably kept me as a believer for about ten years on their own. I probably would have left the church a _lot_ sooner were it not for me finding his way of putting religion to be much more reasonable and acceptable. I dare say if my fellow church goers had been studying and using his works, who knows, I might have never left.

It was a another anti-D&D book that was also made into a movie starring a pre-fame Tom Hanks. 32:44 Wow, they put the line back in. The original Track did name-drop Tolkien and Lewis, but someone must have informed ol' Jack just how stupid that sounded because later reprints altered the line. 40:36 And that's the problem with so many people, especially over the last few years. Any differing opinion or view seems to drive them out of their mind. If they're Americans, they really need to reread that 1st Amendment to the Constitution and understand what it means.

If i'm not wrong, Mazes and Monsters was also a movie spawned by the fears of D&D spawned by the Darkest Dungeon comic. That movie is pretty crazy because even by the movie's standards the main character who is "brainwashed" by D&D (TOM HANKS no less in one of his earliest roles) clearly must have other issues as everyone else around him seems to be perfectly well adjusted people and he just goes off the deep end, and it is never really explained why.

I vividly remember crying over one of those comics because it involved this little homeless girl who was shown kindness moments before her death. I remember crying over that one and it was the only one I ever even cared for. Sorry for the comment ramble, Nate mentioned the fact some are really touching.

My school DND club is a perfect example of why some people are worried about it's influence. Because apparently a couple of kids before I joined up, made a drug empire in the game. And in the current one I'm playing, there's this one character named Bob is getting laid, and was actually almost raped by dolphin's at the last meeting, and in the first campaign I was in, we ended up joining forces with this crazy clown demigod who is trying to become an actual god, and it basically goes downhill from there. I could go on and on about the absolute insane asylum that is that club but I doubt that I have the time.

So one of the fun things about this film is while they got the endorsement of the original author and very faithfully executed the story. The group that made it does a number of dnd fan projects, and are big dnd fans, so it's obviously tongue in cheek showing the absurdity of the original track.. You can look into zombie orpheus entertainment on youtube if interested they have a number of their films available on their channel including dark dungeons.

Funny thing about bringing up CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein: it's that Gary Gigax, creator of Dungeons and Dragons, was actually a pretty heavy Christian. Before creating the game, he was a Jehova's Witness. Yes, he was in the same group who make it their mission to spread pamphlets of sermons and whatnot. So yes, the man they claimed to be a Satanist was actually a red-blooded, God-fearing and loving, All American nerd. The only reason he didn't talk much about it was, well, he was still involved with D&D and didn't want to give Christians "a bad name."
