This Pro Formula Mazda has is powered by a Renesis 13B - makes 260-270hp, multi side port, sealed engine, Pro Mazda series MOTEC ECU, unlocked but only for paddle shifters, no adjustments that would affect the performance of the engine. Only difference between it and an RX8 motor is the optimized intake and exhaust systems.

2:11 sounds almost like a classic F1...with a 2-rotors. Incredible power for a naturally aspirated rotary, Mazda really squeezed every last power of that engine and still meets regulation from 2004-2011. An underrated engine that gets shit on a lot. I already have an RX7, but an RX8 is the next goal before they get expensive.

Get them now while you still can, good condition ones are starting to get pricy. Also, get a gen 2 if you can, that extra oil port is worth it.

Million dollar Ferraris and McLarens would be toast at a track day with this car. You;d be safer and 10x easier to repair when you get get it all crossed up. They are very easy to drive and a lot of fun.

I’m using Castrol 927 for my 2 stroke oil. I’ve heard not to use synthetic oil in these engines because it doesn’t t burn off the rotors and leaves deposits. Are they referring to the 2 stroke oil, or the crankcase oil? Are you using 10w-30 or something thicker? I’m not racing mine, it’s just a track day car. Thx.

look into getting the SOHN OMP adapter kit, that way the omp can have dedicated 2 stroke oil and the engine can run synthetic. love it on my rx8

I run 40 weight or thicker if you have the sohn adapter you can run synthetic oil if you don't you probably shouldn't altho I have supposedly the synthetic engine oil doesn't burn all the way

It’s a loose gearbox. It’s common, mine does it too.

Mine literally started doing that last night after I changed my midpipe! I'm guessing it's either somethings barely touching the exhaust and then fully contacts it when the metal gets up... or maybe it's because our engines run super rich when cold 🤷

You can look up all the specs, they’re all made exactly the same. This is the second gen formula Mazda (renesis w/EFI) and it appears mostly stock.

Why not use a 13B-REW instead of a 13B-MSP? The MSP has much worse reliablility and performance

This car was produced for the Pro Formula Mazda spec series from 2004-2017, the beginning of the RX8, and switch to the Renesis 13b-MSP. No other engine variants were produced. I do not know what variant were used in the carbureted predecessor of this car, which was a heavier, steel tube chassis car making 180hp.

@@signaturemotorsports1555 I see, so the MSP was the original engine. I was under the impression this car was engine swapped to become Rotory. In this case the MSP makes sense.

Performance wise the msp is actully better. In the sense that it is naturally aspirated. Where as the 13brew has a sequential turbo setup to prpduce all the power
