In this video I show you what I think is the best way you can lift your car at home, using the four recommended lifting points as per the owner's manual. You don't have to use a trolley jack anywhere you're not supposed to. This is the Safe Jack by Rennstand! As demonstrated on my Porsche Cayman 987.2 Sport with the optional plate support for Porsche vehicles.

Handy piece of kit Max, all you want to do now is find yourself a friendly metal fabricator/welder (sometimes they can be the best, “best mate” you can have) & get three more made & you can lift all four wheels off the ground. Probably find most if not all the steel stock required (box section/round tube, flat bar & channel) in their off cuts/scrap bin, half a day’s work and for a few £ notes you could have another three for the price of one store bought set. Has to be worth thinking about, it’s something I used to do a lot of but now I’m retired, the old bones are worn out and I’m spending my free time enjoying driving and not working every spare minute building and fixing cars.

Don’t have specs from the top of my head. It’s the Halfords advanced car jack. Made by SGS engineering if I remember correctly

Hi there. I could not buy from Amazon. Had to pay for costly international shipping, ordering direct on their website, paying in USD. Was not cheap, but it’s a very useful tool.

I've just done all 4 dampers and springs. That safe jack us an excellent tool. I just used the strongest points on the chassis to lift it with a protective rubber skid.

Nice. Replaced with stock or something more exotic? I knew people lifted from strong points on the chassis, but with all the undertrays in place, I really couldn’t see much at the front of the car. The rear of the Cayman has more exposed areas for lifting. Does this mean you have to remove the undertrays at the front of the car when you lift using your method?

All looking good there Max. I've always been very wary jacking up all of my cars over the years because of my situation. I've lived in the same house for 32 years and I have 2 inclines to consider which has always been awkward but I've managed ok without any mishaps. I couldn't use my driveway as it's too steep and the street outside my home is also sloping and very narrow so I've had to jack up with the car parked halfway on the kerb as I'd block the road,....definitely not ideal. Jacking points, chassis rails and crossmembers have always been used for years but now with the advent of plastic undertrays to improve airflow underneath it's not the easy task it was. Watch your lovely Block Paving, I've used a 2ft length of tongue and groove flooring for years when I've had no other option but to jack up on my drive,..... and before getting underneath give the car a good shake side to side and front to back to ensure it has settled. The offcuts to make another 3 from the other guy is a good idea and easy to fabricate. 😁

Thanks for your detailed response. I like the idea of sitting the jack stands on something like a board of wood. Also means I avoid the gaps inbetween the block paving. I’ve done that using the kerb trick before when we had a Renault Clio and I had to patch up a hole in the exhaust ;-) Point taken on the driveway... I don’t know anyone in the UK with a level driveway, as it would turn into a swimming pool with the rain. Unless you have a mega expensive house with a custom driveway with drainage points everywhere. When I hit a million subscribers I’ll make sure to design that into my driveway!!! HAHAHAHA!!

Hi Max shame they are not for sale in UK. I bought a set of Torin big red jack plastic ramps which are great for getting quickly under front and back.

Yeah, damn shame they can't be bought in the UK. Part of the reason I love the Safe Jack so much, is that I can take the wheels off, and do some OCD cleaning of the wheel arches. Ramps are for the more adventurous who may actually work on their cars. Not sure that's me yet ;-)

The only thing better, IMHO, is QuickJack. Probably the best addition to a home garage for a do-it-yourselfer.

It is indeed excellent! I live in the UK and purchased this jack from Halfords. Your car looks great...But for me easier to call tech one auto and let tommy work his magic... So much cheaper than a Porsche dealer... Example Porsche $3500 for sports wheel and installed...Brought wheel at sun coast auto $995 free shipping and tommy charged $50 for install

Ask Tommy to quote you for replacing all coolant hoses and the aluminium and plastic pipes, followed by a full wheel alignment👍🏼. I get how Porsche can screw you on parts prices, I tend to only pay Porsche for their labour rates. Things like a new steering wheel, you did the right thing and chose an indie👍🏼

Could still be cheaper if I ship the car over in a container and let Tommy do his magic ;-) Must be nice having a local indie you can trust. Not that much price difference with indie shops where I live. Porsche want around £1,300 for the coolant hoses work, indies want around £1,000. 30% more, but I’ve got to know Porsche Brooklands so well and I really rate them.
