Have you ever needed to jack up your Tesla but weren't sure how to get around the car's limited number of safe lift points? This week, I'll be taking a look at one solution to the problem: RennStands by Safe Jack.
Please note: lifting any vehicle is dangerous and failure to employ appropriate safety practices can result in property damage, severe injury, and/or death. This video is not intended as a safety or instructional guide for the lifting process and the video author takes no responsibility for any damages which may result from your attempts to lift and/or service your vehicle.

Great video. I love my Safe Jack stands. I have used them about 15 times in different projects between the Model 3 and Model X.

A much needed type of jackstand that a lot of DIY are unsure of SAFE jack points. Agree the price is a little out there, but if there is nothing in comparison they are worth it right now. Thank you for a great review!

I just looked and these Jack stands are $225 EACH on Amazon! $199 from other online stores! 3 ton jacks at Harbor Freight are $189. I decided to pick up two more jacks and I saved money and I can use the jacks for other applications too!

Using what you have is the first consideration, if you have a one low profile jack and puck you can cut up 2'' by 10'' boards-16 inches long and stack under tires on each side to get the front end up to crawl under it. Be sure to use wheel chocks on the rear tires. Do not do this in tow mode. Works great for installing Model 3 front skid plate.

I only use one at a time in the back holes and it lifts one whole side like you noticed. I use mine to rotate my tires and one RENNSTAND lifts both tires up off the ground. Why use two?

I have 2 Jackpoint jackstands, they're expensive, and a bit more stable than these, but a single height and don't store quite as compact, although they do stack pretty well so may be pretty close with 4 of them stacked...

Hi - I need to take all 4 wheels off of our Model Y (Note: I bought 4 tesla model y jack pads). A friend is loaning me jack stands, which I haven't seen yet. Will I be able to use 'regular' jack stands vs having to buy ones like these? Thank you!

Thanks for making this video. I had never heard of these before facebook advertised them to me. I was wondering if you had enough space to slide the adapter into the jackpoint and then roll the jack underneath so no wood required. Also they are $200 a piece now. 😖
@JamieHarveyJr
@JamieHarveyJr 4 года назад
At this price I think I would be ok with one jack stand in the front and use my floor jack as an ‘aid’ in the rear, considering how rigid the chassis is. Probably adequate for the majority of users only using them for a front-to-rear tire rotation.

Pro tip for burgeoning mechanics, just get a quickjack. Those are wall hangable and take up a very small footprint. They do cost more but are SO MUCH more versatile and easy to use. They're also more foolproof and thus safer to use. I don't like how RennStands don't have opposing pairs of legs connected. That makes each welded top corner a single point of failure. To me, spending >$600 on a set of jack stands is insane. For about double the price, you have a portable lift at home with the quickjack. Infinitely more useful, IMO.

Great video and fantastic product! What is your rotation pattern? I do the simple front to back, so one jack point works perfectly for me. I would guess that you’re doing a rear forward and front cross to rear? Please let me know, Alex

What's the load rating for floor jacking a model S? I own the aluminium Harbor freight jack, rated at 1.5 tons.
@AlexVenz
@AlexVenz 4 года назад
I think I know exactly which floor jack you're talking about--they're surprisingly capable despite being dirt cheap. Curb weight of the Model S ranges from about 4330lb. to a hair shy of 5000lb. depending on version, so you'd probably be fine and I have seen one of those jacks lift an S before. Granted, Teslas are so stiff that you can end up with 2 wheels off the ground when putting the legs on the RennStands... and that could put you uncomfortably close to max rated load if you're lifting something like a P100D.

I blew my wad of cash on the Jackpoint stands www.jackpointjackstands.com/ way back when. It's a similar concept to the Rennstands but the jack pad is a much lower profile compared to the Rennstand. The only downside is that the Jackpoint stands aren't adjustable but they do offer plenty of height to do brake work or tire rotation.
@rokibler
@rokibler 4 года назад
I use just one jack stand and front/back tire rotation. I had mobile service rotate my tires last year, and he showed me that you only need to lift one side at the front to get both wheels off the ground. I use the jack stand as a safety, since the jack alone would suffice. Also, I use a 2 foot length of 2 by 10 and drive the front wheel up onto it in order to get my jack and the jack stand top under the car.

I don’t mind paying for quality tools. But this cost for what you get makes me feel that it is marketed at a SCAM level price by a dishonest company. I’ll wait for a company to offer a product to do the same thing at 40% percent of the cost without including jack heads I don’t need/want. Also, I’m not going to mar an epoxy floor with this product. So far, as I wait for and acceptable product to come to market, I’ve been able to do the things I’ve wanted with a jack, blocks and jack pads without the almost $600 cost. Thank you for showing this product and taking the time and effort to produce this video!

Based on my own limited experience in low volume US-based manufacturing, I can kinda see how they arrived at $125 per stand... I don't think it's fair to view the pricing as scammy or dishonest. Just expensive. Each base is made from 2 pieces of 3.5mm steel, look like they were probably plasma cut, the bent backing/foot piece is joined to the u-section piece with 8 welded tab-in-slot joins, plus welding around the u-section piece at the foot (makes me wonder if the u-section was cut flat and bent, or if they cut the edges of off-the-shelf u-section to make tabs). The height adjustment sections that slide into the bases are cut and drilled 3mm wall square tube steel. The top cross piece looks to be 7 separate pieces of ~5mm steel all welded together. With the adapter plate and washer in place, these stands weigh about 14lb. each--double what the traditional jack stands shown in the video weigh. The pinch weld adapter plate, as an example, isn't even a cast part... it's welded together. Add in powder coating and you end up with a fairly expensive product to make in low quantity in the US.

Nice video review. Great idea but kind of expensive especially for only 1 stand. Can’t you just jack up the car from either jack point high enough and put a stand in for the desired area? That’s what I do on my car. Jack up car from rear slot high and then put stand in front slot. Thoughts?
@AlexVenz

Depending on what you're doing to the car, that can work.

I regrettably purchased 2 of them. Thinking this would make my life easier. After all, it is marketed as a “Tesla” jack stand. But just like you, it will not clear the underside of my 3. Thus I need to do your 2x4 trick or something like that. The price is way too expensive and it doesn’t work without getting creative. I will pass on buying the remaining 2. Plus I am recommending to all my Tesla friends to stay away from these until someone can design it properly so that it works without 2x4s or other potentially hazardous way to lift it in order to lift it. Final conclusion: Close, but FAIL ..
@AlexVenz
@AlexVenz 4 года назад
It's not like there's a standard height for low profile floor jacks... Brian (i1Tesla) has a floor jack that allows the RennStand to clear the Model 3. I just can't be bothered to get a more appropriate floor jack. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
