This almost brought me to tears. You are truly blessed. I would love to have inherited my grandparents home. They immigrated here from the Bahamas nearly a century ago. And both have been gone for over 25 years. My grandfather built it himself and it stands as a historical landmark. But my uncle lost it and it's now owned by a conglomerate who rents it out. They gutted parts of it and changed the layout. I pray that by some miracle I can take ownership of it and revive its soul.
I pray this for you! ❤ if it’s not that place, you will bring life to something else that brings you the same joy. Your memories of the beauty of that place are alive within you and can expressed on a new canvas. I’m excited for you!!
@@lissaw4 I would totally agree. The all white and grey trend has died down significantly. It was at its height in 2015. Restoration has been on trend for years now so it's interesting when I see people mention the "all white" decor trend.
It's her 'childhood apartment', didn't you hear her? You know, like when privilege meets annoying? An apartment is something you RENT. Most likely inherited the unit AND the money to reno. I hope the guy was smart enough to STILL bill for services, so when all is done and she drops him, he can still collect legally.
Also thank you restoring many parts of your beautiful apartment. I have seen many simply tear all the walls down and modernize. I appreciate you keen eye to bringing the beauty out of what was originally built
@@sophiesong8937I see this over and over. It’s a real problem. You watched this video and that shows your appreciation. Even homes that are affordable are uninspired. I hope this changes.
I wish I had grandparents in my life, or that my own father felt the way you do. He’s convinced himself that helping your children beyond their basic needs is in fact somehow hindering them. Gives him the perfect excuse to do the only thing he knows how, focus solely on his own needs. And now that we’re all around forty and all still flailing in life (no careers, no children, no marriages) I really wish he had realised the value of supporting and nurturing your children in the way that you do. And I’m not even talking about financial support, though of course that helps, but really it’s everything else that I really missed out on. Your grandkids are lucky to have you ❤
I love that you inherited your childhood home and get to care for it! It seems like such a loving thing to make sure your child has a home after you're gone. I come from an extended family of vultures and no shred of inheritance has ever made it to me from grandparents etc. My parents think of their home as only THEIR home and insist on it going to strangers when they die. I would give anything to live in it again and restore it.
Why would they not want to give it to their children. That is crazy. My mom wouldn't let us leave home until we had a home to buy. No we didn't buy beautiful expensive homes but we bought them fixed them and we all own our own home. She left our beautiful old home 6 bedrooms 2 floors to my Olde sister since she never married and her son lit fire to it cuz he's totally uncaring and irresponsible.
@@lorasamario5969 they could've sold it. Not many people are financially stable enough to leave homes for their kids, especially considering the housing crisis nowadays
This actually reminds me of my godparents' town house in London I used to visit in the 80s. It's the airy but grounded feeling of the greens and whites.
Hi Hattie! I love your place and watching your process! ❤ I love living off grid and at first, I started on my own. One day I called in someone to help me with batteries. Now he’s my husband. Of course I thought of that for you. Nothing compares to doing fun projects with your beloved, and it makes it AMAZING when you both enjoy doing that stuff together. ❤ all the blessings to you both.
Wow! Beautiful renovation of such a classic place and you definitely have an eye for great interiors!!! Would you ever be interested to get into interior design after this? Tnx for bringing us on the ride it’s so interesting and enjoyable to see the result x What an amazing way to meet your boyfriend too, perhaps it was meant to be! Best of luck in your home and relationship x
She doesn’t own it. It’s a fixed rent apartment that her parents got through the city bc they were teachers. Now that they’ve retired to Virginia, she’s moved in and started renovating. Bc it’s the same family, somehow the rent is the same, so less than $1k a month in New York. It’s a great price and allows her to live affordably in such an expensive city (esp. since I’m guessing her boyfriend is charging her a dramatically reduced rate/free), but neither she or her parents are wealthy by US standards and especially by New York standards. Lower middle class, but very lucky!
Wow, are doing an awesome job, and how blessed to add a new beau to the story. I would love to see more photos, the architectural elements and attention to detail that are common in this period are absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for sharing your home.🙏🏻
Hattie, your work is outstanding. You have the kind of home that is an escape from the outside confusing and sometimes unpredictable world. Your home is a sanctuary for you and those that you love( love that you met your boyfriend while doing your renovations) . That was kismet. And even more remarkable was that you have gone full circle and are back in your childhood bedroom. How fortunate are you but you have worked very hard to make your vision come true. You are an artisan. Please , sometime, have a video of your entire journey.
OMG! What a stunning, fabulous apartment!!! The layout, the scale, and the original details are to die for!!!! The pocket doors and the moldings are spectacular!!!! I'm feeling a cross between envy and ecstacy. So wonderful that you are restoring it to its glory. You and that apartment are both lucky to have each other. Subscribed!
Wow you are incredibly blessed and you and your boyfriend are doing an absolutely beautiful renovation you are putting a lot of love and thought and Care into your home wow and it has touched my heart you will have a beautiful life there💖💛💫🙏🏻
Her taste is actually not that unique, this was they way everything and everywhere use to look before everything started getting too expensive to build.
Dang, I'm sorry this has such an insanely negative response. The home is beautiful, you've done a great job on it. You can help being born to the family you were just as much as anyone else can. It sounds like you understand this is not something just anyone could do. Please don't be discouraged by the negative response.
U have a natural talet girl! U dont learn those things like what looks good some people dont have a clue. Lol bc they dont have that gift of colors and textures. U kkep up the great work . U are blessed
ABSOLUTELY 🔥🎆💖S T U N N I N G!! You are beyond talented and so appreciative of your hard work- restoring vintage is completely different than all the modernization seen everywhere. My vintage 1938 (in California, that’s ‘vintage’☺️…compared to 💗NYC, “CA still young”…) was a labor of love but loads of fun & sweat equity. Renovating makes one appreciate others’ hard work even more!
Really? Jealousy is such a vicious trait🙄 Look at how much hard work she’s done, not everyone would have the time, energy and taste to do this. Be happy for the girl 😊
