We sealed all our wood... luon and the wood floor under the bed. Just in case water got in there somehow again. I would recommend using 2 part epoxy for attaching the filon to the luon.

Talk with Covet the Camper channel. He is an RV Tech and certified RV inspector. He rebuilt his whole slide and saddle bags and worked on the cab over I believe. I am sure he has some good ideas and tips that will help you on your project.

You can use contact cement on the whole thing or in spots to hold it in place while the other glue sets.

You two are more than capable ! Just remember that you are dealing with mold, get really great masks, that cover your face.? I think that l would find the closest seam, cut to it and remove all the fiberglass to that point, then grind all the under surface, clean and paint it, if it is dry! If you can't purchase finished fiberglass or thin nylon / plastic sheets? Than l would insulate and cover with aluminum sheet. 💡 or even thin steel sheet like the bus guys use! it's called ? Galvanealed? Something like that? I know it's not galvanized, but a process that protects the metal from moisture and rust. The bus guru " chuck casidy" uses it when he does roof raises. Anyway, you are very capable and can handle it ! all the best 👍🏻. Looking forward to see what you do. Safety first. ✌🏻🧡 🌦 🌧 🇨🇦.

All great ideas! And yes I have a mild mask I wear when cleaning the old rotted wood! For the side I’m gonna have to cut it back and crest my own seam unfortunately. No seams along the side it’s all one piece. As long as the water damage is gone and it looks good I don’t mind having a seam down the side! Thanks for all your comments!

The GetawayCouple channel just did the side and cab over of their camper as well. They are new to truck camping but they may have some tricks they discovered doing theirs. Both them and Covet the camper have videos on it.

I have been looking forward for this renovation as I too have a Arctic Fox 1150 camper that needs a "lot" of repair. All I can say is good luck and hope yours is better than mine. Mine is not the special edition, so it doesn't have the Aluminium super structure. The walls are just 3/4" furring strips, Styrofoam sandwiched between 1/8" luan. You will find the further you delve into this the worse it gets. On my camper the LF and LR corners are completely rotted away as is the rear wall. I have had to remove the complete Filon skin off of the left side and rear wall as well as the front cap just as you did. Luckily the upper front cap sub structure is in good condition but the "over hang floor area" is rotted like yours is and will need to be completely rebuilt and replaced, again wood furring strips, no aluminium. I was thinking about trying to make an aluminium frame for this floor area. Will see how yours is made and maybe give me some ideas. AF used card board on the front cap and rear wall as filler, but all that did was attract moisture. Also the front wall underneath the overhang is bad. My plan for the front and rear walls is to use 3/4" inch plywood sheets, "instead of the furring strips" with cutouts for foam insulation sandwiched between 1/8 or 1/4" plywood and then "poor man's fiberglass" the outside. I think i can coat that then with Raptor Liner or some such to seal it. Filon sheets are really expensive. This camper is slated to be mounted on the front of a Fifth Wheel trailer as a Crawler Hauler project and if I didn't have so much money in it, I would have scraped it a long time ago. I will say this about Arctic Fox campers, they are JUNK, JUNK, JUNK and built about as cheap anything out there. But I guess you are fix-in to find that out. Again, best of Luck and I will be following this project with much interest.

Thanks so much for following along. These campers are just not made as strong as they should be. Seems to be every brand. I got lucky with having the aluminum framing! Appreciate the comment! Good luck with your build as well!

When done with the rebuild consider fabbing up some front jack extensions to make taking the camper off easier in the future !
@JensenAdventuresaz
@JensenAdventuresaz Год назад
That’s the plan! It also won’t be coming back off after this round of repairs 😂

Fascinating to see the progress. Dang RV's just rot away to easily. Awesome that it's got an aluminum structure :)

Thank guys! We’ve been through it with the Kodiak for sure. But we love the platform. Can’t wait to get the camper done and get back out in the rig!

I have a Lance and I built 1.5 jack bracket extensions to make the front jacks wider for my factory dually fenders .... there is a gentleman on you tube who repairs the desalination on RVs , he is a wealth of knowledge...

I have watched some videos. And will be making some jack extensions in the future if I ever have to take the camper off the truck again! Thanks for your comment!

Wow! That's going to be a job. I was noticing the block placement when you explained it. Some tight fit. I though mine was scary. I can never wait to get it lowered after removal.

Yes it’s stressful. It will go back on when repaired and not come back off haha

When I did water damage repair on my old camper I used miranti marine plywood. It’s a bit more expensive then the original luan ply stuff they use. I’d pull whole front section off down to bare frame so you know what you’re working with.
@JensenAdventuresaz
@JensenAdventuresaz Год назад
I ended up doing that. Whole front piece will be replaced as well! Thanks for the suggestion I’ll check into that.

I would think about a wood panel on the front to hold the glued angled front down with some strap keepers and run the straps all the way around and down the camper
@JensenAdventuresaz
@JensenAdventuresaz Год назад
I was thinking about that too! Thanks for the idea!

Very stressful! When the camper is fixed and it goes back on the Kodiak we will be removing the jacks to save a little weight and it will be staying on the truck. Thanks for following along!
