If you're tired of the same old story turn some pages, I'll be here when you're ready to roll with the changes. Apparently this is my favorite song now🤗😍😍😍⚓
Last time I remember hearing this song I was riding in the back seat of Ladder Tender Co 3 as an (engine) paramedic, roaring down the main drag and rattling store windows with the old fan siren that they had on that thing, running to a drowning incident. The patient was a twelve year old boy from New York City who had jumped into the lake off of some low cliffs outside of the designated swimming area. He had never been swimming in his life and was dared to jump in by his friends. It was so early in the Spring that the lifeguards were stilll hiring their staff and not guarding the water for three more weeks. But in a twist of fate, they had had their first meeting, which wrapped up almost an hour earlier, and were still hanging out at the park. This high school kid who was on the varsity swim team as a freshman was there, lamenting that his age precluded him working the beach that Summer. But that day, he was the first one into the frigid lake to find the boy in distress. The water wasn't only cold, but it was incredibly murky. But this unbelievable badass swimmer actually found the twelve year old like he knew EXACTLY where he was, under that dark water. I only saw them swimming him into the shore as their supervisor manned a stokes litter at the edge of the cliff face. Now most of the time, we don't get the thrill of a drowning victim surviving, much less neurologically intact. But I remember, intubating him and shooting the epi down the tube,( instead of bothering with an IV right away), and it took only one shock to convert his v-fib into a sinus tachycardia that perfused him well enough to turn that blue face white, then red. He was breathing so well on his own that I was worried I might have to extubate him on the way to the ER. And about three and a half terrifying hours later in the ICU, that little kid woke up and could say his own name. That scrawny high school freshman with the damn six pack abs had performed a miracle. I remember how freezing cold the water felt to me on the kid's clothing, let alone swimming in it. That boy grew up into a man, and kept in touch with Tommy the lifeguard and me. I think of it every time I hear the song!
It's funny, (as a guitar player) whenever I hear this solo start, and blaze on, I can't help but get a feeling that this band doesn't call for guitar-work this excellent and blazing. Not that this band wasn't awesome, and I love the song also.
When life is dragging me down i listen to this song and it's just the kick in the ass i need to put me back on track, They'll be playing this at my funeral !
I've liked this song since '78. I heard it on the radio yesterday and thought, "Holy crap! This is an awesome song!" And now that I know the lyrics, all I can say is, "Wow. Truly incredible!" Thanks, Mark. Ya done real good.
Thank God for the music I grew up on ! And the many others that held our clapping hands through a very rough spot in history and delivered us on the other side of Vietnam and Nixon without us becoming hateful and propagandized into a condition of being comatose !
A few years back I saw REO, .38 special and Styx w/my dad. Easily my favorite concert! Took me by surprise but something about this “older” style of chaotic but harmonic rhythmic rock paired w/those lyrics. #keeponrollin!
This song goes out to the woman who got me through my darkest hour, my divorce. We broke up sort afterwards, yet she will always have a special place in my heart.
Imagine being the history teacher who wrote "1915 reo speedwagon" on the blackboard, not knowing some of his students would use it to launch a world famous band
Gary's death was such a big loss to so many people who never forgot about him and his brilliant musicality. People around the world. Still so hard to believe he's gone. Thank you God for this man Gary Richrath...rest in peace
*One of the best friends & guitar players, I'd ever known & jammed with, "Robin Sheridan", R.I.P. :/ , (MISS YOU, BRO'!!!)...this song, when he played it, lit him up like an ('~A~')ngel...and still gives me chills, thinking about him playing it!!! Love Ya', Bro' & Looking Forward To Jamming With You, In Heaven...~ !!!
Jesus Christ God and the Holy Ghost is with you always. If he has already passed, he is suffering no more. And I am sorry for your loss. Death occurs because life occurs. And none of us know when death will meet us
I don't what happened. I heard this on the way to work this morning, and it hit me like lightning. It's funny how some songs I was present for originally are coming back in new contexts.
Damn good band from the mid west that, (in my opinion) was under valued & under rated !! They sounded really good live and gave us some really good songs!! I still have my double live album ..................... yes the vinyl one !! I think i paid 10-12 $'s for it though maybe less.
2:58, Kevin is wearing a KMET tee shirt. WHOOOO-YA TO YA. The Mighty Met, Rockin' LA. "Little bit a' Heaven, Ninety-four point seven, KMET, Tweedle-dee". GOD, I MISS THE MET. Paraquat Kelly and Cynthia Fox with the Fish Report, including a dozen cunning Ling Cod caught at Santa Monica Pier.
I miss Richrath! What a guitar virtuoso and stellar artist in general. He had the IT factor for sure! I guess the shining stars always seem to get taken from us early.
One hell of a song. Upstate NY where I grew up they play this on the radio down here in Florida it's Bon jovi steel cowboy horse all dam day long. Genesee joe!
