Before you buy a new fuse, just apply some pressure on the fuse with a small screw driver, it pushes in and works again. It worked for me at least. If doesnt help, just remove the fuse and connect 2 points without fuse, it will work just fine.

It is possible to run without fuse but I always say that safety element is there for a reason. Please consider adding a fuse.

@@letsfixitgarage Sorry, I never noticed that you responded here. I wouldn't say the fuse is crushed. I think all I did is just made the soldered connection stronger by pushing it back down. I would guess that the vibration of this toothbrush has been slowly separating it over 3 years of use. ...I think.
@letsfixitgarage
@letsfixitgarage 11 месяцев назад
Well if there is a micro crack in solder point it needs to be resoldered. And only resoldering never worked in my case. That's why I suspect that fuse itself is damaged and if you push on the solder points it would regain the contact only for that time. When you use the brush there is a lot of vibrations that would break it again.. don't get me wrong I'm glad that a lot of people getting second life for their brushes but if the motor would short (quite implausible) I would not trust that kind of fuse to do its job. Just my 5 cents :) and thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for the video! Managed to get one with leds lighting up and 1 sec of motor action working by compressing the PP fuse. After one use, the whole brush died, no action at all. The microcontroller (TI CC2640) can be reset by grounding pin no. 35. I used a 1k resistor to ground it on the motor ground. Brush woke up instantly. Now testing to see whether it works long-term. I suspect that something is failing on the board. This brush has been abused a bit and it has a crack on the body, but no obvious liquid damage is visible.

I also fixed my Genius-X by heating up the fuse with a soldering iron. I assume the fuse isn't broken at all. It is more likely a bad soldering connection which breaks at some point due to the vibration. By heating up the fuse the connection gets "refreshed". My brush would run for a second or two, slow down and stop. I found that polyfuse marked PP was dropping about 3 volts in the stopped condition. PP is a Bourns MF-PSML300/6-2 0805 rated 3A. Bypass PP with a multimeter set to DC current, the brush runs and the meter reads 0.5A so my fuse must be faulty. I bridged the fuse with solder and it works now.

It's difficult to diagnose remotely.. the fuse that I explained was responsible only for powering the motor. Toothbrush itself was functioning.. if it went out while diagnosing I can only assume that some component was shorted out with probes.. check battery voltage both fuses and go from there...

Really appreciated your video here. Same symptoms for me, toothbrush might rotate for 2-3 seconds but would stop, then nothing for several minutes or even wait overnight to get any life again. In my case I applied a bit of pressure to the 'PP' fuse to see if there was any physical connection problem and sure enough, this 'fixed' my problem. So I believe I had a cold solder joint. And with the high vibration of these motors you might expect this to happen with some units. I don't have smd tip or tweezers for my soldering station, but I used my smallest tip and added just a small amount of fresh solder to the fuse pads. Seems to be working for me for a couple days so far. Thanks again.

Hello, I am trying to find a document/source/information indicating the meaning of colour "main" LED which has turned from white to blue+green (from outside looking, no dismantling) recently and these last couple randomly days into full blue. I hold a genius 9000 from 3 years now and it behaves like that recently (3months approx). I also observed once I started it, it was stopping by itself despite battery indicator was showing not empty. Furthermore, if you apply too much pressure during brushing, main LED should lights which I didn't observe since a while... I had previous Oral B generation which I do not remember the category. No sign of battery charging/duration loss/decreasing in power/rotation speed or even noise except when battery goes low charge ( I never wait a full discharge for recharging). Oral are quite noisy compared competitors ;) From full charge (couple hours upon charging voltage so mainly during night/sleeping [I am changing world region with working area => 110-240Vac], I do not observe any battery life "reduction". My first query would the battery's spec. I read through few website indication of 1.2V but once opened with elements in place (nothing removed), I measured 3,49Vdc approx. Once board/mechanism removed from holder, my battery looks similar the one on this video, same colour. Sharing troubleshooting experience just now ; ) . Prior looking that video, I was trying to investigate more and possibly replace the battery, I bought one of 1,2Vdc. There was some rusted moisture near "teeth wheels" behind the motor. It may have affected the board components and produced unexpected behaviour. I didn't succeed (very limited hand welder or too old) to remove the battery for better inspection but after this, I noticed by pressing the starting button, the toothbrush was keeping in operation without interruption as written above. It might happened during welding I "remade" the connection battery to board on better connection than before. At the end, old battery still in place. However, the 2 leds (blue and green) remain ON during operation phase. I am very curious of the colour designation. I remember at first bought, main LED (from outside looking) was white. Any suggestion/idea or eve from "Vilnius". Would great, thank you.

@letsfixitgarage 2 года назад
Greetings from Vilnius :) there is a lot writen so sorry if not everything will be answered but few things regarding color of the led if I recall correctly it is a Bluetooth enabled device and with app you can change the colour of the lights. Maybe some settings "droped" accidentally and that's why the color changed.. regarding battery you have a li-ion battery that has working range from ~3V up to 4.2V. it seems you have bought a ni-mh battery that has working voltage of 1.2V so please do not mix or exchange them. If it had some rust it could have gotten water damage but this is always difficult to diagnose remotely. Hope this helps you ;)

@@letsfixitgarage Thanks for response. I never DL the application till now. A bit useless from my perspective. Through it, I was able to switch the colour. Sorry no. But for this brush I would just use different, simple fuse. This type fuse is clearly not suitable for this application..

Which of them is works? 1206 2A or 0603 1A

both should work. I would go with 2A. 1206 is slightly larger than original so a little bit more difficult to solder it in. 0603 is smaller than original so easier to solder in but more difficult to see what you are doing if you don't have serious magnification..

i have the same brush, it starts for 3 secs and stops until you switch it off and start again and the same happens. pressing on the fuse helped and it started working, i guess connection fails because of vibrations. tried to fix it with crazy glue ..will see haha

@@letsfixitgarage hello again, well it lasted for 11 days now pressing the fuse won't help much, it wont start at all until i put it on charging, then i have my 3 secs of working and then shuts down again. I guess I off to repair, could you please tell me which fuse I can use to replace? 2 amps?
