No shit? Wow that's amazing I'm going to line the inside of my boat with it and then epoxy bc the problem I keep running into is the fiber keeps sliding out of place and epoxy gets everywhere when trying to get it right, so this saves me a ton of effort, thank you

We need to hangout! My gf and I are moving down south and buy some property. Carolinas are definitely one of our top choices! Maybe one day we could meet up and do some bashing!!

I like the "we got issues,it's ironclad rc! ". Your positive attitude about "issues"and how to work around it, is what life's all about. Good stuff brother! 👏

Super Helpful!! Gives me a direction to go now! My hatch is 13 year old plastic, I must reinforce it b4 it breaks

I'd do epoxy fiberglass or epoxy carbon fiber for reinforcements. The drywall tape method is for small cracks/little quick repairs. it's heavier than fiberglass/carbon fiber. Works the same way, but much heavier. Epoxy, especially Gflex epoxy, works great on abs but any good epoxy resin will work just prep the hell out of the work surface

Excellent method ... worked perfectly on my split hull .. only took an hours work and cost no more than £10 ... top man 👌👊👍🏻 p.s. used the plastic welder transparent yellow ... same make not as thick ... just brush it on and its lovely to work with and dont smell much

Given the amount of abs hulls on the market today, you should do a video on reinforcing an abs hull. Theres so much controversy on not using fiberglass to reinforce an abs hull due to heat and chemical reactions. You are the only fe guy on RU-vid with so much helpful stuff. Keep it up big b.
@IRONCLADRC

I've been using fiberglass cloth and epoxy, works just fine if the area is prepared properly... g-flex epoxy is the best for abs or poly its actually made for plastics and flexible so it bends with the poly or abs.
@Shinobi117
@Shinobi117 Год назад
@@IRONCLADRC yeah I heard of gflex. See, I've been a fiberglass guy since working at a hobby shop (paradise) in Florida and I never looked at abs hulls in fear of breaking apart if I stuffed it. But now I own an abs cat (big storm) so I already know I'm gonna end up having to reinforce it. So you use regular fiberglass along with epoxy resin? Can you give any tips on how it needs to be prepped in order to stick? Also can I use carbon fiber instead?

@@Shinobi117 i have a big storm that runs twin TFL mini outboards, i haven't done any reinforcements on the hull yet buts it's held up well so far, granted it drives like a pile of crap at the moment, i don't think the setup will ever work was just an idea

That sticker over the top of the damage area, is like a move out of my playbook 😂 I have even had people tell me the liked the look of the stickers hiding the damage ! Great vid I have never used that JB weld ! Always used the ole baking soda and C/A trick . 👍 keep them coming I like watching your vids because you are an everyday rc guy not one of the guys with endless funds . Fix it don’t replace it ! Not every rc enthusiast can just go get new stuff !

That's right. Fix it don't replace it, it's a expensive hobby and cost adds up rather quick. Shoot I have more fun making custom parts than buying a 200 dollar bolt on part. More self satisfaction ya know

Thank you I needed this and will use the JB plastic weld and drywall tape 😁👍🏼. Nice repair and the carbon accent looks great. I'm trying to build a 495mm shrimp Outrigger but it has no plans do you know of a good build series on that boat I think you have built it before as well. Thanks 🙏🏼😎

You want to drill an 1/8 hole on the end of each crack to prevent cracks propagation. It reoccur if isn't done

Thank you !!! I’m gonna use this exact method for my M41 hull , someone ran into me at the lake and it sucks because mines the snap-on edition version so I can’t just buy a spare hull for it, but a fixed boat with some scars on it is better than a boat that’s not being used

Great vid as always bro, as I've now got a boat thats plastic and I'm a bit concerned about the strength of it, as its capable of 50 mph (Joysway Alpha 1060 mm length x 250 mm beam, would it be possible to strengthen the inside using that method? Only problem would be getting in far enough to sand the inside so that the materials will stick, I've seen these boats on utube just disintegrate after a high speed flip, Cheers bro
@IRONCLADRC
@IRONCLADRC 2 года назад
Possibly the real problem is that the jbplastic bonder dries in 20 mins so you would need to do small sections at a time. I think it would strengthen the hull... this method worked realy well on the hatch the areas I did are rock solid, I'm looking at it as I text this message and there are no spots pulling up. Good lock.

@@IRONCLADRC thanks for the reply, thinking about it, maybe the easiest solution would be to vinyl wrap the boat, would it make it stronger?

Yo Iron clad We use drywall tape with shoe goo on the rc bodys. Does the plastic bond add weight to help from flipping?
@IRONCLADRC
@IRONCLADRC Год назад
I guess it could if it were added in the right spots. Bob smith industry or ZaP epoxy works great for abs and polycarbonate, plastic bonding & gluing is all about the preparation 99.9999999 % prep
