Surface Laptop Studio was on my AVOID list, because I assumed it would be a nightmare to repair it myself, especially the display and potentially a glued in battery. This video is very powerful, as it has now moved this to the top of my list for my next mobile workstation. Thanks for this video and also putting the RTX A2000 into this device. This is a huge step in the right direction Microsoft, seriously thank you, please do not stop here.

My old Surface Book 1 wishes it was this repairable. Such a positive change to make these devices more serviceable and recyclable.
@TReKiE

I echo this, this is a huge improvement. In early 2020 my SB 1 got the dreaded well-documented swollen battery problem. After a super-careful crazy two hour repair, I successfully replaced it with another battery, but the touch/pen no longer worked properly. Then earlier this year the swollen battery occurred again, but this time in the base/keyboard. I removed the battery but didn't bother to replace it. The whole thing is now being held together with green masking tape. Hopefully all the future Surface products get this repairability treatment.

Def hoping this applies to the next Surface Laptop. Surface Pro is a lost cause for repair ability as the design from the Pro X and Pro 8 is probably locked in now. I would like to see upgradable RAM on a future Surface Pro, even if you have to buy from MS

@kornkernel2232
@kornkernel2232 2 года назад
Thats actually the flaw of this design that it hides the screw soo well that even a computer tinkerer missed it. Not to mention that it's pretty much a waster after removing it or at least painful to reinstall. Hopefully there will be a future improvements on this front to improve the accessibility of the internal components and less waste.

This is a major improvement over previous Surface devices! My only real concern is the two final screws holding on the cosmetic plate are hidden under a vinyl sticker, which would make reassembly next to impossible to maintain the aesthetic cohesiveness. A pin released panel like the SSD/SIM panel on the Surface Pro would be much sturdier, accessible, and easily reinstalled. Thank you for making such an effort at improving repairability and keep up the good work!

So good to see how much can be replaced and how little adhesive is used. It'd be awesome if a future iteration made the battery replaceable, too, but I imagine that's a bit more challenging to engineer than other components. Also, props for adding that note at the end about needing to connect a charger after reassembling - probably saved someone out there from panicking ;)

Wow... this gives me chills. Its like things are going very bad in this world WHILE things are going to get awesome T_T ! WOW xD Seriously.... AMAZING JOB... I need one like this ! Its sad I need to save so much money for that, but... worth it! What would be amazing with this laptop is to use the empty space on the bottom of the laptop to add extensions ! I don't think microsoft would do it because it would block a little bit the fans grills, But what I propose is a kind of module (For SD CARD RIGHT? + 2 USB A Ports lol) that plugs into the USB C port. The port would be flat and bend to reach the bottom empty space of the laptop on top of the grills but also curve 90 degree to the back of the laptop or the front for the magnets (A semi-rigid plastic cable) This doesn't need to be too big. I say semi-rigid because if its to reach the front of the laptop, It would be harder to break due to it being a cable, so its slim and easy to break if too rigid. Anyways. In the back idk how it could stay in place unfortunately, But in front it would be GOD-SENT. God-tier level of laptop at this point... ! I don't think my idea is too wild, It would maybe block 15-25% of the right side fan's grills... But its more for productivity I guess... AND From the reviews, The fans are "Too much", the laptop cannot overheat whatsoever... So even for gaming accessories like an External SSD for more space, more hubs and such, I dont think it would be that bad. Depending on the material of the bottom of the laptop, it could be even be possible to add magnets TO the cable and modules !!! If this is possible, the sky is the limit for the accessories that can be added because, The fans can actually be saved at 99% because of the space there is BELLOW the grills !! How I see this, is to add other grills on top (Slim) that supports a bigger bottom and columns that solidify the structure ! This could be done by an amateur too... Sadly I do not have the space to create that :C But yah... we could add: RGB, Many external SSD (a lot of capacity since we could put some in the back and in the front ! But SSD would have to be custom made by Microsoft I think sadly T_T) , SD card readers, additional ports, small sound bar, volume bar (which would be amazing), additional macros buttons. THIS laptop have the potential to be literally the most customizable laptop on the market ! If we can start a trend of doing this... like we used to do in the 90-2000s or wtv with PC cases, cars and anime toys... This would be crazy nice O: !!

so, as you probably are aware, the two biggest issues to fix are the stability of the thing, it can get wiggly as you pull the screen out, so a tighter hinge resulting in a more elegant transformation would make this a banger, as well as that people want this thing in 16 inches. Uh.. can you upgrade the memory after you buy it?
@pineapple6385
@pineapple6385 Год назад
Ig you can't. because everything is build-in (battery, memory..). You can only replace your memory with new one that has the same manufacturer, the same product serial number. If you don't do that. the new memory won't work

A repairable design is worthless when Microsoft actively refuses to sell you any replacement part. I have the grinding fan issue on my GPU fan -- which is easy to find documented across the internet -- and after some back and forth with support, have been told that I have to ship my nearly $3000 laptop in and wait two weeks for a mail-out replacement. They refuse to simply ship a replacement fan assembly, which at this point I would even be willing to pay for out of my own pocket (even though it's most certainly a defective part -- others have the same issue and I take very good care of this machine). This video was a major reason I decided to trust Microsoft with my investment and so far it's proving to have been a mistake. It's a great laptop, but their adamant refusal to trust me with one of the simplest possible self-service repairs despite the part being defective at their own fault is a major trespass against my trust in them. Impressively enough, even Apple will dare to ship SOME self-service kits & parts out, if for a massive sum of cash. I didn't think I'd find someone worse about self-repair than Apple, yet here we are. I hardly think I'll be buying a Surface again in the future. I was almost impressed.

This might sound crazy but I know the CPU is soldered in but what if a professional that can unsolder it and put in a 12th gen i9 core? or something much more powerful? For a SLS I got the 3050 RTX 4gb ram which is kinda weak only 4gb ram??? But I got the 32gb version however IT can play some AAA games pretty good but you usuually only get 30fps rarely youll get a 60fps constant lock evne on low graphcis which kinda blew my mind does anyone know how to undervolt this laptop? I got the highest build i7 3050 32gb 2tb but for the price of over 3k I though it would of been a lot better, I could of gotten a gaming laptop that was way smaller and also a 2in1 but nope, I wasted my money on this lol I regret it to be honest...... But now I have it and what else can I do?
