Repair Updates and Bargain Pickups - Faulty Handheld Console Edition 

The clear case for the DS is really nice. I got one for mine a while ago and it looks great! One thing you need to be carefully about is the screws that come with it are really crap. I accidently stripped the head of one of the screws cos they are just so cheap, so the case bottom corner of the case is loose but it does look really good especially when the battery is low cos the red LED just lights up the whole case.

I just bought a transparent blue housing with an led board from dx a few weeks back for my ds lite, still waiting for it to come, really looking forward to doing the job!

Great pick ups. I hope you can get the lynx working great console. I'm tempted to try and pick up some faulty consoles to Mod or repair

When I replace top LCD's they usually require soldering the original speakers to the new replacement LCD. The bottom border I find to be a easy fix, but the top LCD lens is a real pain. The thing I hate most is when I get a speck of dust stuck on the lens and have to clean it out.

@roc6d It can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks typically. Usually 3 weeks from placing the order.

@SpiderPg92 I saw those pre-lit units. They look very cool! I just used the original DS screws when replacing the case. The replacements are usually pretty poor quality like you mention.

@Brakzias Thanks. My monotone voice can get a bit irritating on it's own, lol. I try to use video game music in the background to keep things a little more balanced ;P

@MBisFrenchy Your right, I had to solder in the new speakers. It wasn't too bad but soldering to those thin ribbon cable pads was a little unnerving! It's removing the touch screen border I find difficult. The glue is normally very sticky and can lift/damage the touch screen membrane underneath. I try to avoid it if I can.

@Utoobyourself Thanks. I checked everything I could, but sadly no joy. I'll get the mobo replaced eventually. It wont go to waste, don't worry ;-)

@aeneasfate I don't really use Dingux for anything other than accessing the mega drive emu. I was just messing about with various interfaces available. The PSP style one was kinda cool though.

@jondez1011 It's quite tricky yes. You will need to do some soldering and deal with very small parts.

@Polaventris Thanks. I hate skins too! I had started to remove it then decided it was WAAY too much effort, lol. It would have taken me hours to remove and get cleaned. Easier just to buy a new case.

I just read this in the Action Replay MAX GBA Instruction Manual: If your device is corrupted for any reason, you might be told the hardware needs to be reset. To reset your hardware to its factory settings, switch on your console and press both shoulder buttons, A, B and Start together while the Action Replay DUO is booting up. You’re given a three-second warning. If you don’t wish to reset your hardware, turn the console off immediately. If you do, just wait. This will wipe all codes

@Halogenn75 Well, I break plenty of stuff. I just don't always show it in my videos :P. But really anything you need to know can normally be found doing google searches. Just do a lot of reading on forums and see how other people have fixed similar issues etc.

@edt1138 I was kinda hoping all it needed was that ribbon cable reseated and a bit of a clean. Oh well, lol. Even with the new parts I suppose I could still make back my money and a little extra if I decide to sell.

@yasum90 These devices don't use batteries. GBA games in general don't use batteries for save games. It was only some early games released before 2001 that had them I believe.

@jondez1011 I've replaced my screen on my phat ds, it wasn't difficult at all. The thing that gave me trouble was that I didn't seat the ribbon cable perfectly, and it refused to work: bottom screen would flash and then turn off the ds. After some research, I reseated it and it worked fine. I've heard the lites are harder to fix, just make sure you don't really damage the ribbon cable or you have to buy an entirely new screen and cable together.

I actually looked up images of Action Replays and that one is the Action Replay Max.

@StigsGameRoom Yeah I'll have to track down a Lynx with a dead screen or something and use it for parts. I'd love to have a shot on a Lynx. The Dingoo is great! I'll need to check and see if there's a good Game Gear emu for it but I'd guess there will be. The Mega Drive emu is brilliant though. Same goes for the Capcom emus. Nice little handheld all round.

@RetroGameTech alright, it's in my country according to tracking so it shouldn't be too long, never done a ds lite case before but I'm sure I can follow the guide, and the led board is just 3 solder points, haha

@HaxAras Ha, I thought these would be your kinda thing! They seem to be kinda hard to find nowadays.

@Gamerzwarz You can get "signed" versions of a few emulators (including PicoDrive but also SNES9X Euphoria, MasterBoy and Nester amongst others) that will work on any PSP, CFW or not.

@shaurz Same. It's jest a pitty there's no proper backlit screen. Otherwise it could have been a near perfect little system

@DaveSimonH You must have been gutted! lol. I'll probably not use it too much. Maybe just for games I get really stuck on. They're kinda cool though!

Can you do a seperate video on repairing that clear action replay? I got one that works find except it won't connect to a PC. I don't know how to open it to do any repairs.

Great video Martin! Feel sorry for the Lynx. Great system. Did you chk to see if it could be the regulator or some type of fuse?

I have like 3 of those gameshark cheat things for DS + GBA haha I'm in the money!

Pico drive is a emulter made for the psp CFW it runs much better on the psp but then there is the hassle of getting cfw

I've never seen that system he was playing and I really want one however I have sun lynx before but not irl only on you tube

i recently got a gamegear but the silly pratt left the batteries in and they leaked everywhere

@liamh1982 yeah your right but CFW is much more fun when i buy a video game from the shop i just rip it and but it on my memory card so i dont have to keep changing UMDS plus millions of homebrew any what you think of the psp vita think they will make a CFW for it

Did you not like the standard gmenu2x frontend for dingux? The old dmenu is pretty much abandoned.

@lakepalmer It's a very good little system for emulation. I've been having loads of fun playing AVP on it :-) . Have you heard of the YINLIPS Android Game Console? It's an android based emu system that looks like a PS VITA. Wouldn't mind getting one of those!

Be careful with those action replay things and handhelds, I used one for the GameBoy Color years ago, trying to get the full set of Pokemon (:P), but all it did was wipe my game save file lol

How was the clear AR fixed? I believe mines not working

i tryed to fix my DS as the hinge cracked and the ribbon cable made the screen change colour i tryed to replace the case but the sound cable wont go under the cartrige slot i did think about heating up the solidered points and lifting it up and connecting it that way but gave up in the end :(

hey do you know if there are replaceable touch screens for the ds lite? I got some water damage and It kinda screwed up the touch screen

I've got one of those silver gba/ds cheat cart things, I haven't been able to get mine to work for ages either, I know it used to but now as you say it gives you an error message, did you ever figure out how to get it working again?
