A viewer sent this in for me to fix. One of the channels is messed up. Pretty simple fix. Nice inexpensive piece of equipment used in many places where audio needs to be massaged.
Nice repair - I was really surprised when you opened it up! I understand the 19 inch rack width (plus space for all the controls) but it looks like it could have been 1/4 the depth! Old HP gear is hard to beat - I have an HP 333A Distortion Analyzer that still works perfectly.
Do you have any idea what the 4 potmeters on the backpanel are for? Mine has a few dB difference between the both channels. Maybe these potmeters can solve that? Thanks.
I have the same compressor but mine has the problem, that it doesn't output any signal on channel 2 if the signal is too small. Channel 1 works like it should. If I increase the signal or the output with the output knob, the signal comes back. It's like an energy saving feature for an amplifier. Do you have any advice? Greetings from Germany
Thanks for watching. That sounds like it might be a bad op amp. Sometimes if a bad op amp is driven hard enough it can start to work but usually it will be distorted. That is just a guess.
I have an XLR with a small 680 ohm resistor connected between pins 2 and 3. Pin 2 is then led out to the high side or red side of the standard male dual binding post and pin 2 is connected to the black side. Pin 1, shield, is connected to black at the dual binding post. Sometimes it is necessary to lift the shield at the binding post end. I use a BNC to female binding post adaptor on the scope. Does that help? Thanks for watching.
@@AERVBlog Thanks for the info! Is pin 3 in the XLR conntected to the red or black binding post? You mention that it may be necessary to lift the shield. When would this be required?
Not sure if you guys gives a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Been binge watching with my gf these days =)
Hi, I recently got this compressor and it works fine and sounds really good but there is this annoying humming sound that the power supply is emitting. Do you have any idea of how to get rid of this annoying humming sound? It happens whenever it's turned on.
If you can hear an audible hum that is not coming from the audio out but from the case or unit itself I would check the transformer mounting screws. If the rest of the unit works well it is likely that something is loose but you can get an audible hum from a transformer if the unit is drawing too much current also but usually you would have other symptoms along with the hum. It could be a capacitor going bad too. I would check them all. Thanks for watching.
I had this issue before but I unplugged audio interface from mixer bus and hum went away. I found out my interface was poorly grounded then fixed it and now hum is gone
Thanks for showcasing the issues with this unit! i find the mdx2600 really usefull and affordable. So in order to prevent this common sort of failure, is a power conditioner the way to go? or are there any other considerations necessary? regards!
Conditioning or surge suppressors are never a bad thing but that only protects the power inputs for the most part. Your best bet is using best practices when you install the stuff. Avoid long runs. Long runs are just antennas after all. Shielded wires, read up on grounding practices. And balanced ins and outs only. No cheating and no temporaries, they have a nasty way of turning permanent . Thanks for watching.
I have a fair simple problem and I hope you can help me… I have this model from many years ago, still working fine as audio functions but when I turn it on it makes an annoying noise, like a subtle vibration from the transformer. Is there a way to make it silent?
How does one know if their unit is messed up?.. I'm getting a pre-own unit but the seller only says it's in working condition the last check.. I know this is a year old video but if you happen to read this, thank you.
Thanks for watching. When you get the unit check the outputs for hum or other weird noises without any inputs. Then check all the functions with audio going in. You can download a free function generator for your phone that will do fine. I use Keuwlsoft. Record the sweep output, 20Hz to 20KHz, into audacity and check the frequency analysis for how flat it is. Other than that special equipment would be needed. Let us know how it goes.
@@AERVBlog I've got anBehringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX 1600 that's having an issue. It's pretty much the same as the Composer Pro but it has a Dynamic Enhancer instead of a De-Esser. Anyway, mine developed an issue where it compresses but never releases; the gain reduction goes down but never comes back up. Any thoughts on where that failure might lie?
You ve found the misstake very fast. You are super elektronican. Sorry my English, i am german and doesnt speak with english people because i doesnt know English people. But i hear many videos in english language.
