Thanks a million for this. I seem to have the exact same issue. I didn’t know about the big capacitor holding a charge. I just did the same grounding technique & got a huge, loud spark & this is after I probed the fuse last night. I ‘m glad I was expecting it after watching your video or I might have had a heart attack.
Thanks Loyd! Mine are her, and Galaga. My Galaga is in the house but I don't have space inside for her. I'm in a 1 car shop so space is at a premium. I need a bigger shop so I can have a game area. After fixing her, I'm really torn now.Take care, G.
Wow, that was amazing. Great Work! Thought I would try to fix my Ms Pac Mac Monitor. After watching, i think I better opt for a pro or a full monitor replacement to a LCD.
Great Video! I have a G07 that Arch/sparks a little after i changed the FBT a couple of years ago, It has just been stored away and I assumed it was a faulty part.. Maybe my gap is to tight aswell and the FBT is all good! 👍
Great work. I'm currently working on my own Ms. Pac-Man. I was going to pull out the whole monitor but maybe I'll just pull the board like this. Question: when you are checking for residual charge, you keep the machine unplugged, right? Or is it plugged in but off? Thanks.
If you don't need to pull the monitor, don't I would say. It may be more of a pain, but the CRT is out of harms way for the most part. And YES, the machine is unplugged when dissipating any residual charge(s). Make sure you're grounding to the monitor chassis itself. If unclear, please do tons more research so you keep yourself safe. Good luck, G.
Question: I have a non working go7 board. I’ve replaced the caps and flyback. Should the anode of the flyback arc to ground if I just apply the a/c power to the board without hooking anything else up to it? I don’t have the Pac-Man machine handy I only have the board at the moment but the anode / suction cup is not arcing when on I power the board up.
A TV alignment tool set. This is not my set, but a link to something similar. Good luck, G. www.amazon.com/Philmore-Anti-Static-Alignment-Trimmer-63-910/dp/B01MXZGEXT/ref=sr_1_24?crid=2WS9HIIG9C9K5&keywords=tv+alignment+tool+kit&qid=1680081694&sprefix=tv+ali%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-24
Great video!!! I have this same monitor. Has vertical collapse. I have reflowed, recapped, change the D1138/Sd401... Still happening. Other suggestions?
If the orientation of the monitor is like as shown in the video- Ms. Pacman, Galaga, etc. Vertical is horizontal and Horizontal is vertical as far as adjustments. If yours is in this orientation, it sounds to me you need to adjust the horizontal width coil. Hope this helps, G.
Being Broken doesn't necessarily mean bad. But, replacing it is the next logical step. Find the spot in the video where I talk about the ferrite core in the coil. I believe it's towards the end. The replacement I used had one that was shorter and I couldn't fill up the screen. I put the old core in the new coil and it solved my problems. Hope this helps. Keep me posted and be very careful. G.
Do you have an email that I could have? I have a Midway Ms. Pacman that I'm having issues with however I have a few questions that you didn't hit on when it came to the monitor.
I do not Brian. You can shoot your questions here, but keep in mind I am no expert by any means. But, your questions may be picked up by those that are. G.
Bill- I'm really rusty so do your homework and take my words with a big grain of salt. The B+ voltage is DC voltage. The outlet from the wall is let's say it 110-120 AC. The power supply in the game converts that AC voltage and conditions it to DC voltage- then it feeds that to the monitor. I could be totally off base so again do your homework, G.
A flow chart I found on the web years ago Randy. Was that yours? If so, GREAT JOB!!! It certainly helped me identify, or narrow down, the problem I was having. Take care, G.
What I heard was gone after what I did to correct what I heard and saw. It works, but if you have a suggestion to make things better- let me know. Take care, G.
