I find it totally Amazing that the engineering of Caterpillar incorporated is so sophisticated as to allow this type of maintenance to be performed in the Dirt with essentially bent STICKS for tools. That it ever runs is a tribute to the engineering quality that went into it.
I support their efforts to do a good job, but I am very lucky indeed to live in a modern and progressive society where things are done in a better way. Just my luck I suppose.
The wrong way to do things, the sleeves would have benefited from equal pressure at the same time using a single screw and two bars of metal to force them in more evenly. Rings shouldn't be applied to the pistons dry. Should pay attention to your o rings and never Force ANYTHING. I saw the torque wrench out once, everything on that diesel should have been torqued to spec, as well as loctited to ensure the bolts don't back out, and pipe dope on any bolts that go through water passages if any. Yes they could benefit from better tools, but i think proper training would benefit them more.
I like these videos, BUT what these crews do is refurbish these engines. There is a world of difference between overhauling and rebuilding. This same project would cost BIG bucks at a CAT dealership where the mechanics are instructed to replace any component that doesn’t meet specifications. My guess is a complete rebuild of this engine at a CAT dealer would run more than $20,000 USD.
Amazing what they can do with the lime Ted tools and supplies it would take a fortune of sufisticated line of tools to do what they do with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers ! Great skills !
Бугеля коленвала и гайки гбц последним этапом протягивают соответствующим моментом(динамометрический ключ), обратите внимание те, кто ниже пишет про это
Putting the old slugs back in new liners?? Those slugs have already done so much work it’s false economy to reuse them, they’ll fail through the gudgeon pin and destroy the block at some point.
OF COURSE we’re a Caterpillar authorized remanufacturing facility! why would you even ask? these guys look like they know what they’re doing, but I doubt there’s a calibration certificate for that torque wrench…
These mechanics have problems ,they assemble the engine using irregular tightening sequence AND before the engine starts the mains bearings are already strained and such alters the engine oil pressure whats problem...desert mechanics😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤ but kudoos at least they are using the torque wrench for standard strengths ....from centre..diaonally and horizontally, such is inevitablekkkmm
You probably just didn't get that memo. Yeah, all industrial sized engine rebuilds are free now. /s You bozo, of course it's not free. There are thousands of US $$$ in parts alone.
Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much sealer!!! You clowns need a large caulking gun of sealer & double gasket everything! lol No matter, it will be back within a month if not sooner, smoking it's lungs out & rattling!!
I live in Orange County California most young people are total lazy and bums and do drugs all day and steal from Walmart how can you say anything bad about these guys😂
A torque wrench to these guys is a cheater pipe and a 200 pound man pushing down with all the muscle he got on the other end.........click....it's good
@@stusue9733 your correct, my correct and their correct are 3 different things. they have to keep this stuff running every day while we talk about it. I can overlook a 5 lbs/sq ft torque valuation differentials from feel to gauge and am much more impressed with them doing an entire engine rebuild in primitive conditions to say the least.
@@ChuckHickl Where did I say I wasn't impressed? It was pointed out that they weren't using the torque correctly and you came out with this "westnerner" garage. I have no idea what a lbs/sq ft is, perhaps you mean ft-lb? If you think they got within 5ft-lbs I have a bridge you might like to buy. It's one thing when they have to make do because they don't have the correct tool, it's something else when they have the correct tool but don't use it correctly.
