Seems like torque wrenches are unheard of in that country. Loved the way he was blowing that sand all over including into the open ports of the injector rail. Having worked on engines for over 40 years that place is scary.
I am sure that Cummings would like this video for training purposes. of how NOT TO REBUILD an engine. No honing the cylinders and checking for taper, regrinding the crank as wear marks are clearly visible , and the state of the art valve grinder , finally torqueing down the head bolts. If you don't have the right equipment and experience to do the job correctly to factory standards then go find a job in a rice paddy. Sure glad this engine is not used of an aircraft.
I like how these people don’t protect their feet. Rubber shoes! Tuque wrenches truly amazing tools. I’m impressed with these people ability to work together to get it done.
@@amazingrestorations1117he was being sarcastic, not complementary. Oh well what do you expect from a 3rd world country. Have a care for your environment, even if nobody else does.
@@amazingrestorations1117 Crap!! Flowing direct into the Mekong and you couldn't care less. Since when does there grow trees and bushes in a waist water pond? And roots from the bushes on the other side ? But lying and deceiving has always been your best side .. Goonie
A great example on how not to dismantle and build an engine , even with limited tools and equipment , mechanical sense and ability are shocking , I predict an early demise for that motor , made me cringe .😟
I would love to know what brand of diesel engine that is. Looks like a very well made engine and these guys really make all of this look easy. Great video guys!
How can you put rod and main bearing caps on and not torque them? Cylinder head bolts also need a specific torque sequence done to keep the head from warping. I'd love to know how long this engine will run after this rebuild.
Absolutely no assembly lube, no proper torque specs. Those main bearings aren’t gonna last very long. That’s not to mention all the other really bad ideas that I noticed.
It looks suspiciously after a Mitsubishi Fuso 8DC9 engine. However: there is usually the brand embossed on the rocker covers. That's a tough part of kit. No need for torque wrenches: tighten it as hard as possible with a hand tool will do.
As somebody who used to grind crankshafts, I've seen many simply put back in, that in videos like this really needed to be taken down to the next size down. Many rebuilds look good in these videos, but these engines will fail again soon.
Torque callibrated biceps and laser tolerence eyeballs. Amazing but if it works it works. At least they reground the valve seats, replaced the cylinder block linings, piston rings ,injectors and a complete set of gaskets.
@@scottyjones27I suggest you read my comment properly. If you can't understand that I was expressing my admiration for the work they do, with the tools that they have and under those drastic working conditions then that's your problem. By the way the channel thanked me for the comment.
Don'tcha love how they seated the valves, polished the crankshaft bearing journals and honed the cylinders? Really high tech there!!!!! Gotta love the torque wrench on the main bearing cap bolts too.
I get it, work with what you have and make do. Not everyone has the nicest tools and spray wash cabinets, boring bars, and Sunnen hones. But in all the videos I see of these rebuilds in Asian countries and in the Pakistani Truck channel where they rebuilt engines too, it’s never one guy carefully assembling the engine. It’s always like 3 or more people just attacking it and putting it together as fast as possible. You spent the time to wash it all by hand and scrub it super clean, which I must commend you cause it appears like you did a good job. Hopefully you brushed all the oil galleys off camera to clean and clear them out 😉. Why not take a little time and let one man, your best and most knowledgeable man, do the assembly? Mistakes happen when you rush and 3 people can’t always know/remember what the other guy has or hasn’t done! For that matter, just to give a guy some space, heck the one guy was climbing up all under the dudes armpit to put a bolt in, 🤦♂️. That’s the one thing I have to have when I’m rebuilding engines, space and nobody yaping around me. I need to concentrate on the task at hand! But for the most part, you guys did a good job. You guys knew how to take it apart and put it back together, so I’m sure you know you should be torquing bolts to spec and doing other things “by the book”, but we also know as mechanics how to just “get it done, and make it run” with whatever we have on hand! 👍🏻
Asian's and Pakistan's must have built in torque wrenches in their arms !!! And they all have that special container of solvent that cleans everything !
A “flooded” engine? That and that much sand in the intake suggests a marine engine that was in sunk boat. After that rebuilt, I’d be pretty concerned about reliability back in a boat.
Who needs a torque wrench, its tight enough. Lets just wash all this oil and dirt into the ditch over there and no need to set valve clearances either. What was that diesel fuel on the main bearings, no wonder it look a little hard to turn. No need to lube the cam either lets just slide that on in there. We paint it and send it. It will be all right.
It always amazes me watching these types of video's - dudes rebuilding stuff in the dirt with minimal tools. If the goal was to get the thing running you probably succeeded however I would be curious to know how long this thing ran for before something detonated. BTW not sure what's so "Super" about this engine...
Still waiting for what happens next, that engine looks like a torque monster, but it was still being assembled before the video ended. The other engines looked nice too.
I didn't see these guys use one bore gauge, micrometer or torque wrench. Also why the hell reuse the bearings? This thing was under water at some point and the wise thing to do is replace all of the wear parts, not just the rings and sleeves, which you did not show but I hope were pre-honed to spec. This isn't even close to a pro rebuild! I predict problems in your future. Still, I liked the home-brew ring and spring compressors.
notice they never heavily oiled up any internals ,some a light oil ,heavy oiled is better for first start up,when we used to strip down diesel motors all parts got a lot of oil during rebuild,we would pour oil over rocker gear before putting covers back on
This is what you call a sketchy rebuild. I don’t think in my 51 years I have ever seen an engine rebuild like this. Even a wonder bar torque wrench would have been better and perhaps a torque pattern.
New style torque specification. Turn till the veins pop in your arm then a 1/2 turn more! And then theres how to mill the head deck. Drag it on the metal plate several times. I can't believe it would run for too long
😄🤣😄🤣yes best Viet style .. and telling us that the water in the back ground at 31:46 is a waist water pond .. with trees and bushes growing there and roots from same on the other side reaching the water/oil/petrol/degreaser in there ...
Nothing kept in order. I like the way they compressed the valve springs to drop the collets back in. What is it that happened next, that we were not supposed to believe ? That they painted it green ? or that they ended the video without letting us hear it run ? I recommend watching this on 2x speed. Great job guys. I hope you didnt have any bits left over :)
Da miedo ver esto. Es una descripción gráfica de como tirar el dinero. Vertidos a la naturaleza, holguras en bielas segmentos de varios pistones cruzados nunca vieron una dinamométrica...... Ke locura. Pero eso si quedo bien pintado
No test run...that sucks. Like a virgin that leads you down the garden path and you can't even cop a feel. BTW. Who needs a torque wrench when you've got impact drivers anyhow. Right?! Just sayin'...
what happens next... he painted it green.... nothing spec'd just air gun it on... love the precession honing on cylinders... this engine will leak like a sink strainer within 3 months under load heat and cool... imagine ordering a new crate engine and this is what they would send... LOL...
Aaaarggh, the cam lobes are getting a good hammering being literally rammed into the can bearings, did appear to be any decent lube on the lobes either. A good lesson in the art of metal assembly butchery!
