Thanks for the video. I was looking for a replacement of a loose socket, and this shows how they can be moved / repaired. Put this in your knowledge base - I saw a post about water dripping on the GEM but not from the windshield. If the cab lights or any other breach of the roof is not well sealed, water will travel down the pillar and end up right over the GEM. It was raining today when I was looking at the fuse box socket and the water was dripping, but not from the windshield - was from the cab lights not being well sealed. Will get the sealant out soon as the sun comes out!

Thanks for showing how to remove the fuse sockets. I just fixed a high beam issue by re-tensioning two if them.

Outstanding video Bayou, and thanks so much! I was hoping to see the disassembly of the faulty fusebox to discover what the actual culprit was. Likely heavy corrosion. I've got corrosion on my 2004 F150 fusebox and shall replace it, however, the only way to can see to separate the plastic bodies is to either Dremel the case or heat (and/or cut) the two male embedded bolts, Thanks again!

Hey Bud. Thanks for taking the time to comment it is greatly appreciated. You may already know that the windshields on these trucks are pron to leaking right on top of the fuse box. There are like 6 layers of flat bars that go from the fuse location to its corresponding tab where the master plugs go on. That green corrosion bridges between bars and does all kinds of crazy trouble. I recently ordered a reman fuse box for one of my 7.3 projects and got to talking with the vendor. He said you can drimmel off the rivet bolts and split the bottom but to see how the corrosion is but you will never get it back together and have it right. Just FYI. So I just ordered one and cloned it like my video. Best of luck on your project and again I appreciate you taking time out of your day for my channel.

@@bayoudiesel I got ambitious yesterday and yes, used a Dremel to grind off the mushroom head of each bolt, then used a pin punch and drove them straight out. Separating the six insulated layers of circuit traces requires marking each layer directionally and using finesse. The corrosion actually etched and deteriorated through several metallic circuit traces. If a replacement fusebox wasn't available, I suppose I could 'bridge' across the 'open' traces with 1/32" / 1/64" thick brass strips and silver solder, but why bother for < $100. Thanks again Bayou. Keep those great instructional video's coming! great

@@chargerman2116 Thanks for the feed back on what ya found inside the fuse box. If ya have any picks send them my way and I can put them on the channel if that ok.

@@bayoudiesel - absolutely with pics. Your video saved me hundred's of dollars in labor fees. I was able to locally procure another fusebox for $50. I used my existing GEM (after resoldering some questionable solder joints), reprogrammed per your great video and reinstalled (w/ much dielectric grease). Very interesting because the replacement fusebox resolved all the electrical gremlins, except I still had no interior courtesy & underhood lights. After several hours of operation, they now work! The only thing I can come up with is the system may had needed to 'learn' from the reset. Do I send pictures to your E-mail or simply post right here and you select and post onto your channel? Thanks again.

@@chargerman2116 If you would like to send me some pics of your fuse box corrosion I would be happy to try to get them in another video to help others understand whats going on in there. I only found one video that showed the internals. You can email them to bayoudieseltrucks@gmail.com

Hi! I can't find the double female socket anywhere, Where did you buy it?

If you are referring to the ones internal to the fuse box I either borrow one from an unused circuit or I have a fuse box that’s bad that I can rob parts off of. I’d grab some at the junk yard from time to time as well.

I went out to my truck and the blower motor was running .. Started truck and it shifted hard then stopped shifting into drive.. also my blinkers worked with key out of ignition . Someone told me my gem module was bad .. So I got a new gem and reinstalled the old fuseblock. One thing I noticed was green corrosion around the lower pins on the fuse block.... Then after reinstalling it I drove around the block once and everything worked then my passenger door lock was weak then the starter clicked in the start position and my battery had 12.7 volts ... Then I tried to start again and it started .. then on restart it clicked again So I am assuming the fuse-block is now my culprit and cause a voltage loss and weird issues . The starting issues began after removing the fuseblock and reinstalling it... I did click the tabs and tried to open it but chickened out and reclicked it closed . I may have loosened or worsened the condition internally ... So I ordered a new fuseblock. I had my truck 22 years and electrical is my weakpoint in automotive repair

Couple of thoughts on ur trouble. The trucks are prone for water dripping onto gem and fuse box from windshield. May want to check into that. When ever it seem like u have ghosts in the machine causing all kinds of strange electrical problems it’s most likely gem or fuse box. The tabs on the fuse side of the box will only get u into the area of the female connectors which allows u to add or remove circuits. Like in my cloning fuse box video. If u get one with more or less fuse slots than ur old one u can relocate the females to clone ur old one. Take a pic so u know what circuits are used in ur truck. I agree, sounds like new fuse box time. I’ve had good luck with refurbished ones. Finally, the only way to get into the area of corrosion is to drill or grind out the 2 rivet nuts that hold on the 2 master plugs but if this is done u probably won’t be able to get it back together and have it right. Hope this helps.

I’m pretty sure I have that in another video. Probably on the “tool truck” play list. Is there any questions I can answer for ya on that? It’s not hard. Hit me back if u need me to talk ya through it

@@bayoudiesel hello I’m searching for info I just purchased a 2001 f350 7.3 runs great but today it rained buckets I’m thinking I have a leak going into fuse box was driving home had a beep a couple times coming from fuse box area people say it’s for air bag drove half hour home everything working fine shut truck off had dinner went out to look see if I seen any water dripping but none . Did have some on floor mats and could hear odd humming noise and the OD light on shifter was ever so lightly flickering no key in. And no other lights on so I started truck runs fine no odd lights turn off ignition get the overdrive light very light flicker and light buzzing so I unhooked both battery’s started searching your video is bar far the most detailed and was wandering if any way u could help me figure this out thanks in advance

Is there anyway to prevent this? How can you figure out if its that issue or gem module
@bayoudiesel

Water and/or corrosion in the fuse box causes weird electrical stuff to happen. Such as lights coming on, horn blowing etc… ghosts in the machine if you will. This is generally caused from water leaking in from the windshield and dripping on the gem/fuse box sense they are mounted on top of one another in 99-02. If it’s just water and corrosion hasn’t started yet the issue seem to clear up when it dries. The only trip I’ve seen is someone putting a piece of plastic cut from a coolant jug and rigging it on top of the fuse box and the pcm to shed any water.

@@bayoudiesel im hoping i can just replace the actuator on the one side , but i think you might be right since the radio doesnt work either…..idk…ill post you back to see what happens….i dont know a thing about this truck. I inherited it after my in-laws passed away and nobody wanted it despite the low mileage. The only thing they used it for was the farm…so it didnt leave much

A lot of possibilities for bad connections; bad design. The 92-93 is simpler.
