Thank you very much for this repairing video. I found a HK Soundstick II discarded. The speakers rubber surround were all toasted. I just ordered 8 tweeters for the replacement. I hope it can fire up later after I do the swap.
@@Stayingfrostee use tiny dabs of clear caulking like dap all purpose acrylic latex caulk plus silicone in clear. it will hold but still be removable for future repairs. do not use super glue, it will melt the two halves together and you may crack or break them if you try pulling them apart again.
Friend i am from India , and facing the same issue now . Have few question . how is the quality of these speakers ? Also you mentioned 31mm so does only this link provides 31mm as i can see 24 mm and 28 mm available on Aliexpress
I found the drivers online, but I just CAN'T pry the sticks apart to work on them! Had them since they came out in 2001 or 2001, but one of the tweeters had come loose and was vibrating annoyingly. Scoring the seam to loosen the housing did nothing, these babies are stuck together too well. IF ANYONE knows how to open these up when they don't cooperate as they did on this video, I'd love to hear. I've put them aside for now and bought Soundsticks 4 on sale, much more expensive than a replacement tweeter which would have been satisfactory. I'm hanging on to the originals and hoping someday I can recondition them, if I can ever get them open!
Right.. I’m just going to say, you are a HERO!! My cat dislodged one of the speakers in 2014 and has been loose since, I was told by HK you wouldn’t be able to open them to put the speaker back into the clip, the buzz drives me crazy, I’m off to get some superglue :)
Hello there! I also bought something similar but the difference in sound quality with originals is... Quite a bit. Can anyone suggest a good part to replace? I see endless in aliexpress... Which are the specs of those speakers (size / watt / ohm)? Thanks for sharing this video :)
Hey i’m getting the same issue like you but my soundstick also didn’t make any sound. I wonder if my speaker muted beacause of this problem right? Hope you reply. Thks very much
Nicely Done. I thought maybe this video could solve my speaker problems because after not using these speakers for over a year the speakers sounded terrible and one was pushing about half volume. The membranes look fine looking from outside the speakers. I decided maybe if I separated the plastic of the speakers by scoring along the sides of the 2 speakers I could get a better look see. After scoring of over 5 min. on one speaker with no luck I felt maybe I was just scoring plastic and not the glue holding the speakers together. A bit frustrating :) Any thought about the sound/ scoring problem would be appreciate.
It does sound like you are scoring the plastic. Try using a small flathead screwdriver and jam it in the slit where the 2 plastic meet and give it a twist. Repeat along the slit until the 1 parts separate. Hope this works!
@@Area73x Thanks. I was actually having fun after I was able to separate the casing :) I changed the tweeters and cleaned the connecters , now I have sound. The music from the sound sticks sound a bit anemic, almost like missing any mid @ low end. I checked the Sub knob, it works but its output sound seems to go from 0-20% from where it was 0-100- % . I'm not sure if any of the electrons or power connections are not functioning at 100% or if the 320-0002-000 subwoofer needs replacing. Have you any insight if the 320-002-000 ITS-225C is replaceable ? Any thoughts would be appreciative.
@@deadline7610 Glad to hear that there's progress. I've not worked on the subwoofer but I feel that it should be replaceable.Try to see if there's any replacement parts from AliExpress. Additionally, I'd also try to disconnect the wires from the new tweeters and reconnect them again to rule out the possibility of a poor connection. This is what I'd do to approach the problem. Sorry, but no real experience to share for this. Hope this helps!
Haha, no need to be so dramatic. Yes, I am guilty of not posting as frequently as I used to. Hopefully next year this time, I’ll be in a better position to post more videos. Meanwhile, do check out GreebleTech on Instagram, it’s my 3D printing account. :)
The time gap between a brand new speaker and the replaced speaker was too large to compare. But I'm still using this repaired speaker and they sound great to me.
I think you can try stripping the wire and solder it back. If you don't have access to a soldering iron, you can try stripping the wire and glue it on with super glue.
It's in the description. :) www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002454861252.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.260f7ac6rtxvPj&algo_pvid=8c2491e0-bf1b-403c-a2bd-f24bb305dd5f&algo_exp_id=8c2491e0-bf1b-403c-a2bd-f24bb305dd5f-3&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000020719032760%22%7D
Can this be used on soundsticks 4? I bought an soundsticks 4 online in Indonesia... and it turned out to be a defect where one of the satellites has a small sound, and the seller's shop didn't want to accept the complaints. and I intend to fix it myself..
I can’t say for sure since I don’t have the Sound Sticks 4. Since you are going to repair it yourself, I recommend taking the measures of your speakers and compare it with the link I provided. Hope it works for you.

I did consider that. However, I can't find one that I am confident enough that will work, instead, I came across the whole tweeter instead. Do share with us if you managed to replace just the rubber ring.
Hi there. I’d try to see if there’s any loose wirings along the faulty speaker. Assuming nothing was damaged, you can try to clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol. Hope that works. Good luck!
@@Area73x Which contacts are you referring to here!? Are you talking about the contacts the indivual 4 speakers inside the clear casing? I have examined the connection near the subwoofer and they all seem ok. Is it possible to replace the module that BOTH speakers are connected to?
The Speaker that does NOT play a sound is the ONE with the Volume tabs (Plus and Minus ). And these tabs work where I can MUTE and UnMute the entire sound! This tells me that the wiring connection to this speaker is OK, but somehow still no sound comes out of the actual speakers ! Could it be that the individual speakers have gone bad!? But they were working fine 2 weeks ago. It is possible to re-set the controller board of the Soundstick 2?!
For the speaker with volume control, there is a lighter grey wire and a darker grey wire. I can’t remember which wire connects with the volume plus button and which wire connects with the volume minus button. Can anyone help me please?
Hi there ! I can’t press the power button on the central speaker anymore (the one used to change the bass), do you know how I could replace and/or repair it ? Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
I haven't tried it myself, but I think the screws to disassemble is hidden under the rubber feet. If the sub woofer's construction is anything like its satellite speakers, it should be very repairable. Good luck!
There's a little bit of glue holding the halves together. You'll need to pry it gently and later on use a dab of glue to reassemble it. Hope this helps!
@@Area73x Success! Mine was pretty strongly glued and the casing took a little more damage than I'd wished, but I managed it in the end. Works fine again. Thanks again!
Hi @Area73, thanks for posting. Question: how difficult was it to remove the driver speaker from the Soundstick housing? I have a Soundstick I'm trying to replace the drivers on, and the 4 clips holding in each speaker seems difficult to unclip. Thanks.
Hi Justin, yea they are quite stiff and it felt like they were going to snap if I pull too hard. I used my nails to slowly pry apart the clips. Once it had cleared the "catch", I stopped and just tried to wiggle it out. Hope it helps!
Did you tried of the rubber ring to buy from Aliexpress and paste it on the existing original speakers because buying a new speaker will make our original speaker a waste . please let me know
I did consider. But in the end I decided not to because I am not very confident of getting the correct size due to the lack of repairing documentation online. Do let me know if you managed to change just the membrane alone. While I was doing my repair, the membrane looks quite hard to replace just based on my observation.
Hey thanks so much for this. How was the sound quality with the replacement drivers? If the original speakers were a 10/10, how would you rate the sound of these?
Hey, Daryl! Honestly, I can't really tell how did the replacement drivers sound because the original ones deteriorated over a span of time. I'm also not an audiophile so I don't know what I am hearing is good or not. Nevertheless, I think they sound good enough, and I am just happy to give it a new lease of life. Maybe a 8/10 if I were to rate it as a generic pair of speakers. Hope this helps!
@@Area73x thank you so much! I tried looking for the drivers here in India. But can't seem to find them. Even the link you posted seems to be a dead end. Maybe they've discontinued.
