I can’t begin to thank you for this whole series. You have taught me so much about a Jaguar XK8 I bought on a whim 2 years ago knowing nothing about it, other than it is expensive to fix. I recently wrote an article for British Marque called “How a Cat Landed in My Lap”. I will send you a copy when it is published as you are mentioned in it! Keep sending your wonderful videos on the Jaguar XK8!

Just subscribed after breaking off my osf abs sensor and looking for fix. I will be checking your channel in future before embarking on any other issues to fix as I may not of needed to be removing it in the first place had I tested it properly as you demonstrated.

Hello John. I diagnosed this issue with an icarsoft code reader which identified the near side sensor. To remove the sensor I screwed a large ish diameter screw into the sensor and pulled it out with a claw hammer. 😉

Another great video. Next time I am over there I will have to take a drive and look for your flag. I will have to keep an eye out for your video on removing the door panel. The one on my drivers side has a loose connector on the top corner. Procrastinating on taking it off and replacing connectors, so I will wait until you do it.
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 4 года назад
Its not too bad a job once you know where all the screws and clips are. But a good idea to have some spare clips on hand as removing the panel generally kills a few more clips than just the one you are trying to replace.

Wow what a pain getting that sensor out! Great video, my car exhibited similar warnings after a very wet drive and has disappeared since so I think the sensor must have got moisture in it, the issue I’ve got now though is that I tried to remove the sensor but the retaining bolt sheared!!! Doesn’t look like it will just fall out though based on this 🤣🤣

I had my ABS motor rebuilt many years ago with great results. I live in Wisconsin, USA and drive my XK8 in winter so the ABS gets a regular workout. Those in milder climates should find gravel and exercise their system, the motor can seize from lack of use...

I started receiving Cruise Control Not Available, DSC ABS System Fault warning on my dashboard. I booked the car into a local Jag garage & they diagnosed a front ABS wheel speed sensor fault. After fitting a new sensor the fault code remained. WARNING! The ABS wheel speed sensor fitted was the wrong one! Part no. LJA2226AA which fits all XK8, XKR 4.0 Models, 1996 to 2003. However, all later models were fitted with a new part no. XR822753F. This part covers all VIN no's. from A30645 to end of range. My XK8 is a 2004 4.2 & the garage were completely unaware of this!

Not yet but you are right its an easy mechanical solution. I will add it to the list The RHD is marginally easier. for the obvious reason of it being a British car. the linkage is very straight forward. LHD look a little less obvious but its still easy

The 4.2 cars are hall affect sensors. They are a different shape and part number. Rear sensors throw a gearbox fault p0701, along with the C1165 for rear right C1155 Rear Left.

Hi John, another great vid thanks. Just a quick question, what is the paint colour name for your brake calipers please, as thinking of doing the same to mine. Andrew
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 4 года назад
Its powder coating Oak tree3. so the colour is just High gloss solid red from electro static magic. the powder cost £4 but you would have to spend another £200 to set yourself up with the required kit. Sorry😔. However I genuinely have a video showing my set up if you are still keen. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kj56MgSwcm0.html If you decide to stick to paint. Hi, very interesting and informative video. I have a 2004 model and last summer it started to have the DSC fault light coming on followed shortly afterwards by the ABS warning light. I found by turning the engine and turning it back on the fault would clear and the ABS light would go off. However, as the season progressed the DSC + ABS light came on more frequently and didn’t clear by engine switch off/on. Last autumn the fault was isolated to the front o/s hub. New harness fitted. Fault returned about 3 weeks later. New hub sensor fitted November, fault returned after 1 week. Fault intermittent since then. Any ideas on next steps would be appreciated. Note when car is not in use battery connected to trickle charger. Battery Is about 18 months old. Thanks
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 3 месяца назад
I would typically say its the Battery but doesn't sound likely in your circumstances. Try the resistance in your battery earth lead when you move it. If it varies, replace the lead. if this is not it. disconnect the alarm sounder in the front of the right wheel arch. If neither of these resolves the issue then you may have a genuine fault on your ABS motor. The fault is typically just a dry joint on the two supply leads into the motor's control box.

John, brilliant videos. My asc sensor is stuck as was yours. On reflection is there an easier way to remove the sensor as it has been suggested, it may be easier to remove the reluctor wheel and hammer the sensor out from the magnetic end. What are your views. Regards John.
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 3 года назад
Its possible that may work better John. Ive also seen suggestions from other subscribers including. I should have melted it out with a blow lamp🤔, And drill 6 mm hole and then pull it out using a large socket, a washer and a long 6mm bolt in a similar way that you might pull out a suspension bush👍

I have the ABS/traction control fault (99XKR) that pops up at times. Had to convince the WOF/MOT guy here in NZ a few days ago it wasn't a reason to fail it. I said that I bet the fault would be gone by the time I drove it out. It was so I emailed a photo of the dash to him as I drove off. I haven't investigated out where the fault is yet but thanks to your videos, know where to look now. We don't have salted roads, I can see corrosion is probably the biggest cause but so are muddy country roads it seems.

No matter where we live in the world, there is always an element of the environment that damages our toys. The dryest areas with clean well ironed roads tend to go hand in hand with UV damage to dashboards and paint laquer😁

@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 4 года назад
Hi Joseph👍 I used a full can of 'WD40 specialist penetrant' and one of Halfords 'shock and unlock' (A freeze based release agent) when I did the brake rebuild. Nothing touched it. I think a small amount of corrosion in the I.D. of the hole combined with a swelling caused when moisture entered the sensor and set off internal corrosion. The combo made it feel like the sensor was 1mm bigger than the hole! In fairness I did not try the blow lamp!
