Ok, back again working on the glove box of an Audi A4 or B7, a 2007 model in this case, and the issue this time is that the $100+ latch has broken. Its the third time through for the removal, and can now show how to do it without damage to the electric lock actuator connection. The primary job here is to transfer the lock cylinder.

For the people that don’t have a lock: Theres a little holding clip under the latch/handle that holds the assembly inside the glovebox. You will see a little cutout when you hold a flashlight on the inside of the handle. Push back whats inside and wiggle it a little. It wil come out.

Take the side panel off (available once the door is open). You can then take a flat screwdriver and push the right side catch to release it. The door should spring open. If you have ever replaced a fuse, the side panel on the passenger side is a mirror image of the one hiding fuses.

A couple of comments Part number for latch from audiusaoemparts.com 8H1-857-131-8C1 (Mine is 2009 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro Carbiolet) Second, getting the pins out of the hinges (to removed glove box door) was a nightmare. Actually had to drill through plastic on the back side of one of the pins to get access to tap it out. Once out, appears they are GLUED in at the very distant ends of the pin. Removed glue with acetone, greased them with small amount lithium grease. Slid right back in and then found them much easier to remove using screwdriver and hammer as pictured in video. Lastly, getting the old latch out took A LOT OF FORCEFUL HAMMERING with deep 10mm socket placed over the latch mechanism from the inside then pounding away with a hammer for 15-20 minutes (yes I did removed the screw securing it from the side of the glove box; which is a Torx 20 by the way). "Just push on the latch and it comes out" did not work for me. Once out, a breeze to reinstall new latch mechanism (be sure to follow video instructions regarding removing lock cylinder from old latch....if yours is equipped with a lock). Reinstalling the glove box/air back was a bit of a bear with no help to hold it in place. Once I had 2 bolts in it held in place and the rest of the bolts were easy.

Wow. Different model year sure did a number on the job. Too bad Audi that year STILL seems to have the same issue!!

is this the same process for the 04 a4? the b6 version?

basically, i dont think i have any electronic actuator to deal with... im curious if basically it is just the single screw on the side that holds the latch in? if so i should be able to just unscrew that screw and remove the latch, replace the lock similar to you and then reinstall without the clamp u used

I believe there would still be the arm connected that activates the two "hooks", one on either end. But I have not taken apart a B6 version.

Don't understand the question. If there's no lock, why do you need to get it out?? Or are you trying to get the latch out?

In other words, the glove box door does not use a key? Are you talking about the cover seen at 55 seconds? Truly sorry, but your terminology is very confusing.

sorry, at the time of writing i was multitasking... You are correct the glovebox doesn't use a key and i do mean the cover at 55 seconds. i have the screw on the side and thats all

Very helpful video. Can you comment on how hard a force is needed to push out the piece mentioned here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TTAiI25rZgs.html? I tried to push it with a nail setter by hand and it didn't budge. The pointy head of the nail setter kept slipping away from the center.

Don't believe it took too much, but DO remember that something need to be behind the arm or the force is dissipated. You can see what I did in this vid (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3p-mAycNEEU.html), but you'll also discover that I broke it! Be more careful than me!
