Love this old hands tips and tricks. Thank you sir....I'm about to go and hammer the yolk in the correct position to get the cap to come off. I'm doing this on the side of the road! Never a dull moment in trucking!
Good video. Look at the end of your u joints. The caps are not supposed to come off that easy and that broken one that came from the yoke at the carrier bearing good call on changing the carrier bearing that would be a huge issue in a short time. If you have the u joints can you do a close up on them to see the wear patterns on where the pin bearings ride? Slide a cap in the yoke if you can wiggle the cap the yoke holder has been polished, and needs to be replaced. If your getting a vibration from the rear thru the seat or transmission shifter in the higher range, the yokes and the slip yoke can be the culprits . The vibration is light like a bee hive humming. I changed my carrier bearing thinking that was it being like yours, a little worn. The drive shafts yokes where tight on the u joint caps, the device yokes where polished out on rear, trans and the slip yoke at the carrier bearing. Our Trks are old and the parts are worn. Thanks for putting your repair video's out. They are a huge help on things to look for, and a way to get it done. Very few take the time to put the honest effort to do the repair work too their Trk.It has been a huge help for me in my short trucking career.
To hold the driveline up, I use ratchet straps from Walmart. 4 for $20. The orange ones with the hooks they work really well. I also use them to help lower the Driveline. kind of like a pulley
Well the u joint ought to be tight without that play that his had. Also when he took the caps off and he had the plate break off of the cap that's an automatic replacement. If you put that back the plate is held steady by the bolts but the cap will spin under it because it broke loose. If it does that it will widen the hole in the yoke and it'll cause some sort of driveline related failure, whether it makes it snap the ears off the yoke or makes the u joint fail or what have you.
Sorry I don't remember, I usually tell that info in the video if I don't forget. If you're going to do your own work at home, you need a full set of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2". and 3/4 drive sockets, and impacts to match. I'll do a video on my tools tomorrow it I remember to. Thanks for watching.
@@57bagre it just so happens I was stuck, couldn't get those caps too move .. came in for a lunch break found this video , went out used a hammer and I 20 mins shaft ,bearing, and yolk was on the ground ... thanks again frustration gone ...
I don't remember on that video but I have been using a Harbor Freight Earthquake lately when I use air tools. I have gone to the Milwaukee battery tools when I have room to use them (they're a little bigger and heavier but stronger and no air hose) Here's a link to the Earthquake air wrench. www.harborfreight.com/12-in-composite-xtreme-torque-air-impact-wrench-62891.html?_br_psugg_q=air+impact+wrenches
