I never put grease in the caps before installing, is that something you recommend?

I believe you did this just in time....any longer it would have come apart over the road

I would like to replace mine from same spot didn't know it just comes out thought there was some pressing out and in to do

Lol your driveshaft is worn out.. you're supposed to press the 2 caps on and you just put them in like it's nothing

No Loctitie? Loctite does several things. First, it is a thread glue preventing a fastener loosening and also a sealant preventing water and salts or other bad stuff getting in and corroding the threads making it very difficult to remove later.
