Replace power aerial in VY Commodore 

Materials required: 1. New antenna 2. Spanners 3. Screwdriver 4. Packet of band-aids

That was SO helpful! Was about to do the job, but thought, is there a video on how to replace the aerial on a VX/VY Commodore? Sure enough! "Mongrel bastard..." haha.

Appreciate the White table cloth to help distinguish the small parts, showing us the tricky steps and show what to watch out for, the decent lighting even though the day was turning grey, and the just amount of talking (ie not much). Me thinks I will just replace the whole unit from eBay since mine aierial shaft is bent. Cheers for the up load!

Thanks for the feedback - My first youtube video attempt - I couldn't find a video for what i needed to know so i figured others might have the same issue - I'll go back have a look at the original video and see if I have any footage for how the shroud clips in and if I can find something that might help I’ll add a post. I’m not sure if you can pop it from the top or have to take the wheel guard out .

awsome -just needed to know how they came out because ive had mine replaced so many times the rubber on the 1/4 was looking a bit drab, needs replaceing but cant do without removing the whole thing. thnxs !

not sure what the problem is with my antenna , my vz usually retracts down when car is turned off, so just noticed it didnt retract? what would this be from?

hi my vz aireal is stuffed and makes a clunking noise i dont want to take the aireal out and fix i just want to know which wire to unplug and where to make it a manual one without the noise can you help thanks

If I cut myself when wrenching my own car I'd always f up a storm. You're so calm. I have a friend who used to punch his car when things went bad as they often do when wrenching your own car.

I hav a dodgy looking arial rubber, will i hav 2 pull the whole arial out to replace the rubber?

Calais models have height adjustable power so apparently I just wasted $60 on a commodore aerial that works differently apparently. I put it in an it goes up and won't come down ,something to do with bcm module controlling the height

I know the feeling , I've now got a front passenger doorlock not working and setting off the alarm when you use the remote, and the driver side power window also not working . I'm pretty sure I'll need to remove both door front door panels which I expect to be a bit of a challenge.

Is this similar to a vs commodore i'm having trouble allocating the location of the inner bold for the aerial motor attachment

Took my head unit out re installed it now aerial not working sounds like no power

once they start making that noise they r pretty much finished -i had minesupplied & installed by an auto elect for $130AUD worth it i think!

This job is a total pain,the black plastic screws that hold the inner guard plastic I just drill out and replace $10 for 100 on eBay better than spending an hour trying to get the old shit out.when I unbolt the antenna I take the plastic Pannell out from the passenger footwell and tie a string to the antenna cable then go and pull the antenna out then use the string to pull the new antenna cable through the body of the car to the inside so I don't have to take out the computer or anything else it makes it a bit easier.

A new Repco unit $325.00 and a genuine Holden unit $175.00 and that would have to be a first time ever Holden is cheaper than Repco.

I just tried this for a VT.. Didnt work. I had to replace EVERY pin, and the air wasn't pushing the aerial up at all. big let down!! it takes the good part of a whole day to do, after replacing everything that is needed. nearly better off taking it to a mechanics and paying for it. haha
