Well you’ve given me the confidence to have a crack at it myself! Hats off for telling us the nut sizes also, saves me having to muck around working them out now
@@bbtrevivaliterally just finished installing it!!! 4 hours after my comment lol - watched your video about 3 times today, got home, tackled it myself & with success! Metal guard thing is a little different on the Vx models, had to place the motor in position then awkwardly hold it while hammering the main screws in as the guard doesn’t come off, only difference, still got the job done 👍 Thanks man, your video was posted like a year ago too…. Helped me out today, just goes to show 👍
Very handy video, although im having trouble breaking the two 15mm bolts loose, any tips to get these out without snapping the bolt head off before i make more work for myself? Cheers
Best bet is to soak in your choice of penetrating oil. Douse it periodically over a period of 24 hours. Once it’s had time to really get in there then an impact driver to help knock it loose.
Hey mate My vt commodore sounds like it has a jammed starter motor as in the gear head that pokes out and spins the flywheel does in fact not push out and is stuck but it you can hear it trying to engage, is it possible to fix it with lubricant or should i just buy a new one?
Is it spinning/whirring but not engaging or is it not spinning and just giving a single click? If the first it could possibly be corroded terminals/connections reducing the amount of power getting to it so it spins but not enough to engage or Could also be a bad bendix. It might be worth pulling it and trying to service/clean/lube everything but given the cost of a replacement starter these days is pretty good value, it’s worth having a think about if you want to put effort into maybe squeezing a little more life out of an old one or just replacing it and moving on. Unless there’s obvious poor connections that can be cleaned up I personally would just replace it given I’d have to pull the old one to service anyway.
That’s up to the shop. For someone with a lift it would take 20 mins to do so in real time it’s worth maybe $50-$60 but shops rarely charge real time. I would expect $100-$200 in labour.
@@joshwaye6927 that was the original. Nothing came with new starter. Can buy them separately, they are the left part of the “transmission converter cover”. Can find easily on eBay or rare spares.
Yeah, same 3.8l ecotec. I was able to get it out through the upper engine by removing the chassis/body bracket. I felt the exhaust was too difficult or the steering rack to remove. Thanks for the encouragement to do it through your video. :)
Hey mate where is your work shop? I hope it's in Sydney somewhere I would like you to work on my 2001 VX 3.8 Supercharged it realy needs some attention.
Aww that’s the nicest thing someone has said to me online. I’m not a mechanic and don’t have a shop. I just tinker away in my own yard on my own things when I have some spare time. I’m on the northern beaches. Would love to get a shop one day though.
hey mate mine was doing the exact same thing in my vy 3.8 ute went to start it had power and everything but when i turn the key i dont have no noise it sounds like it wants to start but it wont turn over properly do you have any idea why that might be im not to big on mechanical work XD
@@bbtrevival is there a way I can message you to send you a video of cause I put a brand new battery in 3 days ago and went to start it yesterday for work but it wouldn’t start it sounds like it wants to start but doesn’t have enough power
