Great video, clean and simple to understand. Guys, primarily those complaining about piston replacement etc, thats for another video, and should be pretty obvious next step. This video is part of a one thing at a time series.

Yeah these pads wore out faster than any I've ever had. My commuter bike still had the original pads after 10 years. These needed replaced after 15 months. I'd look into different brakes for the Radrunner if I was Rad Power. They're also a pain in the rear to keep adjusted. A problem I never had on my commuter.

We recommend checking your brakes regularly and replacing them between 300 and 1000 miles. You can learn more about our brake pads and their maintenance here, radpowerbikes.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002215094-Bike-Maintenance-Guide.

@@FlightData101 what about heavy dudes on heavy bikes, is that just heavier physics?

If you ever need to easily remove and replace the heavy rear wheel on any Rad or other e bike with the motor on the rear wheel, just turn the bike upside down and let gravity help you out... After a few years fixing e-bike rear flats at my shop on the work stand I discovered this upside-down method by accident. I went to help someone on the side of the road trying to fix their rear flat and was shocked how it was...! I suggest you place some kind of blocks on the grips to raise the H-bars so the computers and mirrors don't touch the ground. ENJOY.

At first I thought I needed new pads because I wasn't getting hardly any stopping power, then I realized I just need to pull the braking cable down so there's more contact sooner when pressing the brake lever. But after a few weeks the front brakes had no stopping power whatsoever so I knew I had to replace them ASAP.
@4244john
@4244john 3 года назад
Clean the rotor with alcohol and sand the surface slightly on both sides! I realized I still had a lot of life left on the pads when I took them off to replace them. I ended up sanding the pad itself to have more grip and it was a huge difference!

Great video.... only my 2 bolts were cranked in with blue locktite And I actually broke a hex wrench getting it out. Needed some oil and heat and tapping with a hammer to get out the other one. Now off to the hardware store for 2 new bolts.

Did you miss the step about pushing the piston back? Or the part where you make sure your rotors are centered? Did you even put new pads in?
@davidbergewaytogo
@davidbergewaytogo 5 лет назад
Wondering the same thing... maybe the Tektro Aries don't require that step...?
@DannyPedder
@DannyPedder 5 лет назад
@@davidbergewaytogo I have the same brakes and the pistons obviously need adjusting back out for new pads, the only reason you wouldn't adjust the piston is if you've never adjusted the brakes to compensate for wear.
@colombianomd1
@colombianomd1 3 года назад
The adjustment steps need to be included. The old brakes are going to be wore down. I think I ruined my pads because they aren't centered to the disc and the caliper is not parallel.

So are these steps the same as for Rad Runner 2? Also I read comments where they say that removing the rear tire is easier. I don't get that point. It is much heavier and removing two wrenches should not be an issue. Please explain.

u will feel it and when its weak u can also loosen the cable from the brakes by turning the knob on the brake lever. by loosening it u tighten the retention to get the most use out without removing it.

It's called a Torque Wrench. I got mine at Canadian Tire (Insert your country's equivalent hardware store). Make sure you don't get the large automotive one, and they come with various kinds of torque indicators as well - digital, pointer, clicker, etc., each reflected in the cost. As well, it's basically a socket wrench, so you will also need whatever adapters, sockets and keys that you require for the job you want it to do. And make sure it's metric if that's an issue where you live. Bicycle torque specs are always in nm (newton-meters).
