In this video I show you how to replace the BST Cable. The cable contains an explosive device that detonates and disconnects the battery during an accident. Music: / chukimusic Instrumental produced by Chuki
Thank you very much for this excellent video. I'm experiencing a Restraint System Fault and your video was the most complete documentation of the whole BST+Cable changing procedure. Plus, you showed the very-common issue of previous owners having snipped and soldered cables.
Different Things I did not program anything it was a one on one replacement, I had no errors though. If it went of after an accident I think you need to clear the fault memory with inpa. Good luck!
Hi. The car has a small accident on the trunk and how i was look your video to change the bst I'll do the same ,but still is appear on the dash board on my bmw e90 airbag ?? What i must do ?? Thanks
New battery on my e39 525 but it was flashing the red battery light! Alternator was working with last battery I had, battery just died from sitting. Anyhow The cable heated up super hot and the BST blew after I sold the car to a friend. He drove it around for a week before it happened. I noticed some heating of the positive cable during my testing of the new battery but thought little of it. Anyhow I reconnected everything for him, some melted insulation on the wires and the airbag sensor melted off the bst. It starts and runs now but misfiring (not related, have new coils and need to add oil. my friend was not listening to me tell him he needs to add oil sometimes 🤦♂️ )Would it start a fire if it kept running now? What is causing this new heating of the positive cable??? Called Sears since battery is working ok I cannot return but I swear it is this new battery causing the issue. It is a DieHard non AGM. I told him I wanted AGM but they were out of stock and he said this one will work fine, but trouble with battery or car not sure geez. Kinda stumped and want to fix for my friend. Any recommendations appreciated
Thank you very much. Very informative. What if the car (BMW F30) doesn't receive powers at all. Even if you connect a new battery directly inside the bonnet trying to jump-start it? Dash doesn't light up and all other lights. It just doesn't respond at all.
I reprogrammed everything after, its best to take all power of the vehicle so you dont run the risk of shorting things out when you are working on it! Good luck!
Hi! There is no polarity (+ or -) on the black cables I soldered, it is just a circuit which is called the “activation circuit”. The cables send the activation signal to the explosive device. You can just put them together.
Hi, I have airbag & seatbelt light on the dash at the same time. Had it diagnosed & it says it’s the BST. My car still runs and works fine so this doesn’t make sense. If it was the BST cable how would my car still start/work as normal?? 2006 E90.
Chief the battery cable in general exists from 2 layers. 1 is the center part which is the plus cable, the outer part is a thinner part which is the monitoring cable of the airbag system. Its worth checking the plus cable which runs from the front to the back under the car for damage (mine was pierced with a screw when mounting the bottomplate) and it kept tripping the bst cables explosive device. Also you can aquire a seat matt dummy quite cheap on ebay to exclude the seat matts being defective, same for the seatbelt tensioner. The bst is designed to decouple the plus cable with an explosive device, contact is still being made for board voltage. If the bst is faulty you should have troubles starting the car. Good luck!
Chief at my E60 it runs on the underside of the vehicle on the driver side, you can see the red cable if you remove the bottom plates. Check that cable for damage. It runs from your plus terminal (with red cap) in your motorcompartment to your rear boot.
Thank you for video. My car's steering wheel airbag was deployed after a front end accident. I followed your instructions but after the changing the BST the car still will not crank. Battery is new and so is the BST. Why could this be? Its an e92 335d
@@joelluna6113 I know this is an old comment and has probably been solved but you need to take out the Airbag Module, as the errors coming back are from the eprom of the airbag module, you need to either send it off to be reset (about $50) or buy the equipment to do it yourself.
Yes, its essentialy a power distribution plate. From there all the connectiona go to the car. Your 1 series has a different power distribution system, an agm battery, energy regeneration as well as start stop functionality. This leads to having multiple connections on top of the battery. My bmw 5 series from 2003 does not have that functionality. If i’m not mistaken your bst cable will come with the distribution plate attached. Good luck!
Ali Jensen directly from BMW, at that time and I believe now also, there was no alternative. You can consult your local dealer or go to realoem and search for the partnumber belonging to your chassisnumber and order it online. Good luck!
Probably not, it could be your seat sensor mats. You can buy a dummy plug for that which you can plug in under the seat. Also your plus cable underneath the car could be damaged. Also one of your airbag units could be fried. And lastly your bst cable, in case of a “explosion” it will be visible at the terminal.
Marcos Fierros I hope you are ok! You could get the car running again once you press the cable back in to the seperated connector. The car can run but I think you will get funky error messages and unpredicted behavior (electrical errors). Good luck repairing this!
