Nice video but my wand is fine. It is the metal mechanism that it attaches to that broke off. I wish the video would have also addressed that issue on how to fix that part.
@@diannebrewer8069 Thanks for your reply, Diane. There is no sleeve or other way to fix it other than taking it apart and installing a new part for the wand which I will not do. It is a really old mini blind and not worth repairing since I plan to sell the house someday soon and the new owners will most likely replace this mini blind. The BIG mistake I made with this to avoid the breakage of the metal mechanism was to take down the mini blind and just lubricate the inner of the mechanism to make it turn freely with the wand to open and close the blind. I did that with the other same and old mini blind in another room and it works perfectly now. I had a hunch that the mechanism would someday break with that initial mini blind since there was so much resistance when opening and closing it. Too bad I did not think about taking that first one down and lubricating the mechanism like I did with the second one. That would have avoided the first one from breaking and no longer being able to use the wand to open and close it. Oh well, lesson learned!
Thanks Doug. I was able to make a joint fix with wire connecting the wand & broken metal teardrop on two blinds. One has held up for 2 years, the other drops off after a month of daily twirls. BUT new blinds are in the budget this year!
@@diannebrewer8069 Thanks for your reply, Dianne. I like your temporary fix and I wish I could do the same with my mini blinds. I can still open and close them by hand without the wand. Since I plan to sell my house someday soon, I am going to leave the mini blinds for the new owner since he or she will probably replace them. However, I will disclose about the one room with the mini blinds non-wand issue so the new owner knows. That is not only ethical but also the law to disclose about any home defects, however big or small that they are. But just too bad that I did not lubricate the internal mechanism as explained in the other email to prevent the wand issue breakage in the first place. Lesson learned!
