Replacing 2 Channel Audio with the ALL IN ONE HiFi System from Naim. Thinking about replacing 2 channel audio system that rarely gets used? While many enthusiasts will have you believe that true stereo setup is the only way to go, it’s possible to get great sound with an easy home audio system. The Naim Mu-So 2 is an easy to use music system and a great sound bar for movies. It has an HDMI port with ARC support making it perfect for your 4K smart tv. Movies and video games come alive thanks to the built in Focal speakers.

Your audiophile vocabulary is incredibly visceral. Extremely useful review, especially how you described the top end as being “clean but not glassy”, this was my main concern. I can’t imagine there are many people who could have described this so well/understandably. 🙏

I'd love to see Naim do a 'wider' version of the Mu-So in the future. They've really captured this niche in the market, and it truly is 'future-fi'. If they can continue to build out their platform in the future to include 'wireless surrounds' they could take a massive chunk out of Sonos' marketshare imo.

Thank you Andrew Robinson. You hit the nail on the head with saying the best HiFi is the one you use. Since moving house, placement of my B&W 604 S3 speakers meant they were in a room that I would rarely listen to music in. Switching to a Naim Mu-so 2, partially due to your review, I’ve sacrificed very little in terms of sound quality, but gained so much more in usability.

Good review guys, I think the Mu-So is certainly for music lovers who maybe have a full separates system but also want something that is fuss free to deliver music without having to do the whole "sit down in front of two speakers and listen" type exercise. The sound is superb but you don`t have to give it your full attention like some traditional separates

Hello Mr Robinson, I've been in possession of this excellent music system for 2 weeks now. From minute 7 you get straight to the point. I, too, belonged to this sort of so-called High Ender who looked for every little change in the sound. That's over now, because now I'm just enjoying the music. For true music enjoyment, I use the Focal Celestee on the Naim Atom - Headphone Edition.

I have 2 Naim Cube V2s. We have a 2 story house and the 1st floor is pretty open and large. The problem I've had with normal stereo systems is that they can't fill a large space without some areas being too loud and others not loud enough. Then there is the whole which channel are you standing near to issue. I prefer mono which is what the cubes do and by placing them as I have the entire 1st floor (minus bedrooms) is filled with sound at a pleasing and satisfying volume level. Wherever you are sitting or standing or as you move about, the sound is the same and its great. They don't take up much room and they look nice so they don't interfere with the wife's decorating. Upstairs is the bonus room which is a home theater with the normal stuff.

Great design, like the big illuminated knob, reminds me alot of a 1970's Telefunken TED video disc player. Looks way more elegant than anything I have seen from Sonos. I could imagine using in my office room. The jacks underneath is something I have only encountered on my 1959 Knight tube amp. Also, I really like the close-up inserts in your reviews.

Thank you for watching! It's WAY more stylish than a lot of all-in-one speakers. About the only thing that I've seen that may give the Mu-so 2 a run for its money stylistically is the Bang & Olufsen Beolab Stage.

I have sold my DeVialet amp/speaker combo and I am looking to replace it with the Naim. I had a listen at my audio shop and compared to the MacIntosh and Dali equivalents I can tell you that Naim's MuSo2 sounds by far better. Being a retired person, not being at home many months a year, this will surely fill all my needs for TV and music listening...at a fraction of my DeVialet setup. Naim sounds plenty good enough to satisfy my needs. Thanks for your review, very to the point if I may add.

First of all: This review played no small part in me ordering a Muso 2 yesterday. So my thanks to Andrew and Kristi for continuing to craft helpful and informative reviews! Our main living space is a challenge to properly place speakers due to lots of windows and only having a small corner area for A/V furniture. We’ve gone from an old Bose surround system, to 2-channel tower speakers, to a passive soundbar that we are currently testing out. None of these have worked out for us. Either the speaker placement wasn’t right for our listening positions or just the sound was not satisfying. Even though music is a priority in our space, I’ve had the (narrow) mindset that I always needed a multi-channel receiver for my various sources. The Ambeo almost dismantled that mindset, but it’s physically too large for our corner space. Now that we’ve found more flexible corner A/V furniture, the Muso 2 will be the perfect all-in-one solution for us. Hopefully, this description helps clear up somewhat who would use this kind of speaker and why.

I think speakers like this maybe not the future, but definitely have tapped a big market. I think there are all types of audiophiles out there with all sorts of preferences. And i think soundbars are a great product for people looking for big sound in more compact packages or discreet? Personally for me i like a traditional setup of two speaker (2.1 specifically) setup for... 2 channel listening.

I have a MuSo2 and a QB2. I’ve had them for a while. I love them. I use them much more than my Magnepans, for all the reasons given. The newest AppleTV with spatial audio is also a game changer for movies. It’s just wonderful to live with. I even travel with them: my spouse and I don’t live in the same state, but we often have long visits together: I’ll pack up both, and they just absolutely fill her rather large and open house.

Having owned and thoroughly enjoyed the first gen Muso (kept by my ex when we split up 😔) I immediately went and bought the gen 2, which is better but personally I dont think it warrants an upgrade if you have the first gen. I test drove all of its rivals before I bought it and this was easily the best sounding all-in-one package at the money! The sound that comes out of such a small package defies belief! I agree with Andrews review, keep up the good work!👌🏽

I enjoy all of your reviews but you were right about the "controversy" this would stir, the comments are almost as much fun to read as the review was to watch. I think also people have to come to terms with the fact that these days it's rare to find a genuinely bad product at a several hundred dollar price point. Maybe something else is better, but that's why we compare. It was nice of Dennon to toss you that lemon as a demonstration for these folk.

Andrew, I really enjoy your approach to reviews and the production is great. I'm nowhere near ready to give up my system for something like this, however, I think it would be very useful for a family room. Something easy for every member in the family to operate and something that sounds really good for when it's my turn to pick the music. I have a wireless speaker that I use quite often; more often than I thought I would. It's a Paradigm PW 800, I think is the model. I use it in the kitchen which is also where I'm teleworking and it's great to control my what I'm listening to from my phone and it sounds really good for what it is.

Good review of a product I have almost zero interest in, but I stayed with you. This could make a nice bedroom rig, though. I don't do smart speakers and almost never play background music. That might just be me, though. People don't get that, s I liken it to television. If I turn the TV on, I sit and watch--with 2 channel sound, which is plenty. If I'm not watching, it's not on. Same with my music. I sit and listen to it. I don't do any of the smart speakers for that reason, either. I don't think products like this are THE future of HiFi, but merely a segment of that future. The closest product to this that I'd buy is a high-end integrated amp.

I think powered speakers and systems like this definitely have a major place in hi-fi going forward. If you're looking for what is going to be the predominant winner in a market ALWAYS bet on lazy/easy over capable or nuanced. HOWEVER there will always be folks wanting to play with all the different component pairings. It's a more individualized experience.

Thanks for your insight and opinion with this video presentation. Even though it's 2 years ago I have found it useful and intriguing. I have a nice entry level Hifi with a Rega P3 as the source and I spent a few years (and a couple of thousand) assembling it, and I am generally very happy with it. I've decided that I probably won't upgrade anymore because at 58 my ears will be starting to degrade and it would likely cost thousands more for significant improvements, however I would be interested in also owning an alternative piece of kit designed more for - as you stated in your video - easy everyday (or all day) use that's more compatible with today's lifestyle and music choices. For example streaming (Spotify etc) and internet radio, both of which I play more often than my CD and Record collection - partly out of convenience and also because of the range of content more vast than it's possible to own. A well made bespoke piece of equipment designed specifically for this purpose is quite appealing especially if it has high quality sound and makes the listening experience enjoyable without being over analytical. From what you are saying the Naim fits perfectly into this area and as such I am very keen to audition it for myself. A £1,500 ish budget could be more likely to significantly improve my listening pleasure on a Mu-so 2 in addition to my HiFi separates than by attempting to upgrade my system. I'm very interested. Thank you.

I've been a Naim devotee for a good 18 years and my A-system is a full rack Naim rig. My parents own a Muso 1 and so too a couple of friends who I suggested it to. When I went looking for a soundbar, I skipped over the Muso and went with the B&O Stage, which is actually dearer. The B&O met my decore needs being wall mountable, and it too sounds amazing. I went for the bronze/taupe model. No regrets at all. The reason why the cables exit under the base is so the Muso can sit on a table behind a couch for example so all you see is the lovely heatsink! :) And yes, for many people, this style of speaker is the future.

Excellent review good sir! I appreciate the detail and the reference to the Sennheiser Ambeo and LG Soundbar. Provided a bit of context. I think there’s an obvious audience here and it’s for folks that don’t particularly like the look of speakers and want relatively mid-level or high-end audio in an all-in-one solution. If my older brother got into hi-fi and had to wrestle with the wife acceptance factor (she doesn’t like speakers), he may opt for something like this. I personally would not get the Mu-So 2for a few reasons. I’m simply not the intended audience; - I am a specs snob; Whenever a spec goes out of date (whether it’s the version of Bluetooth, codecs, HDMI ARC vs eARC, Wi-Fi connectivity, etc.) I’m keen to upgrade my setup. With an all-in-one, I would be upgrading often by selling/swapping out the entire system at a loss quite often. This can get expensive. I’d rather have powered monitors and a subwoofer connected to something like the Bluesound Node 2i. That way, I’d just be replacing the DAC/streamer and not the speakers. - No subwoofer out. That speaker looks like it’s flat to maybe ~50Hz if I had to guess. I really prefer something that’s at least flat to 30Hz. Therefore, I need a sub. Even the ability to connect to a wireless subwoofer receiver in the back so I could discretely put a wireless sub somewhere in the room would be ideal. - Price: I could purchase 2 x Adam T5V powered monitors, a Node 2i, and a used 10” or 12” sealed sub for the price of the Mu-So 2. I haven’t heard the Mu-So 2 but I have a hard time believing it could provide a competitive sonic experience.

I keep coming back to this product and now again that you've reviewed it. The want is strong! I'm considering this as a replacement for my sonos play 1 speakers that I use for every day listening between kitchen and living room. Not sure how much experience you have with sonos products but I have to imagine the Naim would be a significant upgrade don't you think?

I cannot say as I have not compared the two, but style-wise I think the NAIM is better.

You ask if a product like the Mu-So 2 is the future of high end audio - i look at it as more of a "Lifestyle" product. The high end audio enthusiast will be more interested in the Naim Unity Nova than the Mu-So 2.
@andrewrobinsonreviews
@andrewrobinsonreviews 3 года назад
We need to divorce ourselves from the term "lifestyle" as a category for even a two-channel system with all the trappings is part of one's "lifestyle". In my opinion this is a step towards the future and in time will replace "traditional" systems as a new wave of enthusiasts and audiophiles will have no need for two or more speakers and a rack full of gear. It's the same as in the not too distant future no longer needing the internal combustion engine but still wanting cars.
@barneyjones5174
@barneyjones5174 3 года назад
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Like you say, for those who have "no need for two or more speakers and a rack full of gear". With so many doing large screen home theater rooms, the growing market of short throw projection, the desire for big sound and subs, i think multiple speakers will still be predominant for quite some time. If we take a big picture view - with a world population of 7.8 billion i think there is room for all sorts of AV product.
@edgecrush3r

the only thing i dislike about this system is that you cant add a sub for that otherwise missing ultra-lows. else it would be the perfect match for my cinema. i really wonder how the NAIM Mu-so 2 stacks up against the KEF LS50 (Wireless) Meta or normal LS50s.

Gorgeous HiFi system but why would they put the cables on the side? This is the first thing I've seen that's reminded me of B&O's old hi-fi systems. This is very impressive by NAIM. With soundbars becoming so popular, they should double down and make a surround version that's just a tad larger with tiny side and upward firing speakers.

Very much considering this as a device in our home. Where would it get use? Not as my primary source for home theatre of course, but we will soon have a second tv in another room that is not really meant for tv watching but for sitting around reading and maybe listening to music. It is here that I think the device will shine. It does all the streaming I need and I can connect the TV for a better than average sound when it is desired. I need something that looks nice, doesn't need speakers and performs. If it is as good as has been described it will be the option for me.

Good review, Andrew but imho I feel that it would be better to spend $800 more and go with the new Kef LS50 Wireless 2. Much better sound plus plenty of options like HDMI etc. I believe that wireless speakers like the Kef are the true future of hifi.

Thank you for the review. As for me, I can't see how NAIM plans to market this. If I wanted something dedicated for movies, I would for a true sound bar that would decode the audio a lot better for DOLBY ATMOS. If I wanted two channel stereo in a living room where space mattered, I would opt for Klipsh the Fives, which is abouit half the price.

Nice review! Very interesting product. For me it’s probably not a good fit. I am definitely a 2 channel person so I bought a pair of Klipsch “The Fives” for our family room and then another pair for the bedroom. I still have $90 left compared to the Naim Mu-So2. I have 2 old 3rd generation Apple TV’s connected to them so I can use AirPlay and apps through those. I used an existing subwoofer in the family room so if you subtracted that cost and the cost of the Apple TV’s I guess my setup is more expensive. Of course I haven’t heard the Naim so maybe it would sound better to me. I have zero complaints with The Fives other than the silly name. The Naim kind of shares that issue though.

If this was updated for HDMI 2.1 and perhaps had Atmos connectivity options I would consider it. Sadly, manufacturers never reveal new upcoming products because they still want to sell existing products but I'd love to see an updated version of this. The natural wood version looks great and is currently selling at a discounted £1k - that's soooooo tempting
@techsamurai11
@techsamurai11 Год назад
For $1,150, this is a very compelling option unless the BeoSound Stage becomes cheaper. I don't think having HDMI 2.1 or Atmos would make any difference here as it's a stereo system. If that's stopping, then you aren't missing anything. If you want simulated Atmos, you'd have to get a real soundbar but they may cost more and will probably not sound as good as this with music or 2.0.
