Replacing a Bad Cue Tip
So the tip on my J Flowers cue is garbage. After playing with it for about a month I find I'm miscuing way too much. I took the opportunity to see my friend Darcy at CueJo's Customs and get him to replace the tip.
Listen to every word Darcy says. He's incredibly experienced in cue manufacturing and repair. Also watch the entire video as you learn exactly what's going on with the cue and potentially what we may have to do in the future.
This was a fun one to make friends. If you haven't already, please consider SUBSCRIBING as it means a lot to a small potatoes RU-vid channel such as myself.
If you're interested in learning more about the cue tip we ended up going with please contact Darcy @

He's absolutely great at getting back to you!
Special thank you Top Shots Billiards and Ping Pong for allowing us to film in you absolutely beautiful pool room

If i can add something here alot of people do not know this 1 the Lock tight glue he,s using could be bad or could be another company over seas could be making this glue and putting the Lock tight logo on it making it look like the real deal. It happens all the time. 2 Ive heard out of every 100 tips being sold 10 of them will have some kind of defect in them. making them pop off , not playing like there supposed to, ETC. You ever have one of those tips that theres just something not right about it no matter what you do to it??? Anyways guys i enjoyed the video , hope to see you soon THE CAROLINA KID - BRAD FORDE

What I Darcy failing to do everytime is he doesn't roughen up the surface that the tip is being glued to. I use like 120 grit. In addition, you have to put grooves in the surface of the ferrule to allow more surface area for glue to stick to. I also have a jflowers cue and put a ultraskin fire medium tip on myself with no lathe without issue.

Yeah I did see him rough up the tip but not the Ferule like you said. Ironic cause he's been doing my tips for years and I've seen him do exactly what you described...but he didn't do it here😔. What say you @cuejos_customs?

Scuff both the ferrule and tip with 80 or 120 grit and score both with a razor and it will never come off

Would you recommend upgrading to a Kamui tip when ordering a Jflowers cue?
@HereAfterBilliards
@HereAfterBilliards Год назад
Great question. In my opinion...no way! Just take the Moori Medium that comes with the cue. But have the plan that as soon as you get the cue, take it to who ever does your tips locally. Rip that piece of garbage off an pay your local cue person to put the tip you want on it. No offense to J Flowers, but you don't know who's doing that work there at their factory. Plus support your local cue person by giving them business. Then you know it's done right

My j flower was before you could get a white sight plate. I did put a kamikaze White sight plate on it when I retipped it. I feel better about that decision now lol. I think it's a better material in J flowers put on their white sight plate

@@HereAfterBilliards awesome. If you decide to get a break or jump break cue I highly recommend using a bullet proof tip. They are actually really good shooting tips as well. They jump amazing and you can really spin the ball like a leather tip can. Even are fairly low deflection unlike phenolic tips. Toam 2.0 and them are really close. But I think the bullet proof are a little better. Just a tad softer, but jump better somehow
@HereAfterBilliards
@HereAfterBilliards Год назад
@@jasonsanders9054 That's interesting. I can't leave my existing Jumper. Darcy actually made it for me probably 10 years ago. It's amazing. I might be in the market for an actual breaker though. I use an old Mali outfitted with a phenolic tip. I'll keep your suggestion in mind.

They use pvc for the ferrule.
@HereAfterBilliards

I'll look into that. Are you suggesting PVC would affect the adhesiveness to the tip?

@HereAfterBilliards
@HereAfterBilliards Год назад
I humbly disagree with you. One of the best aspects of the tip coming off a number of times is that we highlight the use of cheaper plastics. That's something I didn't know before. 👍THANKS FOR WATCHING THOUGH

@@HereAfterBilliards It was not a casual comment. I watched this video in detail.... I have shop in a pool hall as well.... 15 years experience with tip replacement and cue repair.... and I humbly disagree with you. Apart from other issues I noted here is something that you may not know; the use of accelerants with superglue weakens the bond. Have a nice day.
