Best Cue Tip | #Billiards Review | Ultraskin Pro Medium Fire | IT'S ALL TASTE
Don't be fooled by people saying there's simply one cue tip that's the best. I think we all know that's garbage. We all play differently and all have different preferences to pool cue tips. Some like it hard...others medium and still others like the soft tips.
I've always preferred medium layered tips. Specifically the Moori brand was always my favorite. That changed when their quality went down. I break it down here and talk about the tip I'm playing with currently...The Ultraskin Pro Medium Fire. I love it.

By your review here, I had an Ultraskin Fire medium installed last week on my Predator Revo 12.4 mm shaft I got about a month ago. I had an old Moori medium installed on my last shaft and really liked it, but wanted to go with a tip that is currently being made so I can stick with it for future replacements. I tried but didn't like the stock Predator Victory soft tip that came on the Revo; I was consistently miscuing on long draw shots as well as was significantly killing my action on the cue ball, in general. For my stroke, this Ultraskin Fire plays as good as any tip I've played with over the years. I've played about 40 or so games with the Fire so far; I immediately stopped miscuing on draw shots and got back my action on the cue ball and better feel. I love the Revo, and this medium Fire tip. Thanks for the tip recommendation.

I really glad you're finding it as good as I did. I think for the price there isn't a comparison in the layered tip market. Recently I switched out cues and went back up to a 12.5mm shaft from the 11.8mm. I knew immediately that I'd be popping off the factory Moori but this time I decided to go with a Taom Fusion. If I were to compare the two tips I would say the Fusion feels softer and I generate even more action than the Ultra Skin but I don't have to deal with the mushrooming that you generally get with the softer tips. I'm loving it. That being said the price of the Taom Fusion is quite a bit higher when compared to the Ultra Skin so is it worth it? Who am I to say. It's all about personal feel but if you're experimenting with tips I'd give the Taom a try. It's pretty awesome in my opinion.

@@HereAfterBilliards .. I like a firmer hit but not too hard so this type of tip, a fair quality laminated medium tip, simply works for me. I noticed someone here said they like the Zan hybrid; I tried it but the feel of it was funky to me. To me, the price difference of a tip doesn't matter, none of them are that drastic in cost difference relatively speaking, because the tip is of primary importance for your cue and thus for your game. For one other example of a very inexpensive tip I really liked and shot well with is the Wizard medium laminated tip. Like you said (loosely paraphrasing), a cheap date can be the best date, it's just whatever feels right and works for you LOL.

I bought some of the fire tips from the website you mentioned in the video and I also have a tiger onyx. I want to change out the tiger sniper tip that came on my Cuetec Cynergy because it is accidentally inducing too much spin when playing that is causing some errors. I’m your opinion should I instal the fire or the onyx on my Cuetec Cynergy shaft?

I guarantee you won't like them anymore. Experiment with the newer layered tips. Try a How, Zan or Taom. Right now I have a Caiden Brand Fighter and I love it.

I’ve never tried an ultraskin on my shafts, but have tried them. I like them, but am a pretty hardcore tiger sniper/onyx fan. Tony reminds me of the guy you’re talking about. Compared everything to moori when he started making the sniper tip until in his mind he finally beat it. The difference is- the Tiger tips are all still made fresh. I’ve seen the shop. Give them a try if you like that medium tip.

You don't really hear of people using Huebler cues very much any more. I have my dads Huebler Custom #2 he bought in the mid 80's. And my favorite cues to play with till this day are still the Huebler 'Hitters' or 'Hustlers' (I think that they were called that because Paul didn't care for the term 'sneaky pete'). But don't get me wrong because I've heard those J Flowers play very nice! 😎

The whole pool community definitely knows that Moori isn't what it used to be in the early 2000's. I'm in the process of switching to HOW mediums. So far, I'm a big fan. Tiger Onyx is also a good tip. Kamui seems to be over rated, but I believe they play well. I'm currently hearing the the Zan Hybrid Max is the best on the market. I'm now learning to use a lathe and experimenting on my own. I'm using a durometer to check initial hardness also. I was putting on a Kamui Soft last weekend and the bottom layer totally delaminated. I'm not too happy with that. I'll be putting on another HOW medium tomorrow night on my spare shaft (identical). When I make a change from now on, I'm going to change the tip on both shafts and rotate them out so that they're as close to identical as possible in case something were to happen during a tournament.

I played with triangle tips for years. Tried a bunch of layered tips. Always go back to the triangle. Show recently I bought a new cue a custom I decided to try the ultraskin medium. It's not holding its shape. I will be taking it off and putting back on a triangle tip. I know people think softer tips put more spin on the ball but that's just not true I can power draw with a triangle just as well as I can power draw with a soft layered tip. Check out dr. Dave's latest videos if you don't believe tip hardness makes no difference. Dr. Dave shoots a hell of a nice draw shot with a phenolic tip break cue so for the hell of it the other night I grabbed my buddies phenolic tip break cue and could draw the ball with a phenolic tip. My triangle tips cost me a couple bucks they never mushroom and they put all the spin on the ball you could ever want. I know this opinion will go against the grain people want to believe layered tips that are $30 a piece of the best but that's just not true. But it is different strokes for different folks so you should play with whatever you like.

I'm just giving my experience with this tip. I liked it. It did Mushroom a bit like you experienced. I've moved onto the Taom Fusion tip and I actually like it more. Very responsive. People are absolutely free to rock out on the table how they like. Cues and tips are highly personal items for sure.
