Have you ever finished a quilt top, laid it out to admire it, and then realized--one of the blocks is wrong?? Maybe its the wrong block in the wrong spot. Or maybe its a half square triangle that is rotated the wrong way. Whatever it is, you can fix it without dismantling your entire quilt. It just takes a little surgery and some creative sewing!
I'll show you how to find the seams to rip to remove the block and then put the new block in so no one will ever know!

You have the gift of teaching. Thank you. And you’re talking speed is perfect. You talk clearly and explain so well. I have never done this, not Because I didn’t need to it sometime, but because I have no clue what to do first. So thank you thank you thank you for this new quilting skill. I just found you tonight for the first time and subscribed.

I had to figure this out on my own recently and did not do it as gracefully as you. (I'm a beginner). but it is good to know that I did end up through trial and error, do it correctly. So I really appreciate the technique. But as a beginner, what I truly appreciate, is knowing that experienced quilters make this mistake and it is not uncommon. Some how every time I find myself with a seam ripper in my hand (and some days it is almost every block) I feel like this is confirmation that I have no business sewing. So thank you for telling me this is normal and while it may get better, it is just a part of sewing.

Thank you. I am a beginner quilter and just finished my 3rd quilt top ever. I laid out my work to have a look and realized one of my log cabin blocks needs another quarter-turn to be oriented correctly. Just the thought of correcting this was daunting but I held out hope and searched for a video to help. Your tips seemed so logical but for us beginners, it was just the kind of help I needed 😊

I don’t want this be weird but I love you. I’ve watched a few of your tutorials when I was just beginning (4 months ago) and learned so much. I’m tackling a quilt that I’m just winging the design/pattern for now. And I’m not loving my most recent finished giant quilt block because the center is too busy for it. I am so happy that I googled “how to replace a quilt block without ripping all the seams apart” and came across this. I’m saving this video for reference! I also started an IG account to centralize resources for other novice quilters and am going to share this there! Thank you so much!!

Thanks for demonstrating how to remove and then sew in blocks/pieces to a complete top or block with many pieces. I’ve heard other quilters on YT say they’ll be removing and re-sewing a block but they’ve never shared the actual process, just the before and after pictures. This was a great tutorial and one I am saving to reference should I need to. Hello from Australia 😀👋🇦🇺

What a great video. You make it so easy. One note, could you do a video on how/ when to press the pinwheel seams at joined corners please. Also, have never, in 50 years of quilting seen anyone actually rip seams, only pick at them. Good job.

Sure! I think I covered it a bit in an old block study but you’d have to wade through the whole video to find it. I’ve been thinking about doing some more tips videos that are just a couple of minutes and this would be perfect!

🌟⚡️🌟⚡️🌟⚡️🌟 This was GREAT!!! I've had to replace a piece in a quilt top a long time ago and it was kind of a mess. I'm a beginner, started just over 2 years ago. When I had to do it, I was a RANK beginner!! 😂🤣😂 I had NO clue where or how to start ripping it out or sewing it back in. I just jumped in there and did it the best I could. Ehhhh it came out a leeeedle mismatched at the end LOL I am SO GLAD I now have this to refer back to in case I get a brain cramp🙄🤓 when I need to do it again!! It's getting saved into my quilt file! HOW do you think of these things? This is one of those things that I don't know I need to know until I need to know it! 🙃😉😄 Girrrrllll you ROCK! 😎😎

I did that once with a really complicated quilt block. I realized that I had the wrong orientation so I surgically removed it, took it all apart, put it back together again, sewed it into my top to admire my handy work and realized that I made the same mistake again! Uuggghh. Needless to say, that quilt top is in my UFO pile.

You are the BEST instructor!!! No one else addresses some of the issues you work through for all of us. An aside- I wish the dislike button wasn’t so near then LIKE button. I hit it by mistake first. Then corrected with like, but can’t tell if only the last ‘like’ was counted.

This is so helpful! I have a vintage bowtie top from my great-uncle's mother that has a block that has rotted away. I plan to replace (hopefully just that 1 block!) and put that quilt to use! I'll be referring back to this video many times!
