Got a faucet aerator you cannot remove? Watch this!
Chris demonstrates a couple of tricks for removing a stuck aerator and for removing a recessed aerator (aka cache aerator).
When replacing an aerator, try a lower flow rate to see how you like it. You may not even notice a difference and you’ll save money on those water bills!
Tools Needed:
- Adjustable pliers with rubber coated handles : amzn.to/2HFrMll
- Jar opener : amzn.to/3dYTHs8
- Aerator cache key : amzn.to/2G4Nlek

Errr, why was this video titled about removing a STUCK faucet aerator when it's just a video showing how to remove a perfectly normally loose aerator that isn't stuck at all (on the recessed one)?

Get a hose-clamp ($3.99 at ACE) and use a screwdriver or nut-driver to tighten it on. Then use a hammer to pound on the screwdriver in the correct direction to loosen the aerator.

That hack w/the plier handles worked great. After buying and trying a couple of aerator "wrenches," that didn't work, your little trick did! The tools I bought worked on the other faucet aerators in our home, but couldn't get a grip on a couple of very thin aerator rings on two Moen faucets in our Master Bath. Man, I'm glad to have found your channel.

Could you’ve show other types of faucets. Mine doesn’t look like the ones you showed. It’s a bathroom faucet with hot & cold taps and a stopped value. Hello. I have the same problem. I taped a plastic food bag filled with some white vinegar to the end of the faucet and hope to soak the 'gunk', which is locking the aerator in place and making the gunk difficult to remove. If you try this, make sure the aerator is completely soaked in the vinegar and leave the food bag on overnight. I will wait to see if this idea works!

Wrap each of the jaws with rubber bands if you are like me and don't have anything fancy like this. All my tools are either vintage or antique. That means they won't break while I'm chewing the Heck out of the aerator cover that someone screwed on crooked and jammed it in to fit. The faucet is only about 2 years old and buildup isn't a problem here, so it's not a soaking issue. No matter what I do it won't budge but the faucet itself seems quite willing to disengage itself from the entire sink in the process! #@$&*!!

Hi. I have a Delta bathroom sink faucet (520-mpu-dst). On this faucet the plastic aerator screws into another piece of plastic or metal (aluminum I think) which is separate from the top of the main cover assembly outlet. When I try to turn the aerator out of this lower assembly of the faucet outlet, it starts to separate from the top. I am afraid this lower assembly will either break or bend while twisting the aerator. Can you shed any light on this problem?

This is tricky without me being able to see it. Try bending a paper clip into a hook shape and then pull it out as you unscrew. The threads could be stripped out.

What do you do when the metal part breaks off in the faucet????
@ToolboxDIY
@ToolboxDIY 2 года назад
Insert needle nose pliers into the opening, open the pliers, and then try to unscrew. If that doesn't work because it won't catch the metal part to unscrew it, try cutting a raw potato in half, jamb it into the metal and try to unscrew it. You may have to carve up the potato a bit depending on your faucet.

Hello! My bathroom sink (just purchased and moved into this condo) has a cache aerator that somebody has obviously tried to removed before. The screen section is completely GONE. And the outer section with the groves has been messed with enough that it is "stripped" for lack of a better tern...all the grove thingies are pretty much worn down and none of the "key" things will grip into the indentations. I need some idea (that I can do, LOL) about what to use to get that outer ring out of there. I know the idea is it is screwed in place, and I have tried various methods/things to shove up in there that will have enough grip to be able to screw it out but haven't found anything that works. I know not to do anything with extreme force :) I have tried wrapping various objects (that are not too long to fit directly underneath the faucet with grippy things like a tourniquet and such but no luck. PLEASE tell me there is something I can do that won't require plumber's expensive visit!
@ToolboxDIY
@ToolboxDIY 2 года назад
Here's one idea...buy the largest slotted screwdriver you can find (largest being the widest tip that isn't bigger than the diameter of your aerator. Take a utility knife and carefully cut across the aerator. You want to try to get that screwdriver as deep as possible into that slit as possible. If it goes in by a quarter inch or more, you might be able to unscrew it with the screwdriver. You may need a what's called a stubby screwdriver which isn't long but still has good handle.

@@ToolboxDIY, oh I'm not ashamed. LOL, I would have been ashamed if I had continued to struggle with it, applied too much force and broke the hole faucet off...that's my luck! I tried the little round tool thingy that they sell at Lowes, but the plumber had a tool specifically for this and best I can describe the tool is that it was long, thin, and flat on on side with various intervals of indentation along the other side...he slotted the correct indentations for that specific size faucet end into the edge of the aerator and just gave it a little bit of a turn and it was out. He said those round tools are not really the best option for that type of aerator although they are sold for that. He was able to help me out with something else while he was here, so it's all good. I have a relationship with this company and they always send the same plumber if at all possible. He has even gone shopping at Lowes for me on his own time to find something I needed in the past....he took pictures, let me pick what I wanted, then when he came to install the item, that was the visit I was charged for (and of course I paid for the item he did my personal shopping for!)

Absolutely RIDICULOUS tool for aerator removal. "Just insert the tool until you feel it lock in the grooves..." Except they don't ever lock in the grooves. What you had to do in this video is how it always goes. You can't keep it locked in the grooves. Who in the hell decided this was the tool everyone would have to use for their aerator? Homans are getting stupider, and quickly. There is no doubt in my mind about that fact.

What exactly you did? First you removed the aerator. Then you didn't show putting it back, but the size of the tap shows you had put it. and you did something with the 4 way key. Not clear what you did. But that again removed the aerator. When you had already removed it, why to remove it again. And then you say "clean or replace it", shouldn't you have shown how to clean it? Was this video devoted to just opening the aerator. Learn to add more information in your videos. Waste of time.
