Replacing a Kohler Fairfax 12176 with a Moen Wetherly 87999BRB
1. Turn off the hot and cold valves leading to the faucet by turning the valve handles clockwise. Any other valves such as to the dishwasher or refrigerator can be left as-is. Confirm water is off to the faucet.
2. Unscrew both faucet lines from the hot and cold valves by turning their end nuts counter-clockwise. You'll probably need to use a wrench. Have a container ready to catch the water left in the lines and faucet. Open the faucet to fully drain all water possibly trapped by air. Any other lines such as to the dishwasher or refrigerator can be left as-is.
3. Unscrew and remove the hexagonal retaining rod under the faucet by turning it counter-clockwise. That will allow the horseshoe-shaped retaining flange under the faucet to fall out, so the faucet is no longer clamped to the counter. This retaining rod is specific to the brand; your faucet might be clamped differently.
4. Pull up the now-loose faucet from the counter and either unscrew the spray hose by turning the connection nut counter-clockwise, or simply cut off the hose. Have a container ready to catch the water left in the spray hose. Remove the old faucet and spray hose.
5. Insert the new faucet into the counter hole on top of the supplied gasket. From underneath, slide the large washer and large mounting nut over the hoses. Turn the large mounting nut clockwise on the faucet until it's flush with the washer against the counter. Evenly tighten all three screws clockwise on the mounting nut with a screwdriver until the faucet is tight and solid against the counter.
6. Insert the new hose guide and spray hose into the counter hole using the supplied gasket.
7. Slip the white plastic hose guide nut onto the spray hose and screw it clockwise onto to the hose guide to tighten it against the counter. The nut can be reversed to adjust for thick or thin counters.
8. Firmly insert the spray hose into the faucet's white connector until you hear a "click".
9. Connect the flexible lines from the new faucet to the valves by turning their end nuts clockwise, and tighten with a wrench. The new hot line is labeled with a paper tag.
10. Open the valves by turning their handles counter-clockwise. Use the faucet and spray and check for leaks. You're all done.
