I just discovered the channel last night and stayed up late binge watching from the beginning. You are now my favorite RU-vid channel. Love the way you work together and your solutions to the problems facing you. I just moved aboard a 43 year old trawler a week ago, and you are an inspiration to me. Just wish I had your energy. You should be very proud of the work you are doing! I also think you are a great couple we need more people like you out there. God Bless and Good Luck!!

11:53 is a TV "booster" or amplifier. There would have been an outdoor TV antenna, with a little object attached to it called a "preamp". The unit you are holding is the power booster. It would send power up to the preamp on the antenna, and the boosted signal would come down, through the booster, and out to the TV. On a side note, I'm interested to find out what, if any, plans you have for internet. Seems the big push is to Starlink system, which I'm seeing on boats, RVs, etc.
@TR4zest
@TR4zest 2 года назад
I have just gone through the internet thing for my houseboat. The most economical that I found was to get a Mifi (mobile wifi). Get a cheap data SIM that provides unlimited data and away you go. I pay $15 / month for the SIM and it is fast enough for streaming / music, smart TV etc. Obviously, it only works in cell signal range of the shore. Starlink is hella expensive.
@5thGenNativeTexan
@5thGenNativeTexan 2 года назад
@@TR4zest Yep, totally for lakes, or regions close to shore. I live in the Gulf area and it doesn't take long before you are well out of range though.

I've never owned a boat, so this is a curiosity question. Even though this boat cost them little or nothing, there have to be recurring expenses they're paying while repairing it before they can even use it. Like, I'm sure it costs them to dock it, shore power, etc. "Free" is rarely really "free".
@SeekingSeas
@SeekingSeas 2 года назад
Yes, your absolutely right. There's moorage, electricity, and all the repair stuff we have to buy. Where we are saving is on labor costs because we're doing it ourselves. We're going to do a video of what it actually has cost us in the near future. We could have bought a boat in better shape at a much greater cost as well, but for us it's a project that we can do together, an accomplishment to be proud of and will get to enjoy for years to come.

Also, I wanted to apologize for what is clearly a lazy attempt at humor. I was rushed and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing, and a lazy half question clearly doesn't convey what I was getting at. I was going to edit it, but don't really value correcting something without an explanation. Anyways... I have binged the whole series so far today and am both absolutely impressed and amazed with you both! You two are digging in, putting in the work, and making it happen! I'm out of Tacoma and am (hopefully) just a few years behind you both in the endeavor. My wife is opening up to idea, albeit slowly. Both of you are very resourceful and clever, and I'm really appreciating how you show us the nitty-gritty of what you're getting into, without selling "the dream". Also, my daughter is named Hannah, so +1 haha. I'm looking forward to following your guys' journey with this process, and I'm also wondering, in case I missed it... Have you come up with a name yet?
@SeekingSeas

Haha no worries about the joke, it earned a little chuckle from me. Thanks for watching the whole journey! Honestly I (Hannah) had to warm up to the idea of it as well, but now it feels like home and I totally understand the love for the water that Jesse has always had, and going on this journey together just makes it that much better! We haven't fully decided on a name but have gotten some good suggestions, let us know if you have some ideas!

Great job on so many things. That little black "ac dc" box is a power split for an antenna, maybe an older analog for the tv (they also work with the new digital ones.) It just made it possible to power the antenna from ac (if plugged into the dock or running the generator) or switched to dc if at anchor.
