Thank you so much for telling me about the rear door being the same as my driver door. Replaced my 2008 Mazda 3 like this just now and saved me a $100 estimate to replace it at a mechanic. Took less than 20 minutes!
Doing some research on advanced auto parts they came up as the same part number. Doing a swap on that old car was more reasonable than buying a new one.
Awesome. Heading out to my 2008 Mazda 6 to swap the motors. I did order a new one on Amazon plus a gear kit because who really knows, and the cost was very affordable.
Yeah, we didn’t know what we got into and no one locally had a motor. But once I’ve seen what it looks like I had a plan of attack. The plastic gear definitely will make a difference. Ours was all worn out as you can see. Thanks for watching :)
@@Turbo_Snail I had to remove the speakers because the gear inside the door on both motors fell in so by removing the speakers I could hold the gear in place to get the screws started then play with the window until the gears lined up. Thing is when I go back in and pull out the failing gear grinding motor assembly and replace it with the new motor I will open up the original motor and change the gears. For some reason the right rear motor will not program to automatically roll up or down but the failed one will. Its all good and I have a road trip to make on Sunday so if I get pulled over by the Police I will not have an issue rolling down the window, yea sometimes it would get stuck going up or down and I would have to play with the window and it would move again. Had a similar problem with an old Mercury Cougar back in the day and had to replace a plastic gear that rode on a worm drive. That one was more challenging to resolve because the motor assembly was inside the door.
So newer cars, not sure if that applies to you, need a proxy alignment. This way the body control module knows how far to move something or not. Basically matching the part to the car. Maybe it’s worth researching it. Also, we just bought a Miata for my daughter. I’m excited to own a Mazda again. It’s been a while since my RX7 and it sure brings back memories . Check those videos out. I’m editing one today.
That's great. We didn't have the part because my sister-in-law just drove in that morning saying it didn't work. Local shops didn't have it in stock so we did the best of it. $35 is not bad at all :) I'm glad it helped!
He Danny, cool!
I imagine the rear motor could have been left unplugged to prevent accidental opening (unless that angers the computer for the auto up/down). This video was extra helpful though as I just bought my RF motor for $33 and plan on changing it today
Thank you. I don’t think it would have triggered any codes, especially on such an old car. The motor still worked once in a while but not reliable. It was a last ditch effort, we actually got a replacement eventually.
@@Turbo_Snail No codes, but the system forces you to reset the auto window control each time one is disconnected or damaged (depending on model, like my 08 mazda 6 only made me reset the one window whereas my friends 06 version made him reset every window)
Is the mazda 6 2010 the same way? Ik alot of the parts are interchangeable i have a uncle that justvhad his driver window go down and now wont budge hes just wanting it up for rn..could i take the right rear and swap with front left like u did on the mazda 3?
@@Turbo_Snail k thnx for the video im hoping it Will Work so he can atleast get the front back going again..Ebay as far as motor replacement goes says that the driver side was identical for the mazda 3,5,6s and the cx-5 and cx-7 suvs so it should be a perfect match...urs was the only video weve seen that lets u use the rear motors on the front its just opposite sides from front to rear..thanks again tho for the video that itself was a big help
To be honest, just get a new motor. They weren’t expensive. You get an old one on eBay it may work 1 month or 1 year. You spend a couple bucks more for a new one and you won’t have to think about it anymore. The only reason I did this, they didn’t have one in stock. I always buy from advanced auto parts online. I always score at least a 20% coupon.
That’s true. But I think it’s easier just to replace the whole unit. Not sure how hard it is to find just the gear. If you have a link to a part I’d be happy to post it in the description.
