I know I am a bit late to the club, but thanks for the heads up! As my dad's laptop is breaking apart, I dusted off my own old E5520 I had laying around, added a second 4 GB RAM stick into it (already had a 128GB SSD, which was big when it was built in). He really doesnt need a 1000 € gaming laptop, so its still totally fine for him. I also replaced the CMOS battery. If anybody is interested, you can buy used batteries online for cheap or refurbished ones for really expensive money. In the end its just a normal 2032 button cell, the same as you put onto any other mainboard. Just cut away the shrink wrap, remove the contacts from the battery with a sharp razor and then tape them down on a new cell with some Gaffer tape. Works like a charm!
@@xxXm0RpH3usXxx I just bought a e5520 with windows 11 on it. 750gb hd with 8gb ram and office 2021 inc for $75.00. I mean it has same components a new one today has that costs $750.00. Even has a dvd burner that I still use to burn for friends. I’m gonna upgrade the memory from 8 to 16. Won’t need another laptop for a decade hopefully :D
Glad to hear it! I've fitted a Vertex 3 Solidstate drive to my wife;s and it boots up in under 10 seconds, I would definately recommend solid state drives.
i have a Dell Latitude E5420. My computer wont show the second drive in My Computer. It is detected in the BIOS and shown as incompatible in Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
by the looks of things can you put a M SATA SSD right? also can you upgrade the RAM to 16GB 1600Mhz or 1866? and is the CPU upgrade-able to the i7 3520m processor?
Do you know what the card slot between the RAM and the Wireless card is for ? Looks like another wireless card slot to me.Got the back off mine and just notices it sitting there empty. The bay to the left of the wireless card is for a WWAN card from what I can find out. Is this correct ?
Great tutorial! I replaced the 2X2gb with 2X4gb - computer booted up fine but when I go to my comp>properties I see 8Gb(3.16 Gb usable) - hmmm - suggestions? thanks :-)
Ariel Kahana Hi thanks for the feedback, the reason for that is you are running a 32 bit operating system, you'll need ti upgrade windows to 64bit version to utilise the memory
