Replacing rotted wood on my round gable attic vent 

Now this task was something I really didn't want to do because I didn't know if I was going to break it. I wanted to give it a shot, so I did. I noticed that some of the wood was rotted so I was wondering could I just make those two pieces and replace it before trying to buy a new gable vent? my first attempt I forgot to round over the edges (bevel it), the edges were too sharp. The next day I took my sander up there and just used the sander to smooth everything out and give it rounded edges. It turned out to look okay, I will accept it. If it gets worse I think I'll just replace it with a new one. Do you think it will last?
