The truck had code p0418 (air system control A circuit ) some people might have to replace the solenoid as well. p2440 and p2441 might show up as well.
@@cmbiggo mine ended up being the wiring harness for the knock sensors. Mice chewed it. $40 harness from the dealer. You just pull the intake manifold off and it’s under there. Two wires chewed. It fixed it perfectly. Maybe an hour of work.
I'm looking at buying one of these. 08-09 Tundra. I've read this is a common issue. Despite this is your friend still happy with his truck or are they riddled with problems?
I have a 2012 tundra 4.6L at 130k miles. I had codes p2442, p2447. I ordered parts from Amazon and after watching this video had it done in 2.5 hours with no experience. Thanks for making this video, It helped a lot.
I found this video helpful and would like to offer some anecdotes. The Tundra was giving the P2445 code, indicating a Bank 1 Air Injection Reaction Pump failure. This is one of two pumps located between the front right wheel well and engine compartment. The compartment holding the two pumps is on top of and in front of the front right (passenger side) wheel and tire. You will have to remove the protective covering between the wheel well and engine compartment with wire cutters or snips or a fastener remover. There was one unique plastic (rubber) fastenter, that required me to use a drill bit to remove it, since it wouldn't unscrew or release. I just put a drill bit in my drill and drilled through the middle of the fastener, and pulled out the whole thing. This video provides most of the other info so you can dismount the pumps and replace one or the other or both. The location of bank (pump) A and B, since there are two of them can be confusing. The pump located toward the center of the vehicle is bank (pump) A and the one located toward the outside is bank (pump) B.
There’s a individual/company that manufactures and sells a by-pass kit consisting of a module and wiring to deactivate the air pumps (Tundra Hewitt I believe ?) This allows the ECU to register the air pumps as working, but allows vehicles to legally pass emissions. What destroys these air pumps is moisture being captured at the bottom cup of the motor and then it seizes up and sets off a code tripping the “money light” on the dash. Some Tundra owners choosing to install new air pumps change to the revamped snorkel from Toyota and then drill 1/8 hole at the bottom of the cup to drain any water that might enter the motor housing.
Mine went out in my 2010 tundra with over 130k on the engine and Toyota fixed it for free. They also installed the newer snorkels that curve 180 degrees. I was shocked because the warranty had been long expired. They told me it was a known issue and a engineering problem with the old style snorkels. Snow pack would build up in the wheel well area and melt. With the old snorkel like your truck has, the snow would melt and get into the pumps and ruin them. The new design is supposed to eliminate that issue. Thanks for the video.
Mine is 2010 4.6 L with 76k miles on it. Called Toyota usa to complain as a 2nd owner since 2017, and they told me its not a recall. It was service notice which was mailed out once only to original owner in 2012, and expired in May 2020! and there is nothing we can do..would you please let me know when exactly you took it and had it fixed and what dealership fixed it, I live in rock hill, SC. I have code p2440. 2 mechanics told me only dealer can fix it.
Per another video, you might have to also replace the solenoids at the back of the engine after taking off the manifold. Alternatively you could install the 3rd party bypass kit.
Hi there, your video is 2 years old how those Amazon pump have hold up so far. I need to do the same thing but on auto-zone i188 plus tax just for one.
Good video. Looking at a 2007 myself and am tracking down some of the major problems and fixes. Two questions 1. What impact wrench is that and 2. If there are no code lights on would it be beneficial to drill a small drain hole in the existing canisters to drain anything that might be in there? I liked and subbed for ya......
Have you had any problems with the installation now that you’ve been driving it for a while? I had a mechanic at an actual shop work on it and replace the pump for me and now I’m having an issue again. Are the after market parts working for you?
Mine came on literally an hour after I scheduled my inspection. Found out this morning it came up P0418 and P1605 Is it 100% these pumps or is another issue possible? They cleared it and said drive 60miles, see if it comes back. I made it 200yards lol. It's running fine though, seems full power just the stupid light is on.
Will it matter if by accident I plugged pump on the wrong plugs like pump 1 on pump 2 and pump 2 on plug of the pump 1? Installed the pumps as the code said pumps and I did the valves last year
Alright man, BESIDES THE NOISE of the failed pump, did you have any other problems that occured along with it while driving? I ask because mine is failing (or failed) and I keep getting a Christmas tree of lights in the dash with a 80% reduction in horsepower as well as torque. Top end speed maxes about 40mph with pedal to the metal
your thinking of the secondary switching valves that are under/behind the intake manifold. theyre up against the firewall this video shows the secondary air pumps they look very similar as well
Just watched your video, about to change mine. I'm seeing A LOT of complaints about the parts from Amazon crapping out and was wondering if yours still work? Thanks
I know this is an old comment but I am about to buy a used 2012 Tundra with 5.7 and 120k miles. I keep seeing this being an issue. I wonder if there's anything I can do to stop it from happening
Injects air into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter heat up to minimize emissions, more so during start ups when engines are running rich. Many other manufacturers use them for their vehicles and some even use a mechanical pump that’s belt driven to do the same as these electrical driven air pumps
I've got a 2010 Sequoia 5.7 and with a code P2433, "pressure sensor circuit high". I've been searching high and low and cannot find the part number or where it is located to replace. Anyone have any idea, thanks.
@@kcook8119 Thanks. I have updated engine software that turned off secondary air system and catalyzer sensors. As option the power should be increased up to 400 hp.
You can't run up Rpms past 1500 or mph past 40 unless your going downhill. Like constant limp mode, or downhill low idle the entire time. What a headache..
So weird my 2013 has p0418 so i ordered a 2 pack of pumps, got everything torn apart to find out mine has a 4 prong plug not 2, and i cannot find any pumps anywhere in 4 prong other than from toyota and they want 500 a piece. And every tundra video ive seen has a 2 prong plug
I'm sure the truck went into limp mode when the code came up. This happened to me last night with daughter driving and the truck did some funny shifting going up a short hill because of the computer-induced reduced power. I noticed the check engine light this morning when the truck hesitated going up another hill. Code P2445: "Secondary Air Injection System Pump Stuck Off Bank1" (thanks, Autozone!). 2010 CrewMAX 5.7L V8. I'm buying the clips and pumps recommended here and will give it a try this weekend.
@@billyschwander1484 we tested both pumps and only one was working, sorry I do but recall which one. We figured they both had the same age and use on then and decided to replace both. After doing some competitive shopping we were able to negotiate a little better price at Advanced Auto. The repair fixed the problem and it's not going into limp mode anymore.
something is defective or not connected...do the pumps pump air? you should hear them running ...on the tundra forums there is another way to do away with the system altogether... its a complete bypass... tundras.com.
@@AndreiDoroftei the thing is it shoots me with 12 codes im thinking some thing is wrong with the sensors cause when i delete codes the truck runs perfect
@@adamjackson3695 pressure valve is something that fails ... to me it seems like it originates with the snorkels that are installed on the older trucks..the newer ones look different and do not allow moisture to enter
@@adamjackson3695 i replaced the two pumps in fender well(passenger side) And replaced the solenoid behind the intake against the firewall. Had zero issues until recently. Lights are flashing as before the fix and now flagging code p2432 ! 2008 5.7l tundra crewmax limited 4wd. Please help. Currently not in limp mode...!
bah! this is a common problem for these...easy to replace ... my buddy just bought a brand new RAM TRX and he barely made it home form the dealership... the engine broke a valve or a valve spring... would not start.
